Portsmouth, Dominica, May 8, 2023 – Site visitors from the International Agency for Accreditation and Rating (IAAR) met with Dominica’s Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit and members of his cabinet on Wednesday, May 3, 2023, to discuss areas of cooperation between the Government of Dominica and the American Canadian School of Medicine.
Trustees, Ambassador Hubert Charles, Dr. Andrew Padmos, former CEO of the Royal College of Canada, Dr. Bob Sokol, former President of the Society of Maternal-Fetal Medicine and Wayne State University Academy of Scholars; and Arvin Bagherpour MD, Chairman; Carey James, President; and Ramin Ahmadi MD, Dean of the American Canadian School of Medicine participated in the discussion.
Prime Minister Skerrit expressed full support for the American Canadian School of Medicine and its mission to provide high-quality medical education to students in the Commonwealth of Dominica and from other countries.
Officials of the Board of Directors of the American Canadian School of Medicine presented the school’s plans for growth and expansion, and committed to the highest standards of academic quality and rigor.
“We are pleased to have the support of the Prime Minister and his cabinet as we continue to expand our efforts to provide world-class medical education to students in the Commonwealth of Dominica and beyond,” said Dr. Bagherpour. “The American Canadian School of Medicine is committed to meeting the highest standards of
academic quality and consistency, and we look forward to working with the government to further our mission.”
The American Canadian School of Medicine is a leading medical school located in the Commonwealth of Dominica, offering MD degree programs in medicine. The school is committed to providing a first-class education that prepares students for successful careers in medicine in North America.
For more information about the American Canadian School of Medicine, please visit www.ACSOM.edu.dm.
Reading this article, it does not appear that the IAAR is independent of the American-Canadian School of Medicine. There appears to be a conflict of interest, no independence. Furthermore, an internet search revealed the following: ”IAAR is a nonprofit organisation that has a legal personality and was created to improve the competitiveness of both higher education institutions as well as technical and professional organisations of the Republic of Kazakhstan on the national and international levels.” The work of this organisation is restricted to Kazakhstan. I do not see American and Canadian students rushing to enroll in this school soon.
People let’s be positive and optimistic. If it’s good, Dominicans will benefit. Let’s keep hope alive.
“The American Canadian School of Medicine is a leading medical school located in the Commonwealth of Dominica” Erm, how can this be true when it hasn’t even opened its doors yet (and may not) ?
Who cares
That is a little blimp compared to what we lost from Ross University.
That’s the smirk of a dirty little crook…….I can see no positive promise for portsmouth in his evil eyes.
As for de others…..they never knew about this dot in the Caribbean…..de navel actually…….they signed an mou with skerrit
Are these people investors????
Really……like de MMC investor?
What a load of B.S. quite frankly.
I wish you a glorified loss….pack your bag and go look for another greedy politician to mingle with
Where is the university from Pakistan that Roosevelt had such a huge fan-flare about? What about those three universities that were supposed to replace RUSM?
Yes, Dominicans should welcome developments especially in education. But anything that’s promised or done by Roosevelt either does not come to fruition or turn to coal dust.
The black man above is a traitor and hater of Dominica and if we are not careful he will sell Dominica on us
“The American Canadian School of Medicine is a leading medical school located in the Commonwealth of Dominica, offering MD degree programs in medicine.”
This school is now seeking accreditation and it is already branded as a “leading medical school”? Are these people crazy? How can they be taken seriously in the face of this blatant untruth?
Zandoli, don’t be surprised if this is another Government approved project, exempt from import duties and not liable for income tax over many years, just like those “hotels”. A perfect recipe for money laundering. Money coming in from “students”and lodged into a local bank here without its real source having to be divulged and bingo, all of a sudden that money is clean.
@Zandoli
Great observation! Imagine that this medical school is yet to be accredited but is a leading medical institution. Paradoxical to say the least.
May I repeat for the umpteenth time. Everything that emanates from Roosevelt’s mouth even ‘a’, ‘an’ and ‘the’ is a LIE. The man is an unrepentant, perpetual LIAR.
Here are just some examples of his blatant Lies:
*coup d’ tat with a truck of musical instruments
*putting Mr. Linton to shame by revealing the whereabouts of the missing $2.5 B
*he knew nothing about Dominica’s diplomatic ties with Syria
*electoral reforms were imminent
*the national birds will return from Germany after they were medically well
*the international airport to be financed by the China, an American company, etc.
If this man got a mere 25 cents for each lie he has told, he would be a multi a billionaire today.
IAAR, the Independent Agency for Accreditation and Rating, based in Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan is recognised by the following countries as per the
WMFE, World Federation for Medical Education, valid till 1 Jan, 2028:
Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kyrgyz Republic, Republic of Moldova, State of Palestine, Romania, Russian Federation, Tajikistan, Ukraine, Uzbekistan.
Dominica does not yet appear on this list.
Oh ok. That listing, mostly by the Black Sea, sounds like the area where the European Jews that converted to Judaism originated from before it was annexed by Russia around the 1100’s era. Hence so many of them came from Russia when Israel was given to them by the rich countries, as if they are real Jews.
