PRESS RELEASE: Dominica Hospitals Authority; vandalism at Dominica China Friendship Hospital

The Dominica China Friendship Hospital

The management of the Dominica China Friendship Hospital has recorded several incidences of vandalism on the premises of the hospital and is deeply concerned about this dangerous trend.

Over the past several months, the hospital has encountered numerous challenges due to the destruction of hospital property, including safety and emergency equipment.

The emergency telephones in the elevators have been maliciously destroyed, in some cases completely ripped from the elevator walls.

“These phones have been destroyed on several occasions. They are essential for allowing individuals to alert someone outside in the event of an elevator malfunction or emergency,” informed the Manager of Safety and Security, Mr. Oliver Frederick. Cameras on the compound, particularly those inside of the elevators, have been tampered with. Frederick laments that this act can compromise the welfare and security of anyone on the premises.

The most recent incidence of vandalism involved the defacing of the Dominica China Friendship Hospital signs, which were installed at the main entrance to the facility.

“Such acts have no place in a facility specifically designed to provide essential care and attention to loved ones in a safe environment. Therefore, the Management and Staff of the Dominica Hospitals Authority kindly solicit the full cooperation of the general public in showing due respect to the equipment within the facility,” continued Mr Frederick.
According to the Chief Executive Officer, Ms. Nancy Francis, it is vital that the public understands the importance of signage and emergency response tools and equipment at the hospital.

“The name of the hospital is prominently affixed so that the general public, emergency responders and visitors can easily identify the hospital. We should not put anyone in a position to guess where the hospital is located because someone decided to maliciously destroy the signage. It is also very important for the public to respect the property of the State and to cease and desist from defacing and destroying emergency response tools, equipment and apparatus that are placed at strategic locations at the hospital,” Ms. Francis explained.

The CEO noted that when such acts occur, funds that were earmarked for other critical hospital operations have to be reallocated to fix the problem.

“Everyone should take personal responsibility for the upkeep and overall aesthetics of the hospital. It takes one person to destroy the hard work and effort that are placed in maintaining this beautiful facility. Therefore, I caution the perpetrators of this vicious act, that it will not be tolerated. We urge the general public to take personal responsibility and ownership of the hospital as it is there to serve all of us,” she pleaded.

The hospital management has also reported that on many occasions, visitors and patients have destroyed other items such as doors, toilet seats, toilet paper holders, lockers and even stolen flash drives from the informational monitors.
The hospital assures that the Safety and Security Department is working very closely with the Police to investigate these incidents and bring the perpetrators to justice.

Anyone with information relating to acts of vandalism at the hospital can contact the Security Department at the Dominica China Friendship Hospital at 266-2135 or the nearest police station.

Over the past several months, the hospital has encountered numerous challenges due to the destruction of hospital property, including safety and emergency equipment.” The say ive seen some nurses handling some equipment, some of them are bound to break.

But on a different note, this is a sign of the times. This is the work of young able bodied people. People who you would think have more sense in their heads. Some times when they go up there and they dont get the results they want they take their anger out on the facilities. Some are just plain basic idiots and know no better. But in all, this is just plain ignorance. Same type of people who destroy benches in Roseau for no apparent reason. Something is really and seriously wrong with a lot of our people you know. We saying that in joke, but our people have issues. I miss leaders like Mamo who didnt tolerate nonsense. and didnt allow Dominicans to do nonsense all in the sake of votes.

This is an institution that is in operation 24/7, this vandalism has an inside connection. This is not the first time that vandalism has taken place at this hospital and there has been no report of any arrest!!

DESPERATION!!!! Done and encouraged by people who hate Dominica and have no interest in its development. They are only concerned about power and the benifits. As of now the silence of the opposition on this matter is defeaning.

I have noticed,a long time ago,and I pointed that out,the toilet doors and toilet paper holders were deliberately being destroyed. That is the work of rogues, vagabonds, thieves and habitual criminals. Those who support that are themselves rogues, vagabonds, thieves and habitual criminals. The same criminals say nothing is happening in Dominica, when something happen they destroy it.

Something has seriously gone wrong when we begin to vandalize our institutions such as hospitals, health centers and schools, et cetera.

The supposedly hard working security personnel at the hospital seem to be hardly working. I wish the perpetrators could be caught then fined or incarcerated. This could never be justified.

Hypocritical! What could logically be the outcome of a campaign by the opposition and others who hate progress for Dominica that inculcates in the mind of their supporters that the Chinese are their enemy and that any and everything built with CBI money is theirs so they can claim it? You remember there was time that a former Leader of the Opposition told them that they should “take back,” “reclaim,” what is
“rightfully” theirs? I remember. This appalling status of vandalism at the Hospital is a direct consequence of the reckless rhetoric and treasonous by the opposition. No doubt! This is an easy case of incitement against certain members of the opposition.

“lockers and even stolen flash drives from the informational monitors.” it also mentioned above cameras were tempered with. so am I hearing there is no video evidence? I suggest you start you investigation with the people who have access to cameras and monitors. I also suggest you revise your security procedures and personnel because they are apparently negligent. Based on the fact that story indicated it’s a trend so it must have been happening for some time and only making press because 1. You guys cannot stop or 2. Your security procedures are not working. if that is the case I say fire your security. This story really comes across as someone trying to shift responsibility of the state of the hospital on people using. How convenient you have a serious issue but have no videos of perpetrators. if you do I suggest you make some arrest and have them charged and jailed for vandalism. That would deter others.

I condemn this to the maximum, and the hospital authority must double down on its efforts to capture and bring those involved to face justice. Despite the major shortcomings of the hospital, this is the place that i go to when my health problems are unbearable.
I find it strange though, with so much vandalism, and not the mention of a single arrest. Is it an inside job? So your cameras have captured ZERO culprits? Your security staff have captured ZERO culprits? Hmmmmmm. So what happens when patients with sound minds deliberately commit acts of vandalism? They just go home, and that’s it? Man Dominica should be renamed as JOKEinica! What embarrassment!
