Barbados-based Fast Caribbean Ltd has been selected to manage a regional ferry service scheduled to come on stream this year, Transport Minister Devant Maharaj announced Thursday.
Initially, the ferry will carry passengers, vehicles and goods from its base in Trinidad and Tobago to Grenada, St Vincent and the Grenadines, St Lucia and Barbados.
no wonder your name is “laughing” u assume a child is on this website and even if by the title islandboy confuses you.. u must admit that any child who ventures on such mature topics is really not a child only in age cause he or she would be more mature than his/her peers..
I am trying to support OECS unity and u snobbing me come on.. neither you or i know the inner workings in managing a ferry service so dont pretend you know something.. i being here shows that the internet is indeed drawing like minds, culture,geo-political agendas together as an OECS region whom i must say is leaps and bounds over caricom indolent nature of unification..
oh i forgot to mention what i am happy about is that there are more options to travelling..we are surrounded by water and we are only seeking air travel as our base form of transportation.. its like telling tourist who visit VENICE,ITALY which is a city with water networks and water channels instead of roads by the way .. its like telling them to use a helicopter or hot air baloon.. to get around to their hotels, restaurants and shops does that make sense..
unlike airplanes with limited cargo and baggage weight capacity who knows cbean ppl now can get to buy and sell goods at cheaper rates.. and most importantly airlines like liat or cbean airlines in my view should have fixed flight rates for the various islands based on distance changing only seasonally based on the time of the year cause sea ferries dont have one price today and a different one next month as airlines do.. i think if our cbean air carriers can negotiate a new wave of doing business both air and sea travel can break even on profits with huge influx of passengers all year round.. food4thought
i am lucian and i like to comment on this online news site.. i understand how dominicans feel, like they are marginalised somewhat or alot .. i think that ferry service is strategically set on geographical distance 1st and foremost, feasibility of influx of customers in this part of the region and i believe trinidad did say eventually they will cover the rest of the northern islands…
i too feel why is it always barbados in the mix of things.. i am glad its trinidadian cause many bajans heads might just explode cause of egos balooning .. already they ve got red-jet [infact redjet was seeking jamaica as its hub -1st- but that didnt work out] i think st.vincent biz ppl should have fought hard to manage it instead cause its in the middle of all these islands where the ferry is going if not then st lucia…lol.. i am no patriot by the way..1caribbean1world
Listen son St. Vincent and St.Lucia dont have the money to run anything. Go in your little corner and suck your little OECS thumb . Only Barbados or Trinidad could underwite these big projects.Dont get involved in big people business alright.
From guadeloupe to dominica and st lucia u can only travel with 25K per person and the french company are not nice to dominicans .
Dominicans are not nice to themselves how the hell you expect someone else to be nice to them, where do you want me to begin, when every Dominican want to leave the island and go somewhere els, that means the island is rubbish . and why they ciming to our island
I see your point there Mr Anonymous. We donot really need the services. we may just need one from Stmarteen to Stlucia, and then the caribbean is basically connecated. I think it a good move to encourage caribbean tourism. i strongly believe that travel through out the caribbean should be affordable and efficient, we cant fully depend on the outside world to do it for us.
dominica get forget when comes to thing like that
I am sure once the business becomes viable they will extend the service further north to include Dominica, In the interim we already have a ferry service to St Lucia so what we may wish to do is to see if they can arrive at some code sharing where paasengers from Dominica can inter connect similar to what the airlines do.At the same time we should be negotiating with the ferry service serving us to start going to Antigua.
As a strategy Dominica (we)have to start looking at our comparative advantage in terms of our location – we are in the middle of the chain of islands and therefore here could be a transit point and a base for a ferry service serving the northern and southern islands – we have an opportunity – I would encourage the government to forget about considering investing in LIAT and an International airpot also and concentrate with DASPA in providing facilities that will facilitate sea trade both container and passenger in the Eastern Caribbean on the basis of our geograhic location.
What will happen to passengers when the sea is rough, have you ever considered that? LIAT is still going to be the final option when ferry operations are haulted. Don’t ever let the Government stop it’s fututre share hold on LIAT or any other carrier.
Great! I hope we put our money where our mouth
is and support this great move.
Very Good innitiative. Dominica does not have to be included. We already have a ferry service
connecting Dominica to Guadeloupe and St.Lucia
which is not fully utilized.Running a ferry service is quite expensive…What all you think
a ferry is not a PwiPwi
HOPE dOMINICA GETS ON THER SCHEDULE SOON BUT IS ACHEAPER OPTION TO TRAVEL TO TRINIDAD,BETTER FOR GOODS ETC
ok, so i am starting to think that these other caribbean leaders and businesses either dont think that dominica has any business opportunities, or they have something against the nature isle making progress. i mean, the island without the international airport and yet, they stopping in st lucia? they could even skip martinique. if they like because it is french. but what is with snubbing dominica all the time? jeez man
Dominica needs to have it’s own ferry service, that’s what we need to have.
such a wonderful move on the part of the barbados government putting thier money where their mouth is a country implementing plans and putting in place infrastructure to support the country sector tourism is the back bone of the barbados economy and so the are making sure the do everything to make sure they succeed
This is an initiative of the government of Trinidad and Tobago. NOT Barbados.
A Barbados BASED company has been chosen to run it.
You read the part where ths Minister boy from Trinidad say not one red cent of Trinidad money getting put in the project? Long stewps.
Great idea. Pity we’re left out of the loop. Would love to have a ferry service from, say Antigua extending to Barbados and including Dominica.
The fares will be higher, not be cheap.
Why can’t Dominica and Antiqua be included?
Cause we gonna have our own ting soon
Yeah, I heard! A pipwi with an outboard motor flying the parrot flag and a slogan painted on the side saying:”I’m Dominica, are you?”.
thats because by the time we would have reached Dominica or Antigua, we would have grown a beard… man or woman
I can see the cry for Antigua to be included but there is no real need for Dominica to be included if there is a ferry service which is already being operated which makes provision for Dominica from St. Lucia. The link to the south was broken and now with this new service i guess one could always do a ferry change over in St. Lucia and carry on downwards.
what, did they forget to name Dominica on their list
Hey why they left out dominica nuh? we need more passenger lift. I just hope the price is wright.
i know that price definitely aint “wright”
Well…… they could at least extend that service up to D/ca initially.
