Unions operating within the LIAT system and the airline management appear to be on a collision course yet again, this time over a plan to send home workers to facilitate outsourcing.
The unions, through the Regional Grouping of Trade Unions, have refused to attend a meeting in Antigua today to discuss the proposal.
In addition, the group, chaired by Senator Chester Humphrey, has put the management on notice that unions are not prepared to hold “any discussions on issues of mass termination of employees by reason of redundancy as an isolated matter.”
WELL WELL LIAT IS GOING BANKRUP WE BETTER PREPARE FOR THE NEXT FESTIVAL. WE NEED OUR OWN AIRLINE. WE ALREADY HAVE LOCAL PILOT WORKING AT LIAT.
Liat has had some diabolical staff members givin service for many years. I mean, the things that some of these people have said to paying customers have been ridiculous. I don’t only blame them, I do also blame bad training by liat, or the lack of training. However training does not give one common courtesy. The staff at liat have contributed as much to the demise of the airline as top management. Now, these same people who refused to give customers the most basic respect and manners are the same ones trying to hold on to their jobs. Personally, I think the face of liat, those we meet everyday, those that do the check ins, those who inform you of delays of flights, bags, and tell you to f off are the ones responsible for custom moving towards he competition. We are accustomed to our late flight and late baggage arrivals, but the rudeness and insults from staff, one can never tolerate. So, if the staff wants to start blaming, look in the mirror. I hope a lesson has been learnt.
nothing new this has being in the pipeline a few years now…most of the bigger airlines have contracted most of the operations out..
soon their will be self check ins at airports in the caribbean, sad but reality, the cost of running airlines is extremely expensive these days..
liat indeed does need to soul search they have some managers who just dont get it period througout the region, a clean up of the LIAT could be the best advice of medicine for it…
Liat has maybe if one of the best safety records global in the aviation industry, hats off the their engineers and mechanics..
but went i came to their admin in terms of direction and proffessionalism it hit rock bottom just like windies cricket…the failure to be firm and call things as they are to be called..maybe its a caribbean virus which makes us weak because of the small region everyone knows someone aspects…
Whatever LI does ti its employees tgey deserves, both sides are unprofessional
Are we still living in the 60’s? How can a company simply decide to hold a meeting with short notice to terminate its own staff, when the staff themselves are requesting that you (The Company) listen to their future plans to save all and sundry. The plans and ideas of the staff members seemed very well said and thought of. Why is it so hard for LIAT to for once listen to the wider public, instead of simply going forth with whatever plans that “management” has come up with?
Maybe LIAT means this:
L: Listening
I: Inadequacy
A: Abruptly
T: Terminates
its ironic that his last name is challenger and with his challenging stubbornness he chose to go forward with the meeting, even with the absents of the trade union, these guys just do not care about people, lovely transparent attitude he has right,he needs to be fired.
Who is runnin g this airline then? Challenger or the unions? They’ve had it too cushy for too long.
