UWP expresses satisfaction with road campaign

Linton shares a joke with a resident of Wet Area as the UWP continues its “Coast to Coast in 25”

Leader of the United Workers Party, Lennox Linton, is expressing satisfaction with an ongoing campaign which is taking place across Dominica, noting that it is going “extremely well.”

“We are getting the opportunity to see what is happening in Dominica, see for ourselves the neglected farms, the neglected holdings, the infrastructure that is in disrepair ,” he told Q95 on Tuesday morning. “Which gives us a sense of what priorities will emerge as we take on the task of better managing the economy of Dominica and put it in shape to grow by six to seven percent per year and deliver 5,000 jobs in the first three years of our administration.”

The campaign, dubbed Coast to Coast in 25, was launched last week and Linton vowed it will “touch every nook and cranny, every heart, every mind across the Commonwealth of Dominica.”

Although elections are not constitutionally due until 2015, the UWP leader noted the campaign is not too early and is part of the party ‘getting in shape.’

“We have to get in shape for the governance responsibilities that we are taking on to ourselves,” he stated. “We are saying to the people of Dominica this is serious business, the country is in crisis, the country needs to be rescued. We are stepping up to the plate to pick up the mantle of rescue, of renewal of rebuilding Dominica.”

He stated that it is also part of connecting to Dominica. “We are going about our business of connecting with the people of Dominica,” Linton said. “I don’t know that it can be too early to do that …so if we sit back with our hands folded and wait for somebody to tell us when we can connect with the people of Dominica, I think that would be not wise.”

He remarked that the party is moving forward because it has plans for Dominica. “We have a vision for making Dominica the best place to live, the best place to work, the best place to enjoy life in the global community,” Linton stated, “So we have to go around Dominica and in a positive way, in a real way, meeting people, looking them in the eyeball and connecting to them face to face, say to them this is what we intend to do for you, this is how we intend to rethink, to renew and to rebuild Dominica.”

He noted that the party will also be in constituencies that are considered ‘die hard Labor Party strongholds’ and “respectfully  and in a very humane way engage with the people on our agenda of advocacy for the change of Dominica.”

Some of the constituencies visited so far include Grand Fond, Castle Bruce, St. Joseph, Colihaut, among others.

I HAVE BEEN RADING SOME OF THE COMMENTS POSTED AND I REALIZE THAT MANY CITIZENS OF THIS COUNTRY DO NOT ANALYSE ANYTHING BEFORE THEY POST COMMENTS. Some people reason that we are the government because we the people we pay taxes I for one am in full agreement with that reasoning that We the people are the government. But I want to go farther to say that We the people we are the opposition too. You see my fellow Dominicans WE the people enjoy a special and very important position of Government and Opposition at the same time. What we should be in essence doing is use the opposition to supervise the activities of government instead we ostracize the opposition when the opposition is actually us.

How much more broken can it get? Do u want to see people eating mud cakes or children suffering the severe malnutrition before you will accept that it is indeed broken. All the sign are there but I guess you’ll not see since you’re only concerned with self. It doesn’t matter what the decision is, how simple it is, this government has to find a way to do something illegal. If that is not a sign of a broken country then I don’t know what is.

I keep hearing that elections are not constitutionally due until 2015 … wasn’t the last election December 18, 2009? Then, if its every five years, should be have elections by December 18, 2014? Just asking

    • Dixi Normas
      November 14, 2013

elections must be called 5 years after the first sitting of parliament not the the last election date. The sitting prime minister can call it anytime before said date.

      • Anonymous
        November 15, 2013

You still got it wrong. Elections are constitutionally due NO LATER THAN 90 DAYS AFTER the first sitting of Parliament after elections. The first sitting was in mid February 2010 so Elections must be held no later than mid May 2015.

How stupid are you; how much dumber can a person get, are you drunken or mad, perhaps your badge honor on your forehead is too heavy for you; you know that badge of stupidity which the late prime minister Pierre Charles spoke abut.

If there are no jobs in the big world, why are Dominicans leaving Dominica every day of the week venturing out into every corner of the big world crawling on their belly looking for work!

