Prime Minister Andrew Holness says he will take legislation to Parliament shortly to ensure that holders of four major political offices in the island declare their personal assets on a yearly basis and make them public.

Speaking to journalists at Jamaica House Friday afternoon on his recently declared assets, Holness said that his proposal would require the prime minister, the minister of finance, as well as the leader of the Opposition and the Opposition’s spokesperson on finance to declare their assets and make them public, annually.

He said that the experience of dealing with the questions about his personal assets had raised the bar about the importance of public reassurance regarding the integrity of political leaders and the importance of declaring their assets on time.

Mr. Skerrit please pay attention of how grown, honest and decent men behave. Why don’t you want to declare your assets. What do you have to hide. Instead you went to parliament and dismantle the IPO law. What a shame and national disgrace. Only time will tell.

Good idea. But did Edison and other leaders of the UWP declare their assets? The present leader of the opposition can release his assets if he so chooses, he doesn’t need a law to allow him to do that. So lead by example.
