Pandemonium reportedly broke out on a LIAT flight from St. Kitts to St. Maarten when one of the engines stopped functioning.
The incident occurred on Monday evening and press reports coming out of St. Maarten indicate that passengers had to be restrained by the stewardess because they thought that the aircraft was going down in the Caribbean Sea.
According to reports the Dash 8 plane landed safely with the one functioning engine at the Princess Juliana International Airport at about 8:30 p.m. Several passengers kissed the ground in happiness after the landing.
“I thought that we were all dead, when I saw the engine stop in mid air, and many of the passengers were crying,” one passenger told The St Maarten Today.
There has been no information coming from LIAT on the matter and as of Thursday reports from St. Maarten said the plane in question was still at the airport.
Pilots with a multi-engine rating are trained for these events.
LIAT is simply the best! Whether they r forever late, their tickets are expensive I don’t think no other airline can compare. We have to give them their respect. The pilot and crew need a well deserve clap and we should really appreciate them for their calmness and skills to come out of a terrible situation. I don’t see the need for any negative comments. Just thank the lord that they were able to land safely and everyone was ok.
They kiss ground? I would do more than that, i would dig dirt and eat dirt!!!!!!!!
lol…lol…i would have passed out before it landed…piss in my pants and all…lol…
With God all things are possible. And it was indeed God’s hand that guided the pilots to safely land that plane. Without him they couldn’t have done anything that was done . To God be the glory.
only time you hear about god eh
We appreciate the action of the liat pilots in bringing the plane to a safe landing. But seriously people, even though such an event do not happen every day with Liat, they happen every day elsewhere and do not make the news.Pilots are trained specifically for that scenario. airplanes are also designed to temporarily fly with one engine. Indeed they are specific emergency procedures for such a situation! If a large loaded bus on the Portsmouth highway blew a tire but the driver was able to bring the vehicle under control should that make news? No,I don’t think so either. There are serious and potentially deadly and missed catastrophic situations everywhere, but not all need make news.
where de 8 million allu PM give LIAT. LIAT falling and mr. still investing our hard earn money. As the Labourites say. GOD BLESS MY PM
what a foolish, foolish comment
I CAN ONLY IMAGINE ! THANK GOD EVERYBODY SAFE !
LIAT better not play around people’s lives with their stupid engines
i can see you never rode an aircraft, they are just like cars, they break down and fall too
As an airline service you need to give good service, and always ensure that the passengers lives are not endangered. After LIAT already giving poor service they still have poor engines.
nothing new…
It happens relatively often, just doesn’t make the news.
Good thing is that airplane can actually be flown with one engine.
The decision to continue the flight depends on the distance to the nearest airport where they can get clearance and drop the passengers safely then the crew flies with one engine to the nearest hub where they can get repairs.
Oh God, this news now when I’m flying out on Sunday? I’m already such a nervous flyer. This surely won’t make me feel any better.
LIAT does have some of the best pilots. Let’s hope the standards will be maintained. The fire a few weeks ago may have impacted on their quality of repairs/maintenance. In almost 60 years of flying, I can only recall 2 crashes. One fatal in 1986. Their customer service stinks and need serious improvement, but I guess better a good pilot than a courteous customer rep. :)) LIAT claims that it flys to 25 Caribbean destinations with more than 700,000 passengers per year. They have a good safety record so far, so let’s hope that continues and give praise to God that we do not have many accidents.
LIAT has the best Pilots, the Customer Service is better than that of many carriers that comes to our region and i’m thankfull for them.
I agree. I heard that too…liat has the best pilots but i still remember that kool turbulance i got from st thomas to da. I swear i was going to die. Plane go down and come back up. Boy look screaming and our father. If people don’t know jesus and hail mary just put them on a plane with turbulance.
