GEORGETOWN, Guyana, CMC – The inaugural National Men’s Rally was launched here on Sunday with a Bahamian religious official warning that the Caribbean is facing a crisis among the male population.
Founder of the Bahamas Faith Ministries International, Dr Myles Munroe said 93 per cent of all criminal activities in the Caribbean were committed by males, who also account for a high number of school drop outs.
“We have a male crisis in the Caribbean. We have broken homes, single mothers, rise in crime, homicide, domestic abuse, acts of rape – most of which are committed by males,” he said, urging men to “raise the standards” in the society.
“Manhood is not about the amount of money one may earn, but the difference men make in society. A man must have a clear vision of life, and to make a difference in his country…a man should be a protector and a cultivator, and not an abuser,” he said.
“I challenging you, be the foundation of Guyana…I believe that tonight (Sunday) is the beginning of a new Guyana because you have begun to address the most important part of this national reconstruction; most of the programmes in our countries focus on women but I want to commend this country.”
“We need, as men, to raise the standard in our society, and I believe that in this rally tonight, I am convinced because of the national commitment of this country to putting attention on the male, that Guyana is about to set the pace for the rest of the nations in the Caribbean.
“Guyana has to be proud; you are setting a standard for all of the nations of the Caribbean to follow,” he said, urging The Bahamas government to follow Guyana’s lead in organizing a similar rally.
In his address to the rally, President Bharrat Jagdeo said there must be a re-awakening of the important values confronting men.
“Vices will continue in our society, but it is how we respond to these vices that will determine our character. We can make a better life for ourselves, for our families and for our country.”
However, Jagdeo noted to do this, men in Guyana have to reverse a worrying trend where males are the majority of early school leavers, while two- thirds of the graduates of the University of Guyana and the University of the West Indies are females.
The rally has been part of the events for National Men’s Week that was celebrated here under the theme “Men are Nation Builders”.
when you leave in a society when a what a man is is dictated by women then real men are afraid to stand up and be MEN . any man that stands up and say what a man is he is attacked by women as being sexist . equal is equal you cannot want 75% and e equal . this reminds me of animal farm all animals are equal but some are more equal . It is time for man to stand up and take his rightful place not as master but as equal and we need to start praising the real men trying to make a difference the real fathers who everyday take their responsibilities and raise their children instead of just pointing out those who do nothing
The men have sold their rights to the lower animals.
Example, a dog will respect a female when not in heat, but a man will rape a woman when not in heat.
maybe men are the weaker vessel
Dr., this is not breaking news at all. Even a four year old child knows that males and not females are the ones committing crimes from misdemeanors to heinous since A.D. and even B.C.
Well if they are looking…we have some in Marigot Dominica and our State Prison….
tell us something we don’t know. why u think so many women turning to lesbians? not enough good men to go around.