I thought the school had history in America or Canada and now establising a branch in Dominica, but no!
It is called the American Canadian School of Medicine but it only has one campus based in the Commonwealth of Dominica?
Another con! This will certainly vaporize and disappear by next year along with Prime Minister Skerrit!
“ACSOM is a new institution located in one of the world’s most stunning locations, the Caribbean.
Setting precedent as a non-profit working in unison with the Commonwealth of Dominica and local healthcare facilities, ACSOM makes access to medical education a top priority.” https://www.acsom.edu.dm/about
Ok, Skerrit changed the name of Pricess Margret Hospital to Dominica China friendship hospital and we all know it’s part of the China take over of Dominica that demand had to be met.
In like manner Skerrit got rid of Ross University because it was an American school and per the MOU he signed with China Ross was forced out. So why is he calling that CBI passport selling center the American Canadian university when we all know that it is owned by A Russian? I am asking because I want to know the truth
Skerrit is always throwing dirty water in those aholes face. This university should be named Fen Choo UWP.Dr.Ibo France:Chairman,Dr.Francisco Etienne-Dodds Telemaque:President, Dr.Tyrone Blessings Anthony:Dean.
What about this school being named after Dr Aliriza Monfared, Dr Immanuel Nanthan, Dr Roosevelt Skerrit and Dr Renneth Bobles Alexis?
Unabated foolishness from a lonely, disgruntled, loquacious busybody. Lazy Lin you remind me very much of this saying: “Common sense is not so common.”
When is DNO going to put a lid on this i….., Lin clown? This creature is actually telling people “indirectly” that DNO is all about shi….. This is definitely not freedom of speech. This creature is constantly insulting and disrespecting everyone who dare speak the truth on DNO. It’s unacceptable.
Boy, I notice P.M. getting podgy, too much of the good life? Watch your blood pressure my boy, hypertension is endemic in our country.
He and the president are growing horizontally. Too much black cake, confectionary, chocolate and ice cream. I understand that each has a sweet tooth.
In every sense of the word…
whether or not, I like this very much.
Is an IAAR accreditation recognised in the U.S.A., the E.U. or the U.K.
Get a life Me and stop being an as. hole for a change. Neither Lennox Linton nor Thomas Fontaine will ever become PM of Dominica. Stop dreaming, Mr. Dream Boy.
@ds
You seem to be leading a very “dirty” life style. Why are you so obsessed with the term “as. hole”???
You seem to be a very sick creature.
@me
Pathetic ds, Lazy Lin and foul-mouthed Dog Abuser, all three seem to have a passionate fixation with that specific part of the human anatomy.
How can you make such a prediction? If a colossal dunce like Roosevelt can become prime minister, any Dominican with a desire and a passion to aspire to this position can do it.
Messrs Linton and Fontaine are intellectually light years ahead of this ineloquent, incoherent imbecile who presently, by subterfuge, occupies the apex office of government.
There is an old saying, jalousie ca trey. Boy look jealousy. Dem folks are besides themselves boy. They sure cannot handle it. Skerrit has them all bamboozled. Dem folks are just enemies of progress. They want mashmallow Lennox to be PM and family-breaker Fontaine to be PM. They remind me of the Grenada Revolution where both Coard and Bishop wanted to be the PM SIMULTANEOUSLY.. Look roro. No more how intelligent you might think Lennox and Fontaine are, there is the saying, the small ax can cut the big tree. That is exactly what the Supreme Leader of Dominica is doing everyday.
IAAR is recognized by the World Federation of Medical Education (WFME). Students from medical schools whose accreditors are recognized by WFME are eligible to take the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) and apply for residency training in the United States through the NRMP. So yes, IAAR accreditation would be important to ACSOM medical students wishing to train and practice medicine in the United States.
Thank you, it’s refreshing to have an informed response like this rather than politically motivated naysaying.
Dear my. James, as an ex employee off Ross university in Dominica it is understandable your aim is to get graduates from your new medical school, at the same location in Picard to qualify for residence training in the U.S.A. So why the need to get there in a round-about way by trying to obtain accreditation from an institute in Kazakhstan instead of a reputable one in the U.S.A. Wouldn’t that be more logical and reassuring to your prospective students and their parents, guardians and sponsors? Is there something I am missing?
Dear Pipo,
There is only one accrediting body for MD programs in the United States, and that is the LCME. LCME restricts their accreditation to schools within the geographical United States.
Nevertheless, the United States is highly dependent on foreign medical graduates, with over a quarter of its physician workforce being foreign trained. What are the rules for a foreign trained physicians hoping to practice in the United States?
Foreign graduates wishing to practice in the US must first obtain ECFMG certification, then complete accredited postgraduate training in the US.
How does a foreign graduate obtain ECFMG certification? Amongst other things, you must successfully complete the United States Medical Licensing Exam and have graduated from an accredited medical school, whose accreditor is recognized by the WFME.
IAAR is recognized by the WFME.
Of note, ACSOM also has candidate status with ACCM. ACCM is the long time accreditor of AUC in St. Maarten. ACCM is WFME…
so no more linkinkong univeristy?
