FEMA: Puerto Rico running out of time as storm season nears

The administrator of the U.S. Federal Emergency Management Agency said Friday it will take up to an estimated $50 billion to help rebuild Puerto Rico from Hurricane Maria and warned that the U.S. territory is not ready for another disaster.

Brock Long said his agency aims to make the island’s roads, homes, bridges and electrical grid as strong as possible but noted that the next hurricane season starts June 1.

“We’re running out of time,” he said during a visit to Puerto Rico, adding that much of the island’s infrastructure collapsed. “We have a long way to go.”

Long said his agency also is coordinating a June 14 planning and training exercise with Puerto Rico’s government in which life-saving supplies will be delivered to the island’s 78 municipalities to ensure better response times for any upcoming storms. Cities and towns will be allowed to store those supplies for future disasters.

If you really take your time, and read the article, and if you stay abreast with actual news, you’d see that though Dominica was beaten to a pulp by Maria, Puerto Rico WHICH IS UNITES STATES OF AMERICA SOIL isn’t even getting the much needed help they should be getting from their superior land, we don’t have a superior land, we have people and organizations trying to aid us and i’m not a skerrit or linton fan but be fair, we actually look like we on some sort of track vs Puerto Rico who should have been on track a long time ago……this country is by far more modernized and should have the proper equipment and help to speed up recovery but i guess not

My brother Puerto Rico needs over 50 billion USD to rebuild… Puerto Rico is on track and more advanced in its recovery than Dominica. The thing with us in Dominica is that we accept mediocrity but in Puerto Rico they don’t so go online and check out the countries hit by last years hurricanes and tell me who is more vulnerable and likely to suffer more?

One day Dominica will be free again and DNO , DBS and others in the press and media will be able to truthfully report to the nation and indeed the world, what is truly taking place in Dominica, without any being afraid of victimization, lawsuit and closure. As of now every body afraid to speak except if you are going to lie and twist the truth to suite Skerrit. Right now is only Skerrit and Tony can talk,

My bad boy boy boy all can talk nonesense and I am sure you must be one seating on the roadside and complaining. Say what part you have played after Maria. Always speaking out of context. Are you abreast of the cleanup, Domlec etc and other strides we have done? I guess you seating too much on the block.. You need to do a tour of Dominica. Yes I agree there is much to be done. But maybe you never saw the country or even the pics after Hurricane Maria. Before you speak .. listen to yourself

I must certainly conclude that Dominica will be turned into the next “Haiti”

The headline could easily have read, Dominica is running out of time as the storm season nears. Just ask the residents of Coulibistrie, Colihaut and all those crossing temporary bridges all over the island.
We pray that no hurricane or for that matter tropical storm strike the nature isle in 2018.
    God bless Dominica.

Tough job isn’t it? No need to change government mid-storm. Neither you nor Skeritt is an expert on rebuilding after a major catastrophic event. It’s more prudent to just sit back, keep being our watchdog, lend a hand where you may, organize brigades of skilled helpers etc. etc. It’s more serious than just changing who gets to undertake this enormous task. It’s bigger than that. No need to fight right now, let the dust settle.

All you and the opposition do is talk about the sale of passport, and how corupt Skeritt is. You all haven’t asked for one cent on behalf of Dominica or encouraged a single individual or institution to help. What you all are in fact telling the world is that the only thing wrong with Dominica is the government. Our roads are in top shape, schools, hospitals another government institutions are functioning, we are coping just fine our only problem is the Skerrit Government. How does such an attitude convey to the world that things are bad?

They are worse for wear and you are complaining about lights? If anything, Dominica is doing far better than Puerto Rico. Be grateful you still have food and shelter and possibly a job.

Dominica is also running out of time . We still have a lot of houses that are covered in tapoline and yet the Gov’t has no plans because of incompetence on what are the next steps.
I can’t wait to get these guys out of office.
Dominica will not progress with this fake DLP in office.
    Skerritt must go!

