2015 Carnival Queen Contestants

2015 Carnival Queen Contestants have been told to take the role of being ambassadors for Dominica seriously and to push their various platforms beyond the night of the show on February 6, 2015.

That advice came from Parliamentary Representative for Salisbury, Hector John.

He was speaking at the village launch of his niece, Keianna John, at the Salisbury Primary School over the weekend.

He told the contestants that they are not only ambassadors for their sponsors and community but for the country, and they should take that role seriously.

“You should ensure that you walk, talk, and act as responsible, respectful young ladies, young ambassadors of Dominica,” he said. “Not only before and during the queen show but this experience will be a life changing experience. People see you differently, people expect more of you and you have to show them more.”

The parliamentary representative urged the young ladies to continue to push to achieve success with their messages and platforms which he said should be demonstrated not only on the radio, but in their communities.

“The seeds that you planted during the carnival season, you want to see five, ten years down the road is bearing fruit. I want to encourage you to keep positive. Walk the streets of your community, interact with the boys on the block, interact with the elderly, pass the message, and spread the love. That is where you get the support. Not on the radio, not staying at home…”

John pointed out that social media is another area that the contestants could use.

He observed that the occasion should be used to reunite the community post-election.

Meantime Keianna John whose platform is to raise awareness about domestic violence, said it is something that was part of her, growing up.

“Growing up I had the unfortunate experience of witnessing this horror and like all dramatic experiences it has left its scars,” John said. “However, it has also ignited a fire in me which has made me who I am today and I want to share this fire with you all as I invite each of you to join me about raising awareness, in fuelling the fight about domestic violence,” she stated.

In addition, several queen contestants were given village launches on Sunday 28th December 2014. EMS-sponsored Normanna Jno Baptiste was launched at Tarrish Pit playing field, Odessa Elie of Bath Estate,  sponsored by Big Edge and Miniya’s 7-11 Ltd, was launched at the Bath Estate Court and Miss Petro Caribe Beyandra Blanchard of Pointe Mitchel was launched at Marshan’s Bar in that community.

They will do battle for the Miss Dominica crown at Windsor Park Sports Stadium.

I totally agree with you what ever happened to natural beauty

We have forgotten what natural beauty is. We are the only race covering our natural hair to put on this fake hair, wanting to look like the people who hate us. This is called self-hate. Why would I want to cover up what is natural? That tells me that we don’t like who we are. Deep in our subconscious, we believe that white is beautiful and black is ugliness. Just imagine, most of the people who sell this unnatural hair do not even like us and would not even throw some urine on us if we were on fire. We must learn to love and appreciate ourselves again. We must stand in front of the mirror and look at our thick lips, broad noses ,woolly hair and beautiful eyes and don’t move until we love what we see. We are beautiful people but we have been made to hate each other, as history would have it.
We need to rise up and erase that history so that we can be proud again and be the great people we once were. We need to educate ourselves about who we really are.

      ONE LOVE

I think it’s better to have their hair like this, than all over the place. Who ever thought of this thought well.
