LIAT workers paid to end Grenada go-slow

ST. GEORGE’S, Grenada, Friday August 5, 2011 – LIAT has resumed full service to and from Grenada after workers yesterday voted to end a crippling week-and-a-half go-slow, with the news that they would get a fraction of the EC$6 million (US$2.2 million) owed in overtime pay and meal allowances from as far back as 1983.

But president of the Technical Allied Workers Union (TAWU) Senator Chester Humphrey has insisted that the battle is not over.

He says the EC$500,000 (US$185,185) – which will be paid in tranches from the middle of this month to the end of November – did not buy an end to the workers’ agitation for what is owed them. The matter is going to arbitration.

DNO wow! This is what you call professional news reporting work.Reading this story painted a clear picture on what went on in Grenada. We were able to see an adequate, functioning, non-bias government interested in the citizens of Grenada without violation of their rights. The Prime Minister and others Ministers of his cabinet worked closely with all involved and showed their ability, quality and willingness to serve their own while representing their office. To the president of the Technical Allied Workers Union Senator Chester Humphrey, Sir you are admired by many. You and your tea sir continue to do what you do best.To the news edition, reporting of Kari Fm and DBS on this matter was unclear(POOR).If one was not following the events in Grenada via other news media, listening to the above mentioned station one would not known there was a strike by the LIAT employees and the effects and efforts of all involved and be appreciative of the fact that the strike came to an amicable end.To the radio stations so directly associated with their country and with so much to work with drop the bias politics and teach the citizens that listen to you.Give the news and allow people to think, dissect and learn.Folks with increase technology listen and read news items from different sources.Citizens of the Commonwealth Of Dominica ask that your minds be opened and your vision be enhanced so you can get adequate information to make the best decision in all that you do especially in selection of your representatives to public office.Only then will you have a fair fight with good results and stand with each other and your rights will be respected.

Be patient my people, I may not be around to enjoy it but our children will. Ants will bring the news for us in our graves. LIAT’S monopoly within the Caribbean Islands is inching closer to an end. Lets just pray that the other airlines get all the support and licenses that they require to fly and soon we will have choices.

Wait you see BVI Airways flying into DOminica straight from the BVI? Non stop One hour! All that time we wasting there in Antigua is out of the question for me! Let them put in the flight more often than 3 days and all you will see what will happen to Liat and their Dominica customers!