How many of them who leave returns to Dominica in a hurry? Do you know why they do not return; if you cant figure it out let me tell you it is because they are finding world, jobs in the big world out there.

How much have they aid you to write such garbage, are you so politically brainwasher that you have began to walk upside down on your commonsense which you appear not to have!

I hate to insult myself by responding to such garbage, but I do it simply to expose you personal stupidity to you.

You are completely ignorant about the economic performance of Dominica over the years, and that is a fact. It was under the UWP Dominica saw records in exports in the years 98 and 99. It was the UWP which created the offshore financial sector bringing in over 25 million per year in new taxes. The world creole music festival, increase revenue in non banana crops from 14 million to over 29 million per year. Free text books, duty free concessions on building material for all Dominicans. When the DLP saw that they could not challenge the performance of the UWP. You were fooled when they told you that performance does not matter it is corruption. Up till now DLP cannot show Dominicans one piece of evidence of UWP corruption. They have even made Julius Timothy a minister, a man they accused of being corrupt. It is the DLP which paid their friends over one million dollars to dig up the 12 million dollars work that was done by the UWP at Windsor park. DLP dug up the foundation and threw it into the sea. The steel UWP ordered to build the Windsor park stadium is still on the port behind the office of Element Agencies. Dr. Aaron says that UWP believes in truth and DLP practices lies. Your statement is baseless.

“Federal Open Market Committee(FOMC), followed by the announcement from Mr. Bernanke (Chairman of the Federal Reserve)”

Anonymous, what does Dominica’s bad economic status have to do with Bernanke; Federal open market, and Federal Reserve? It is a good thing you are an anonymous; you are fictitious; using your name would simply make you a joke, and a laughing stock!

When we are talking about Bernanke, we are talking about the chairman of some Federal Reserve Bank within the United States, one of twelve reserve banks set up under the Federal Reserve Act to hold reserves, and discount commercial paper for affiliated banks in their respective districts.

I cannot even begin to imagine the reason for your comments, people should not write crap simply because they deduced the crap, it must make sense to others, life is a learning process, and we should all make contributions to the learning process, the crap you wrote here was pulled from thin air, with no actual basis.

What sort of impression are you trying to create? Here is a brief : another important fiscal agency; although for technical reasons it is called an agency of monetary policy, it is the Federal Reserve System, headed by the Federal Reserve Board. The Federal Reserve System “the fed” has authority over the credit rates and lending activities of the nation’s most important banks. (In America that is)!

Established by the United States Congress in 1913, the FED is responsible for adjusting the supply of money to the needs of banks in the different regions, and of the commerce, and industry in each. The fed helps shift money from where there is too much to where it is needed.

Unfortunately, Dominica is not a territory of the United States, thus money is not shift by the FED to Dominica, never have and never will! The Fed also ensures that the banks do not overextend themselves by too liberal a lending policy, out of fear hat if there is a sudden economic scare, a run on a few banks might be contagious and cause another terrible crash like the one in 1929.

Many of us residing in America remember 2008, 2009, it was similar to what occurred in 1929; of course I was not born yet, nonetheless, the major part of my education was not obtained in Dominica, but the United States, and one of my prerequisites for my major had to be American Government, from which I derived the information in this submission.

Do not try to impress people with nonsense, as I said before DNO is read internationally, and some people reading such nonsense as what you wrote may come to the conclusion that all of us Dominicans are idiots.

Don’t talk about something unless you have something to substantiate your comments, your comments has no connection between Dominica, America, and the Federal Reserve.

First of all here is some homework. Research the relationship between the composition of FED and the twelve reserve banks that you refereed to.

Next you seem to be one of those who think that because Dominica is an Island we are not affected by what happens in other territories. My contribution was drawing attention to the relationship of the Dominica economy to that of the US. You missed that because you were too quick to show off your “knowledge”.

It might interest you to not that the thrust of the UWP campaign has been to describe the performance of the Dominican economy as if there was no influence from our trading partners.

