The 35th Meeting of the Standing Committee of Caribbean Statisticians (SCCS) opens today at the Fort Young Hotel here in Dominica and concludes tomorrow.
Today the statisticians will see a status report on national accounts data submitted to the CARICOM Secretariat, the developmental work in the area of environmental statistics and the proposed work plan for 2011/2012 along with progress reports on other areas of economic statistics.
It will also look at the implementation of the 2008 System of National Accounts in the CARICOM region; execute a preliminary review of data quality in member countries; examine the progress on the compilation and dissemination of merchandise trade statistics and the regional initiative on promoting food security and look at a regional policy formulation on agricultural statistics.
Meanwhile, the opening of the two-day 19th Meeting of the Regional Census Coordinating Committee (RCCC) will follow the SCCS event on Wednesday at the same venue.
The RCCC meeting will examine a status report on the implementation of a regional strategy of support to the conduct of the 2010 Round of Population and Housing Censuses in the Caribbean Community (CARICOM).
