Jamaican police get tough on public demonstrations

The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) this week advised members of the public, especially representatives of the island’s political parties, of the relevant laws pertaining to public marches and public processions.

The police warned that under the Public Order Act (Section 4), it is unlawful for any public marches to take place during the night. It is also unlawful for any public marches to take place in daylight unless a permit has been issued by the police.

Why would anyone want to hold a match in the night and without a permit? This includes processions in the evenings. Matches usually take place during the day. The same applies to processions. On occasion, some of the latter have been held early mornings at a certain time as I recall it. Times are not what they were in previous years. These days I wonder if they are held early mornings. In any case, due also to traffic disruption, they should apply for a permit. This is the Law and every one should abide by the Law. This pertains to all countries.

Yes, they will continue to try to suppress freedom of expression and speech to the degree that people let them on their road to communism. You have to fight for freedom. If is not a given.
