UWP will not be hindered despite PM’s “calculated attempts”

Ron Green

When Parliament convenes tomorrow the seats of the United Workers Party’s (UWP) parliamentarians could be occupied.

UWP Leader Ronald Green said on Monday that his members will attend the next sitting of the House of Assembly, following their victory at July 9th’s by-elections in the Marigot and Salisbury constituencies.

According to Green, the Opposition will make whatever contribution it can to the 2010/2011 national budget debate.

“I don’t know if it is a calculated attempt by the prime minister to call elections on the 9th and parliament on the 12th. He has done so many calculated things that are devious and the proximity of the two dates are making it obvious that there is something behind that,” Green noted.

He said considering the short time space, the two recently-elected members namely Edison James and Hector John would not have received notice but ‘we will see … we intend to participate and put forward the issues that are critical to the country’, he stated.

Meantime, Green said there are also a number of issues regarding the recent IMF report and a major cash donation made to Government by the European Union that need to be addressed.

  5. @Anti-hate:

If you ask me since John McCain, I’ve never seen a politician face angrier than Ron Green!

I mean during the last Presidential election here, just before, the total economy of the United States almost crumble, while Obama kept a cool head, McCain was running around Washington DC (District Of Columbia) with an angry swollen face, as if that angered face would have won him the presidency, and stop what transpired next.

Fifty years from now Ron face will still look the same, consumed in his anger, as for his manifesto; there were only three promise made to the people and they are as follows:

    1. I will build an International Airport eighteen (18) months after the UWP win the election

    2. I will give all civil servants an increase in salary

    3. I will give a stimulus to the Farmers

I guess he will now use the promised stimulus for his personal benefit.

Hahahahahahahahaha, ooooooooooooooooops; I doh can laugh eh!!

Perhaps John McCain is his cousin or something, and so, McCain’s anger rubbed off on him.

Well! well! well! It will not stop. Some people care less about moving the country forward. They pretend that their governmnet is in power but yet pay more attention to the plight of UWP.

But what is these people problem?

A legitimate government was elected by the majority of people of Dominica to run the affairs of State and these members of the UWP and the so-called movement to restore democracy organisation attempted to see how naive PM Skerrit was to set aside the elections and call fresh elections so that they – UWP and MRD could get themselves a bigger portion of parliamentary seats than three!!!

Up to now these people cannot accept that they have lost popularity with the Dominican electorate. It is not a matter of the Red Clinic – cause if the UWP was still popular persons would have gone to the Red Clinic and still not voted the DLP and Skerrit. Persons would have gone so far to have accepted plane tickets and still not vote DLP and Skerrit if that ever happened at all.

The UWP must be honest with themselves as a party as ask the billion dollar question: What is it the UWP can claim ownership for that would have the majority of the electorate of Dominica voting them again? It is clear that the majority of Dominicans is not gong hoe about the UWP! They are not gong hoe about the Real Labor Party! The Dominican electorate is not gong hoe about the wishful thinking of the Diaspora and the Freedom Party either!
The answer to the UWP lack of popularity is not with a “clean” voters list! It is not with voter ID cards! It is not with lack of access to DBS Radio! It is not lack of access to the internet! It is all to do with a lack of trustworthiness by the Dominican electorate and the highhandedness of their first leader of the UWP when he was Prime Minister towards teachers, the police force, the media , the public service in general and the Private Sector in particular as well as boyish perception within the International Community. It appeared that the International Community could get him to do anything – copper mining in the middle of Dominica, Christopher Skates etal!
The UWP could just not fill the shoes of the Dame of the DFP and sadly not even the Dame’s DFP can!!!

The Dominican electorate is concerned about Satan trying to correct SIN and will reject wolfs in sheep clothing. The moral card, the transparency card, the integrity card, the religious card , the days of old and Dame Eugenia card, the good governance card will not get traction with the Dominican electorate simply because the presenters of these cards are themselves tainted including the DLP!!! But the DLP is least tainted and there is evidence of progress and believe it or not evidence of honesty – far higher than the alternatives.

It is sad that the UWP does not believe in their Green philosophy! That has been shelved for over 6 months now but will be dusted off the shelves again this week when the DLP will present its budget. We will all see that as no surprise. We will not see any pieces of legislation favoring a green Dominica by the UWP in this term 2010 to 2015. They will tell you the Speaker too bias!!

where is the manifesto Ron Green?

  16. Anti-hate
    July 12, 2010

OK I know the UWP apologists are gonna dislike my comment and say i’m a know-it-all but i’ll say my piece anyway!!

Ron Green is not PM material. Let’s analyze what he just said. Just like the General Elections he is totally unprepared for the budget debate. You mean Ron Green was SO BUSY trying to defend what are supposed to be stronghold seats he couldn’t get ready for the budget? Isn’t a PM supposed to be able to multi-task?!

It’s been public knowledge for weeks now that the budget was going to be presented on July 13.

It’s obvious to any critical thinker that the UWP is disorganized and disjointed. If they always intended to go to parliament after the by-elections they had enough time to put together a decent contribution.

We officially have no credible opposition in Dominica. An opposition is supposed to be able at any moment to transition into an effective government.

Can anyone honestly say that the UWP is ready?
