United Workers Party (UWP) hopeful for the Paix Bouche constituency, Eunica Victor, has revealed that her team plans to place music and arts high on the agenda for schools in Dominica.
Speaking at a UWP “Youth in it Too” rally on Sunday Victor said that the party will ensure that musica and arts become part of the curriculum in primary and secondary schools in Dominica.
“We must not underestimate the benefits of music in our society,” she said. “If there were proper marketing techniques and the right contacts were made these young people would be going places. Team Dominica is committed and we have the capacity to ensure that the right connections are made in the music industry and opportunities are created for young artists.”
According to her education is key, and UWP will revisit the secondary school programs to ensure that every secondary school caters to the needs of students with different capabilities and different skill sets.
She added that teachers also deserve remuneration.
“We must give teachers proper remuneration which will encourage them to see teaching as a profession and not just as a place that you can stay until better comes,” she noted.
In the meantime, UWP candidate for the Roseau Central constituency, Joseph Issac, told that youth at the rally that the UWP is committed to helping them start their own businesses and create opportunities in the music industry.
“We will create opportunities in the music industry we will create opportunities in sports, we will create opportunities in ITC, in agriculture and other major pillars that our leader Hon Lennox Linton has articulated many, many, many times,” he said.
Linton’s recent outburst and accusations against Ministers has really put me off. He should have gathered his evidence and follow the correct procedure. He should have known better. These allegations are serious! This sweetener is not enough. There’s still a bitter taste!!
Ma Doris/Laplaine…..what has now become of DAT….the president is only seeing REd,,,,,Are teachers better off? Our tears and the tears of our children are upoon all backs….this suffering cannot continue forever…..God is Not asleep.. he WILL and MUST STOP all u
PAPA God….
Giesel that looking like that in the background there. Hmph..
Great speech Eunica…I am so proud of you!
I like that, i really like that…
Everybody talked why Hector did not given a chance to talk, just asking.
is not everybody that talked…. did you hear from all of the team members? no! It was a youth rally, so the younger members spoke as well as constituents – I expect the youth rally would still be going on now if every one of the parlreps were asked to speak!
Take one guess.
music is already in most, if not all secondary schools…..but like any other subject, you need persons to teach these things, and not many are available for the amount that teachers get paid
So who is suppose to pay the teachers to teach it? And if it is on the paper and not being taught is it really in the curriculum?? Or just on paper like Woodwork and Home economics etc…etc…
Then how is it reflected at the state college?? Is it in that curriculum too??
Come on people…why don’t we stop being HYPOS and fooling ourselves first in an attempt to fool or mislead others….Cuz it is the youths who suffer from all this
Sometimes I’m forced to asked, is it the same UWP government who refused to recognized teachers during their infamous reign during 1995-2000. They refused the tea hers to act as their own bargaining agent during that period.
Thanks God for the Dominica Labour Party and Prime Minister Roosie Douglas who on taking office immediately recognized the Dominica Association of Teacher (DAT) as the bargaining agent for teachers.
Why now and not 1995-2000 you are prepared to get teacher better renumeration for teachers. Sad but too late.
Ask my son Ron Green what was his relation with teachers in the southers east during that period and the treatment to the teachers in his very own constituency-Delices.
Why dear we in 2015, you talking about 1995. I sorry for all u. So that’s ur best Defense.
Ma Doris we are in 2015, you talking about 1995? Come on That is your best defense. So if u go school without shoes, guess u will send ur child school without shoes too. Change in all department is coming
If you want to stay stock in the past be my guest, the train is moving fast and will not be derailed by lame reasonings about was it that person or this person who did this or did not do that 100 years ago.
For years now you people have been asking the opposition to be a true opposition and give alternative governance and now they are doing just that you coming with your nonsense about yesteryear.
I know you cannot understand the concept but, CHANGE IS A MUST!!!!!!
Apart from music and art in schools a good gym facility in your constituency would be an asset because Health is wealth.
so she really isnt intouch with the school. Music and Arts is already on the curriculum and is being taught at every school my dear. smh
Yes they teaching piano and guitar in calibishie.
Yes because they teaching piano and guitar in calibishie.
Just like agriculture is still being done, but is on what level?
Train and give guys like Dice and all the other musicians and artists we have in DA without jobs a job and that will take care of the ON the curriculum but no teaching of it at the schools.
Choir – we cannot all sing
Recorder – everyone who is interested in music may not be interested in the recorder.
Other options ? – nil
There is definitely the need to expand this area of subject offering at schools. It’s a fact held by educational psychologists that some students display greater tendencies for the arts than pure academics. Denying them the opportunity may stifle their potential. Great thinking.