Only this morning (October 13)Dr. Thompson Fontaine was on Q95 quoting on the position of D/ca’s GDP without indicating that it was a ranking by size and without further showing the relationship to the size of the population that generated that GDP. That was classic dishonesty.

I encourage you think before you write.

Coast to Coast … not a bad idea at all. However, the PM has been criticized for his so-called celebrity status, and Dominicans have been criticized for thinking of Skerro as ‘a god’. Ummmmm isn’t Lennox Linton is really doing the same thing here … building his so-called celebrity status among a certain demographic in the name of a better Dominica? Just saying!

You should CAMPAIGN EARLY to GAIN MOMENTUM. That is NOT seeking CELEBRITY STATUS. How can anyone, including Roosevelt, rebuild the Island if they visit PARTICULAR AREAS. I think BOTH LENNOX and ROOSEVELT need to EVALUATE the NEEDS of the CITIZENS to IDENTIFY how to make their LIVING CONDITIONS BETTER.

I am NOT in favor of any one party, I am in FAVOR of PROGRESS.

Mistake – UWP has been never stopped Campaigning since they lost the election but their campaign was of a different nature.

The Prime Minister and his Government knows about the plight of the people and the country needs and wants and has been working very hard to make sure our needs are being met, while the others were campaigning.

There is a time to work and there is a time to campaign the DLP knows that – I am not sure of that the UWP does.

Look false hope and that is no joke. All in islands in the ECCU are struggling. I would prefer if you say I cannot promise you a pot of gold but I will try. Why do you set your goals so high in an economy that is basically struggling? This is why I think that you are a fake. Give me facts because countries that are more developed are struggling. What will you do to obtain 5000 jobs in three years? I am so amazed at this submission. Do not give up false hope and when you reach in the financial centre you are going to change your tongue. Let me hear something different please

Your opinion is really silly when you think about it. Why should I vote for a candidate who says, “I will TRY to do this” or “I THINK I can make this happen”? Not when I am already struggling to make things meet on my end. Not while the economy is sinking and I have a family to feed. I don’t want a leader who says he will TRY when things are so bad right now. I want one who is confident enough to know that he WILL bring change. At the end of the day, that person will have my vote.

In life, never say never. Who could imagine, Lennox Linton making the rounds in rural Dominica “shaking hands” with farmers and begging for their vote? Here is a man who sat pretty at Morne Daniel. The plight of the ordinary man meant nothing, absolutely. The line workers at DCP can attest to that. How many of them got a ride to work when he encountered them on their way to work, rain or shine? Today, he is actively canvassing the same people (mothers, cousins, brothers sisters etc. at Belles) to help him get the biggest job in the land. Again, we are to be reminded of the words “never say never never” Our world is much too small and our life’s destiny is not dictated by man or every day events. Finally,as an employee of DCP, I have lived to see Lennox at the doorstep of a poor man begging for assistance to achieve his life’s dream. An aspiration that would place him even in a bigger position to look down on the poor man.

    • November 12, 2013

@Child of Mahaut, would you rather STAY DOWN LOOKING UP? Is it not what people do when they are NOT SATISFIED? When what we have is OUTDATED should we not make a CHANGE to see what that CHANGE will bring? The OPTIONS for CHANGE are always AVAILABLE. If you LIKE what you have KEEP IT, if you DO NOT LIKE what you have, you GET RID of it. AND THE CYCLE GOES ON.

      • Anonymous
        November 13, 2013

you only get rid of what you have if there is something better. Change is good but I will stay with what I have until I see something better. the UWP camp is not better; they get pay for the job that they are not doing, that is dishonesty. I can say a lot more but I will stop here.

You like the word “option”. Well take this. Like many Dominicans, I have absolutely no “option” to choose from. Lennox is not being himself. He has no natural affinity to liking ordinary people. The man is putting on a show and using cliches after cliches to sound an empty, non-attainable message of whathe refer to as “hope”. Untill he answers truthfully the questions about his association with SCL and his political admirer’s association with the St.Kitts Economic Citizenship program, which Thompson Fontaine says is cashing in bilions of dollars for St.Kitts, then all his years of promoting good governance, transparency by public officials, truth to power, righteousness and justice etc. will be just whatit is for now – talk, and more talk. I have no option, You seem to have, but for me and the majorityof Dominicans, smooth talk is just another tool of the other worls that ought not to be trusted. Stay cool with your option.

