PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, Wednesday June 15, 2011 – A man was killed and his son critically injured yesterday afternoon when two men opened fire on their vehicle outside the Diego Martin North Secondary School.
The gunmen, dressed in school uniforms, approached the car around 2:30 p.m. and began shooting at Dexter Gillard, 40, and Raheem Gillard, 14, just after the boy got into the car.
According to police they were sitting in the car, waiting for two of the boy’s friends who were to get a ride with them, when the gunfire erupted.

The T & T Prime Minister said that she will eradicate crimes/murders. I do not see how this could be achieved. It appears there is not much they can do except to try. Daily people are still being murdered and other crimes are committed. Recently a ten year- old young boy was found dead. He was on his way to an errand and he did not return home.
It is a slippery slope and it has gone down far down-hill. Only God can put a hand.
The T & T PM as other governments of the world should commence with the youth while they are still in school and discipline them to love and respect others. There is a need for this sort of curriculum in this era. Children are not the type of children as they were in previous years. They lack discipline, obedience and respect for others including their lives.
Bad company corrupts. Some of them have chosen to associate with bad company. They appear not to be wise enough to stay away from such people and that those people are not genuine friends.
I do think they should be taught in no uncertain way to avoid crimes and live by the Law. They will be happier for it.
I do feel that if all governments of the world would establish this, as the older murderers and other criminals die be it naturally, crime in T & T and elsewhere in the world would be eradicated, if not, decreased.
I am a confident person that it could be done. I do believe that some parents, the government and society have somewhat failed those people. Therefore, we are paying the price, some with their lives.
