As of June 2011, career women living in the Caribbean and the diaspora now have an opportunity for networking via a newly launched networking website called Caribbean Women Who Lunch Inc. (CWWL),www.caribbeanwomenwholunch.com.
The CWWL website is a new web-based platform aimed at providing women a system of sisterly support for career growth. The site provides access to global networks through online communication, and encourages person-to-person lunch meetings to further develop connections made on the site.
The Caribbean Women Who Lunch name was formed as a play on the term ‘ladies who lunch’ – a phrase coined to describe well-off women who meet socially for lunch during the working week. The CWWL website is a space for career women to mix, mingle and benefit from an expansive pool of like-minded women of Caribbean descent all over the globe.
The site is particularly useful for female entrepreneurs who want to grow their businesses beyond the communities they reside in, providing an avenue for them to showcase their goods and services to a global marketplace.
CWWL was created by Diane L. Samuels, a Jamaican-born career success coach based in New York. Samuels explains, “Based on some of the feedback I received from women I have coached, I noted that women don’t tend to network either as much as or in the same ways as men, and because networking is an integral part of getting ahead, I wanted to provide this platform”.
In addition to the website and occasional networking lunch, CWWL also plans to organize seminars and workshops drawing on the knowledge and tremendous experience of its members. The biggest event will be an annual conference aimed at creating additional ways for women to come together to focus on their careers.
The first CWWL event will be held in Jamaica later this year.