Only Marigot he may get and that is uncertain. I think Mr. James better stay if thy want Marigot.

I think Linton has to be in Opposition for 10 years to learn the ropes. Two more terms in opposition and by that time they can build the party and let us see them be a successful opposition before they can be returned as a government.

The UWP forget that they should have been a party in waiting and work with government to help the country instead of how they behave in all those years. They have to learn how to be a successful opposition before we make a big mistake and put them in government. Not Now, Not Yet. No change coming.

        November 12, 2013

What about the employed labourites? I guess they don’t need change?

I want SMART goals….nothing wrong in being realistic….5000 jobs in three years isn’t a realistic goal. I feel like the opposition is making a mockery of the voting public. We all want jobs, and health care and education so plz don’t exploit us for political gain. Say what you mean and mean what you say. Are you promising 5000 jobs or 5000 NEW jobs? There is a difference…..

      • really mr?
        November 13, 2013

reaching for the stars is not realistic either, but we tell our children “reach for the stars and then they’ll at least meet the clouds. ”

low expectations, little r no results, high expectations means results. 5000 is big. and we know to vote him out if he does not achieve it or come reasonably close.

        November 13, 2013

Show me the jobs first before I waste my vote on you. The job must not be only be when elections are called having big signs with people in chains and (?) question marks.

People are working under DLP that is a certain; and more people will get jobs under the DLP that too is proposed and we can more identify with that. Every country has unemployment even the first world countries; so anyone who tells us jobs will fall from the sky without saying if a parachute or helicopter will be used not ready yet.

So we want to see the jobs, we want to know where the money will come to pay the people and who will provide the employment.

Simple questions which need to be answered first.

    • Asterix
      November 12, 2013

@Anonymous you have opened your mouth and you have actually said nothing. You claimed they have no ideas then in the same sentence you say the ideas are recycled. If they have no ideas why then do you say maybe 2020 for them? If labor has all the ideas why not stay with them forever? Did you follow the job forum? What is wrong with the brilliant idea of meeting the people on the ground who are most affected by the sorry state of our economy, due to its current miss-management? The fact is you guys are so desperate in trying to shamelessly keep faith in a failing government (that is also losing support and popularity) that you search for negative things (even when there are none) to say about positive initiatives that are working for the other side. You cannot make yourself look smart by calling someone else a fool. If you are a fool you are just that a fool. If you are failing you are failing and you cannot call someone else’s success a failure to make you look like you are successful either.

      • November 12, 2013

FIDEL CASTRO has been in office forever. Yes he is sick, and placed his brother at the helm. CUBANS at HOME and ABROAD CANNOT do what they would like to do because they LIVE IN FEAR. Do YOU want that type of CONTROL in Dominica? If Roosevelt has done good and continues to do good, then he should be considered for another term, but to have HIM or ANYONE ELSE in OFFICE FOREVER is OUT OF THE QUESTION. I DO NOT WANT TO BE CONTROLLED BY ANY ONE. I would like to live my life they way that I see fit. That is why there is a word called “TERM.”

Presidents, Prime Ministers, Governors and ALL should be in office per TERM. When that TERM is over and done, you SEEK ANOTHER LEADER. There is no BIG or SMALL Country.

Good job. Every vote counts. Take nothing for granted. Lets take that momentum all the way – no slacking up. The Labor party ministers are already job hunting. China is hiring.

You sure you know what good governance means. And please don’t get me started on positive change. We have a lot of unanswered questions we would like to hear you all answer. are you all willing to answer the questions in the name of transparency?

and to add to that I would like to give kudos to the DLP government for having the courage to take on such a mammoth task. Uwp would not even dream of it when they were in power but they talking about international airport. Please people, you cannot put the cart before the horse. We have to put the proper infrastructure in place before we proceed with building an international airport. The DLP is right on track.
