As Dominica prepares to give its first Chief Minister a state funeral, his outstanding contribution to public life in the country continues to be highlighted.
Leader of the United Workers Party (UWP), Lennox Linton, has described the service of the late Franklin Baron, who passed away on April 9, 2016, as “outstanding in the public’s sphere.”
“We remember him for his piecing social commentary in later years and his wonderful service to Dominica,” Linton stated.
Linton, who was speaking at a UWP press conference last week, extended condolences to Baron’s family .
“I want to extend condolences on behalf of the United Workers Party (UWP) to the family of Dominica’s first Chief Minister, Frank Baron who passed recently,” he said.
Baron was born at Portsmouth on 19 January 1923. He was educated at the Portsmouth Government School, The Dominica Grammar School and St. Mary’s Academy.
He served in many capacities during his career both in the political and business sectors.
Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit has said that a state funeral will be accorded to the late Baron.
How men and institutions change. Mr. Frank Baron was perhaps the best known personality of the Dominica Freedom Party after Eugenia Charles. The UWP rained fire and brimstone on everything and anyone who dare stand in support of the DFP back then. Frank would have received his fair share of their vitriol. Today he is a man of honor. Contrast their response now to when the former President Liverpool exited this world. They said nothing. Did not even attend his funeral or any public actitivity to hinor his passing. UWP’s divisive politics is just something else. But Frank deserves full accolades to honor his passing. He served Dominica well in so many spheres of life. RIP Sir!
UWP sleeping, Francis done that longtime. ha ha ha
