Hurricane Irene devastates southeastern Bahamas

The hurricane hitting Nassau this morning

Irene devastated portions of the Southeastern Bahamas over the past 14 hours, leaving several islands flooded and homes damaged. But the category three hurricane also reportedly wiped 90 percent of the settlement of Lovely Bay, Acklins off of the map.

As Irene crept into the Bahamas it packed winds sustained at 90 miles per hour as a category 2 storm. However, as it progressed into the island of Inagua it grew into a category three – a major hurricane – and began to wreak havoc in the small settlements on the small island in the south.

Owner of a radio station in Exuma Dwight Hart said the island has shown signs of flooding and is experiencing an island-wide blackout.

Thank God Dominica was spared. Dominicans could state, “Irene goodbye Irene.”
Irene is now approaching the Eastern part of Canada. Those parts usually get hurricanes and with flooding. They also get a bad winter.
Night before Toronto had a share of it with rain, thunder and lightning. We expect more rain. Today is cloudy and windy.
I was on the computer and when I heard the thunder, I tried to turn it off quickly. While doing this, the computer automatically turned off by itself and ventured to be turned on again by itself – strange! This was caused by thunder and lightning. Yet the lights did not go off. I had to manually turn it off. Thank God it is operable. It is important to have proper grounding-protective serge bar to avoid a computer crash. I hope this will assist against a computer crash.
Toronto had some terrible thunder and lightning which I observed on TV. Eventually I fell asleep and slept through it. Prayers work wonders and yes the use of Holy Water.
Some trees fell down and some 250,000 people in another part of Toronto were out of electricity.
Last weekend, an area in Ontario which comprises of approximately 8,500 people was devastated by a tornado. I heard that this is a beautiful area and every building was affected. One person died. He was in his 60’s. This death is questionable because the man was at work with other coworkers and only he died. I read on MSN.Sympatico.ca that the wife is demanding answers of why her husband was the only one who died among those co-workers. My speculative conclusion is that he may have died of a heart attack. When the autopsy is conducted it will reveal the cause of death.
Fellow Dominicans, keep on praying. I do hope that Dominica will be spared further. God bless you!
