Voters go to the poll in Guyana and St. Lucia today

Voters in Guyana and St. Lucia are today lining up at poling stations in their respective countries to elect new governments.

In Guyana, the incumbent People’s Progressive Party/ Civic (PPP/ C) is trying to beat back a strident challenge from the opposition coalition, A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) in its bid to extend its 19 year hold on power.

The coalition includes the main opposition People’s National Congress Reform (PNCR); the Alliance For Change (AFC), The United Force ( TUF) and the East Berbice Development Association, which is only contesting the regional elections in Region Six.

Reading the article regarding St Lucia it says 15,734 people are expected to cast ballots? St Lucia population is way over 150 000. Why so few voters?

Wonder whether this rain that has been affecting us is also affecting St Lucia. If so, that could have effect on voter turn-out during the first few hours of the poll.
