Antigua gov’t denies anti-Falklands’ pact

St. John’s Antigua- Government, by way of a press statement issued Wednesday, disassociated Antigua & Barbuda from statements made in the wake of the recent Eleventh ALBA summit, which were carried in the local, regional and international press, about a ban on Falkland Islands-flagged ships.

A statement from the Argentine Ministry of Foreign Affairs said several Caribbean states and Nicaragua announced, last weekend, that they will bar, from their ports, any vessel flying the Falkland Islands flag. The declaration is similar to the Mercosur (South American trading bloc) ban imposed last December.

It quoted the Argentine Foreign Affairs Minister Hector Timmerman saying it was significant that all Latin American and Caribbean countries support the “legitimate rights of Argentina over the Malvinas.

    Mr PM
    Stay away from that debate ; don’t follow the dictator Chavez who has adopted this position just because of his hatred of Europe and democracies.

    If the Falkands should belong to Argentina, then Bird island should be french and not venezuelan, as it is close to Guadeloupe !

    Foresight! We following Chavez for a little penny bread, now we are becoming a political football, pawns in a geopolitical game!!!
    Do not compromise your independence, never be beholden to anyone! The day when we cannot take our own principled stand on issues is the day we lose our sovereignty!

    *******Good move Antigua*****

    Don’t involve yourself in such issues. Focus yourself on your Domestic policies. Don’t pick fights that;

    *Is non-of your business!
    *You will not win!
    *Will create economic problems for you!

    We in the caribbean must learn to pick our fights like the developed countries do!
