UWP blames plight of workers on government

Green

The United Workers Party (UWP) has made known its solidarity with workers they feel have been marginalized in recent months, including public workers, truckers and farmers and laid the blame at the feet of the Roosevelt Skerritt administration.

Political leader of the UWP, Ronald Green made the statement during a press conference earlier this afternoon, as the party sought to address some of the current political issues that it sees as critical to the nation.

Green stated, “I’d like to express our solidarity with public workers, who are struggling right now, to get paid for work done. I was, just this morning, talking with one of them who said that on Friday they waited till 4 o’clock, expecting to get paid, and up to now, they haven’t been paid for a significant amount of work done.”

He continued, “Solidarity also with our truckers, who themselves have been edged out and moved aside, with opportunities to make a dollar to keep their families going and with our farmers who are presently organizing.”

Green placed the blame for the tough times being experienced generally by these groups squarely on the shoulders of government as he added, “All of these workers are now in struggle for a better life, facing serious hardships and suffering at the hand of the Skerritt-led Dominica Labour Party.”

Do u have any family member or friend employed @ PWC? Do u care at all whether people should get paid justly after working their a%% off?? if Mr, Green had to get paid only for going to a parliament sitting how rich would that make him??? How about the Government parliamentarians? Arethey being enriched everytime they attend a sitting of the house? is there some fortune to be made there? Is it your position that a parlkimentary representative only shows represantation in Parliament ONLY? how many sittings of the house gone for the year so far? How much $$$$$$$$ UWP collect so far for not being there? U all really think evryone out there went to school sitting behind the blackboard? When YOU WORK YOU WANT YOUR PAY ON TIME WHY DE HELL PUBLIC WORKS EMPLOYEES CANNOT GET PAID LIKE YOU THINK YOU ALONE OR LABOR PARTY AND GOVERNMENT BOOM BOOM FLY DESERVE?

Great point! Ron and dem getting paid for NOT WORKING, and the workers not getting paid for working. Maybe if the UWP would try to work with the Government and People of Dominica towards progress things could improve faster.

But all the UWP have to offer is to chant negative vibes and run down we country! It is time for them to STOP!

Is the issue Ron Green or the plight of the little man in Dominica? That is is the simple or 64 million dollar question folks.

Is the real issue of betrayal by the government of the day or an individual who is pointing outt the problem?

Our country is buring and that is the real issue- not Ron Green. History is on his side.

I am a DLP supporter, they have raised mucho funds for DA that UWP cannot perform in kind. But I agree with Ron on this issue. The small man, the worker, haven’t been part of the distribution of all these funds. It’s a shame, they have to rethink ways to make these millions reach the “I Am Dominica” people in a tangible way.

Otherwise all these great fund raising efforts will amount to a failure. Now Ron, attend Parliament and do some work there please, we need that.

    • July 26, 2011

I agree with you it is about the people not party or politicans wh have to reach out to our men and women young and old to help to get the place back on track they need jobs and no one seem to care, who is benefiting from all the funds the GOVT claim they raise how it is not reaching the manon the street so they can work and ger paid so they can go out to purchase food for their families something is wrong.
I do believe the opposition would like to be in the paliament but respect have to be an broad wide matter they cannot be shoot down every time they stand to ask question thay have to be forced to sit down we need fair access for all and we need them to be the same for the opperation.

This issue is not just Ron’s. Every parliamnetarian should be just as concerned as Mr. Green of EVEN YOU A DLP SUPPORTER. This issue is not for MR. GREEN ALONE TO DEAL WITH IN PARLIAMENT. Since you support what he is saying even as a DLP supporter will you be so inclined as to suggest to your PATY PEOPLE IN GOVERNMENT TO DO THE WORK THAT YOU WANT THEM TO DO? Tell Tony or Mr. Aaron to push the idea nuh? You speaking from a personal stand point and i appreciate that. I really do. You can stand on your own feet and think for yourself. But you will not encourage the people you support to support you in what you think is RIGHT AND JUST.

  6. July 26, 2011

Mr.Green I would like to see a debate face to face you and the DLP Ministers in parliament.Too address the issues affecting the Dominican people,I guess if you are positive with the issues ,you would have challenge the DLP in Parliament

      July 27, 2011

you forgot the prime minister came on radio and said he would debate but never live up to the challenge, he played the hiding game.
they cant standup to the tought questions which will be put towards them, and that happens when they lie so much they cannot keep tract of what they said in the past…

my view, there is no member of the government(ministers) who can or will debate anyone on any issue of governance.. st martin school children will tear them apart.

Mr Green. How would you know about the plight of working people when you sit outisde of parliament and get paid. Exactly what is the UWP bringing to the table to correct these issues if things were to be changed. I sincerely ask you to rethink the party’s position on parliament and to ‘light a candle’ rather than ‘curse the darkness’ The people of Dominica need EFFECTIVE representation and I ask you now: what can you deliver to us?

Tell your folks to go to parliament and represent me..stop talking on the wayside. Go to parliament if you really want to make a difference. I am 34 years of age and have never voted so i’m not for any party. I just want you all to stop playing political games with the future of the people of DA

    • Piper
      July 26, 2011

Start voting so you can get the representation that you think is best for you and your country. Stop sitting back and allowing other people to think for you.

You should be ashamed of yourself for not having voted, given your age.

        July 26, 2011

Sir or Ms. or which ever you choose to be called. There is no shame in not voting. It is also my constitutional right to choose not to vote so get that part clear. Also, unlike persons who believe in voting for images and friends, I listen to policies and ideas and would choose to vote accordingly. I promise you sir/Ms that as soon as I hear ideas that make sense coming from whichever side then that representative will have my vote. Until then, I will sit on the side listening to the seatings of the House and listening elsewhere for informed discussion and contribution that make sense. Thank you very much for acknowledging my previous comment. I hope this clears it up for you.

I have come to accept the painful realities in the game of politics. One lesson learned is that opposition will oppose for opposing sake with the ultimate intension of scoring political points. However UWP, DLP or DFP supporters alike cannot honestly sit by and overlook the plight of the truckers, PW workers, farmers and tradesmen. We are facing serious economic challenges and it is fair to state that our government has not and did not meet the challenges.
The current administration assured us that their focus would be on tourism and that agriculture would be secondary. So far agriculture is in precipitous decline and tourism is in shambles. I am trying to identify some form of sustainable economic development that I can attribute to the DLP and in all sincerity it is a difficult task. My heart hurt for Dominica knowing that the underdevelopment and the almost no progress that we endure is simply because of ineffective and corrupt administrators. The problem is clear to see and yet the people refuse to take the necessary action. I pray that the people really use the power to demand accountability from those whom we select as government representatives.
