CARICOM leaders call for ‘new beginning’

Heads of government of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) started their pivotal 23rd inter-sessional meeting in Paramaribo on Thursday with a call for renewed vigour and optimism to address the current challenges and further the integration agenda.

President of Suriname and CARICOM chair, Desire Bouterse, argued that not only a “better and more empowered” Secretariat is necessary to do so, but also the political will of the leaders as elected officials.

“We should welcome our people’s conviction that their lives can be made better within the region, and not force our talent to migrate beyond,” said the Surinamese president at the opening ceremony of the two-day meeting.

“CARICOM, according to Mr. Douglas, needs to be strategic, and must position itself to become more meaningfully engaged into other regional groupings.

And the Community must continue to forge strategic alliances recognizing that their respective strengths and resources can assist the Community in propelling itself towards a platform for strengthened functional cooperation.”

    Point well taken Mr. Douglas!

As for reparations? Well that will come, only when we unite as one and demand it with one voice.
Jamaica will lead the way and wake us up from that deep sleep, and reparations must come
One way or another. But it will come for sure.

    Caricom,

We need to look into a change of people’s condition in the caribbean.

Open a department of the Repairing of the damage of slavery…reparations within where we set up instutions to look into the areas where we can bring about social recovery and reparations to the great debt…five hundred years of free labour.

    So much malaway in the cities;

so much desolation in the villages.

why are you all choosing to wish away this issue.

Or maybe you have already determined the massive amount of work in diplomacy and decided to put the issue on the backburner for the coming generations. In the meantime you are having a ball with your financial supporters who happen to be our former slavers.

Inother words you have chosen the road of hypocracy where diplomacy is easier. In the meantime the people who need a financial push to start a family, to open a business, to further their studies, to go into farming are wasted into economic slavery.

Caricom leaders, you will be counted as our present leaders IN ALL SPHERES, HISTORY WILL RECORD YOU AS TRAITORS OF YOUR PEOPLE.

Take heed and fulfill the dream of William Dumas who started this integration for the good of all and not a few.

CARICOM LEADERS, you choose to shut your eyes to the reality of the people.

I agree with you 100%. They are a complete waste of time. What life enhancing thing can the average Caribbean person point to that they can attribute to Caricom?
