Barbudans file injunction against construction on new airport

A group of Barbudans have filed an application for leave for judicial review of the Government of Antigua and Barbuda’s decision to construct an international airport on the island.

The request, filed with the High Court of Justice of Antigua and Barbuda last Friday and served to the defendants this morning, moves for the immediate shut down of the development of the airport on Barbuda, Antigua Newsroom is reporting.

The Barbudans seek to address failures by their central government to meet critical requirements under the Physical Planning Act 2003 in the development of the airport and failure to follow proper planning procedures where the government has started or permitted construction.

Someone need to file similar papers at Dominica for the stoppage of construction of the two major projects at Portsmouth for the oversight in the planing and development of an adequate sewage treatment facility, and waste management system to accommodate the multitude of guests these developers claim to be attracting,,,

Not to mention an adequate medical facility to facilitate the number of foreigners whom will be entering, bringing “who-knows-what” with them,,,

Dominica, have historically been JEALOUSY ASSIMILATED, Conquest, is what Dominica derived from, the initiators of this very said conquest, have all left the Island to greener pastures, leaving Dominica to what it is, MOUNTAINS of ROCKS. Dominica, is is not our every day sitting on pristine waters Island, with beautiful beaches all around, Dominica, is not instant returns on investments.GOD, did not create Dominica, for those calling the Island their own, I personally, don’t ever like to be refered as a Dominican, Trini ST Lucian, Ect ect, I descended from a great people who was brought here to the islands to create WEALTH for the WHITE MAN, Today, the White Man have left some what, they are replaced by Syrian, Chinese and the Corrupt politicians , their family and friends, Dominica, is not fortunate like the other Islands, the minds have not evolve from ANIMALISTIC thinking, ignorance in some cases, have taken hold of whatever little SANITY that currently exist.

Bob , give it a break man. Next you want to tell us that Papa Doc was a white man in disguise. I am pissed off with our leadership in Africa man, right now close to a million of African people, including from Nigeria and Ghana are waiting in misery in Libya to make a miserable crossing to Europe. Time we are honest with ourselves and atop blaming everybody else but not ourselves. I am very tired of that concept Bob.

The airport runway at Melville hall needs to be extended out into the Atlantic by at least 1500 feet to accommodate jets. Jets could then land from the ocean.

The Technology already exist to secure a properly developed ocean runway extension.
      Our leaders are clueless.
      1. Re route the highway via the West side of the runway.
      2. Construct a New modern state of the art terminal facility on the oppose side and expand the river channel to allow easy flow water which would avoid flooding during high rain full periods.

      3. Extent the runway 1700 ft into the ocean.

Whereas you believe you are making sense,  I must inform you; your ideas are all nonsensical. What you do not know is that; where the present Municipal  Airport is located at Melville, it is in a known flood area.

Anytime it rains heavily, that area from Governor at the top of the Runway; or shall I say West to East at the end of the Runway floods out, and this has been taking place for thousands of years! We cannot change that, nobody can change that, there is no technology to change the geography of the area.

The Melville Hall River will continue to overflow its bank, and flood the building along the runway, you can build on the sea if you can that will not change the status quo!

Land are already bought to accommodate an International Airport: We would have one more than twenty years ago if the Labor Party did not shut it down after the UWP lost the election.

What does that story have to do with the Antigua issue ?

Really? They need way more than 1500ft if the commercial jet are to land from the ocean.

Aircraft coming in to land at Melville Hall (DOM) do so with a tailwind, requiring longer runway space than if an approach made from the opposingdirection, against the prevailing wind. Secondly, the exising runwayat DOM doesn’t provide sufficiënt safety margin for an aircraft to lift and go around again in case of an aborted landing with an approach from the sea. With regard to extending the runway further out into the Atlantic, one only needs to consult the depth charts of Dominica’s coast at that location to realise that this is imptactible, not to say impossible.

You see the difference, Antigua government did not say “we have one in Antigua already; and there is one in St. Kitts too.” Fact is lots of Chines investors are heading to Barbuda, investing into tourism, they have bought land there since Maria.

Gaston realize there must be international flights into and out of Barbuda if the industry is to be successful in Barbuda as it is in Antigua!

If foreigners are going to  invest on the sister island there must be solid means of transportation by air in and out of the island. You do not hear anybody talking about fairy boat transportation; when people fly from America or China to Antigua, you pile them on a boat and take to Barbuda, or have regular schedule flight on LIAT.

In any event LIAT largest aircraft’s cannot land in Barbuda at the moment anyway! And by the the almost one hundred thousand people of Antigua are not objecting to the construction, and that is how a progressive people behave!
