The Government of the Commonwealth of Dominica is pleased to inform the general public that delivery of health care services at the new Marigot Hospital, Phase 1, commenced on Monday, September 11, 2023, from 8am.
Under Phase 1, the services offered include Specialists Clinics and Urgent Care services. These health services will be delivered on a daily basis with specialists’ clinics scheduled from 9am – 3pm in Obstetrics/Gynaecology, General Surgery, Orthopaedics, Cardiology, Ophthalmology, Internal Medicine, Paediatrics/Neonatology, and Neurosurgery.
The Urgent Care services will include services related to conditions such as injury, suspicion of broken bones, chest pains, respiratory illnesses, and or distress. These clinical services will be supported with laboratory, radiology, and pharmacy services. Dental services will also be offered at the facility.
During Phase 1, approximately fifteen (15) new jobs will be created to ensure effective and efficient delivery of services in the areas of medicine, radiology, administration, maintenance, and finance. In the coming months, the hospital management will introduce additional services such as dietary counselling and physiotherapy.
The commencement of services under Phase 1 will create business opportunities for farmers and other suppliers and distributors of goods and services required for the hospital’s operations. The aim is to fully commission the hospital during the current fiscal year when inpatient care, to include intensive care, maternity, and surgery services, will be offered.
The Government of Dominica will continue to implement measures to ensure that all citizens have access to quality health care services, which support the universal Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) of good health and well-being for all.

UWP and it’s supporters always have something negative in the pipe line when comes to anything good taking place or happening in the country. Before their cry was Marigot needs a hospital. THEY got a hospital. THEY start again, when is the hospital going to open and commence operation. The hospital now open and in operation, THEY coming with where is the staff to work at the hospital.? THEY are given qualified staff to run the hospital, THEIR next problem is where are the equipment?! Give THEM equipment , THEIR next talk is the staff at the hospital just their doing nothing. What a BREED of people.

I hope that Phases 2, 3,4 and 5 will soon follow. Anyway, it’s a start. There are going to be teething problems but I hope these would be quickly resolved for the benefit of the people, especially the poor and elderly.
They do have a Dental Dept, so, you can go there and take care of your teething problems before they manifest.lol. By the way, make sure you are dentally insured. The Marigot Hospital can rest assured that you are full of a myriad of problems being a frustrated, sickly patient.
I am wondering where is the staff to provide health care and services in this hospital. A hospital is not just a building, it involves adequate staff and supplies to provide optimum care to the patients and their families (in time of illnesses, family members need support and education to help take care of their sick), maintenance of the environment conducive to healing and we’ll being.
Check in the jungles of Marigot; that is where you will find adequate staff for the Hospital. Always some bullshot nonsense. You could not pass the chemistry and maths tests, why, you could not study medicine.

It never ceases to amaze me how sloppy the timing of these announcements are. A public hospital opens and you are making an announcement AFTER the fact?

That was to be expected. Years ago I said it’s one thing to built ‘state of the art facilities’ but another thing to staff them with good health care professionals. Most of our professionals leave, as they see no future in our corrupt country. The prospect of becoming a colony of China in the very near future doesn’t go down too well either. Last person leaving, switch off the lights please. Sorry, Domlec has done that already!