But that’s a dash 8 for u….i just needs to see a cloud and it starts to dance
If, God forbid, the aircraft had crashed, for some it would be like witnessing a UWP victory at the Polls. How sadist we are.We are finding verything negative to say about a most heroic act by the pilots. yes, they are professionals but they are human too. They rose above the human weakness and did not panick. Hats off to LIAT, the First Officer and his assistant on that flight.
where you come out with that nuh. while to say something negative, you coming out as a negative person. You not really making sense here.
are you an mule patriot? what does UWP,PAPPY,FREEDOm and Labour have to do with an enginge cutoff?
and i did type “an mule” read between the lines ppl
People Please! What is wrong with Mr. Piper? Say what you wish about not giving credits to the Pilots.. Liat have some of the Best Pilots in the reigon. Have you ever had to fly one full people on a single engine? do you know what it means when a plane goes “off BALANCE”? Are you even aware of “what could have been” what can I say? hmmm. God is always in control.. These things happen all the time. If we are to compare liat with all the other stuff going on with other airlines, take off verses crashes, I would give them an “A”. please I have no shares in Liat, but sometimes we need to appreciate and support our own. Thumbs up to the Captain and crew. they remained focused on the task at hand.
all am say is thank you lord for a safe landing.
everytime LIAT engine giving problem….that needs to be fixed
FIXED ? U MEAN FRO !!!
We need another airlien in the Caribbean souple…
Remember Cardinal Airlines from Dominica had a fatal crash and CAL had crashes, not to mention Air France and AA. pLEASE WHEN IT COMES TO SAFETY GIVE ME liat. They can be late like rats give me liat.
fly emirates and al their moneys can invest here ehh
Most airline crashes are pilot error, usually because of his/her inability to apply the training they received. Better know as “panic”. It may be all in a day’s work, but in situations like this is where one displays how well he comprehended his training. Thank God these pilots did it well.
Say what you want about LIAT – but they do have the best pilots in the business. Amazing!
I agree. Well said. And Liat has one of the best safety record worl wide.
I have no doubts in the pilots who fly for LIAT. They are great and I have had very pleasant landing and take off every single time. Hats off to these pilots for constant great job!!!
God was watching!!!! Praise to his holly name
Great job Yahweh and then the pilot! The thing about turbo- prop engines is that they are reliable, even if one is functioning. The stewardess deserves a medal if there was really all that commotion.
In everything, give thanks to the Almighty!
Am happy dat the aircraft landed saftly, but LIAT needs @ list 8 new aircrafts.
Well said Way Papa
Piper you just an @55
If you were on that plane you would shit your pants too.
No such thing would happen because I have flowing planes before and I know how they work. We owned two aircrafts in my family.
awah wi piper as if u just showing off now…come out on dno plz with nonsensical statements.
You have flowing planes for real.
That must have been a frightning experience, I think when it your time to go God will take you wither you be in air land or sea. xxxx for the crew
WOW! (clapping hands) Hats off to the pilot and his co. And all praises to God.
amen
Why didn’t you blame God for shutting down the engine? Why do you attibute the fact that the plane landed safely to God. The plane landed safely because it was engineered to fly on one engine and proper pilot training.
God had no hand in this either way.
Excuse me but piper is satan yur brother? How dear u disrespect my god and say he have nothing to do with it. U better ask god for forgiveness cause i am sorry to say he is going to teach u a good lesson , trust me u will b calling on his name. The next time i pass on dno i hope i don’t hear u crying to god. Lord jesus forgive piper cause he has no clue what he is saying.
beggars cannot be choosers! we begging for another airline we have no choice!
you are the only begger in the room buddy…
please resist the urge for ORAL DEFECATION!!
I tell you these LIAT Pilots are damn good eh, i never fear when am on board a LIAT aircraft!!!!
Kudos to the Captain and Co-Pilot…..
But the aircraft is designed to fly on one engine. Furthermore, the pilots are trained for such an evantuality. Although that was not a routine landing, there was nothing heroic about that. That is all in a days work. These guys are professionals.
Some see the glass half empty, other see it half full. For you Piper, there is no glass. smh. Kudos to the pilot and LIAT staff.
Piper is correct…..all in a days work.
Piper why all the thumbs down, turbo prop airplanes are very reliable and like you said can fly, without hassle one 1 engine!!!
piper is correct! they are really design to fly on one engine
Yes Piper IS correct why all the dislikes !?
You’re a jack though!
Have you ever heard of pilot/ Human Error. They do happen at times of crisis.
Yep, they have some good pilots. That is why the best one was chosen to do the fake “inaugural” night landing flight while Skerrit sat in the VIP.
(tapping on shoulder) Met, look correction have something brown on his nose wi.