Why don’t you take his place? Stop B******* about it and do something.
      “Skeritt must go” jack***
You talk about how he must yet there’s only one person brave enough to do it and that’s Linton, I may not like Linton but I have to give him some respect for being brave enough…

What are you doing? Sitting there with a phone or whatever you’re using complaining expecting the gov to do everything ??? LAZY!

  9. We Not Real
    April 9, 2018

“Brock Long said his agency aims to make the island’s roads, homes, bridges and electrical grid as strong as possible but noted that the next hurricane season starts June 1. Unfortunately we have no one to report on where Dominica is at this time. When last we even got a report of where we are? Is the same Gand of monsters that told us that Maria was not going to bad and therefore no need to gather food, water and hurricane supplies, while the opposition was on Q95 warning against a very dangerous Maria and those evil ones were telling people not to listen to them. We are about to enter a worse hurricane season than last year and sadly, in a far worse situation. In Puerto Rico they have FEMA but in DA all we have is FEAR! Skerrit them faking everything and no one, not even the media can talk. As we speak the breaking news is Trump’s lawyer’s office is being raided while in Dominica, it is Skerrit’s lawyer that is ordering the police to go search the house of the opposition.

    • April 9, 2018

Stop your lies about opposition been on Q95 warning about dangerous storm, everything is about politics.

ADMIN: Thompson Fontaine did, in fact, warn of the true dangers of Maria before it hit. http://thedominican.net/2017/11/tdn-radio-and-hurricane-maria-coverage.html

So all you want to blame someone for a natural disaster? eh bien bat! Something wrong with all you thinking. Ungrateful even to the one who spared our lives is the worse.

    April 9, 2018

Puerto Rico might be running out of time but unfortunately, Dominica seems to have given up a day after Maria, though we were by far the worse hit country. I have been to Puerto Rico several times after Maria, and I can tell you though they are still in the dark, their is HOPE for them, whereas Dominica is in utter darkness and without any sense of hope for the future, as long as Roosvelt Skerrit remains in power. We never recovered from Erika in 2015, though it was only parts of the south that got hit far less now the entire island got destroyed. The truth is, as bad as things are in Puerto Rico they will be alright because in the worse scenario, they are Americans and can run to the US to shelter the storm, unlike us in DA that have nowhere to run. “Brock Long said his agency aims to make the island’s roads, homes, bridges and electrical grid as strong as possible but noted that the next hurricane season starts June 1”. Who do we turn to for help? Skerrit? Tony? Simmeon? Stupes

    • It's My Damn Business
      April 9, 2018

The world gets to know about the situation in PR because of the free press whereas though things are worse here we have no one, not the government, not the media, and when the opposition tells the world about the mess that we are in they are called traitors by the cabal and now their very own who was bribed, says they are not nationalistic. Who will go up for us? Who will speak for us? Who will stand for us? Skerrit no doubt is getting money but all he does is talk and bribe people, while the country gets worse. Compare what FEMA says to what Collin Piper tells the world “Nothing is better for our recovery from Hurricane Maria than visitors to our island,” , To hell with the living condition of the people as long tourists come. That’s where we are people less than 2 months from next hurricane season. Yet, Skerrit’s family as well as the family of his mouth piece Tony, reside in the US while our people are suffering and dying under blue Tap. I MUST SPEAK Man because we in trouble

        April 10, 2018

Eh bien all you can talk nonesense. In a world like now with all technology, that is what you saying. Something wong with all you thinking. So It’s my Damn Business ??? You alone in trouble because it Is Jehovah who is in control. You should be grateful for life in the 1st place and give glory to whom it is due. We could have all died. People have to help themselves too. Clean your area and volunteer to help neigbours especially those elderly and cannot help themselves. The Government can only as much. I cleaned my surroundings.. Helped others and yes I am still under tarpaulin yes I am but I give praise to Jehovah who protected me and the people of Dominica. Stop complaining and get something to do with your free time. Not lip service but real action. You need to give thanks for all who came to assist us too. There is someone out there who is worse out than you. Always remember that. And don’t forget those who lost their loved ones in the Hurricane.
