Prime Minister Kamla Persad Bissessar Sunday night said that President George Maxwell Richards will issue a proclamation declaring a limited state of emergency in “hot spots” across the country from midnight, as her administration battles to deal with an upsurge in criminal activities that included the murder of 11 people over a 48 hour period.

Speaking at a news conference held at her private home at Phillipine, south of here, Persad Bissessar, flanked by members of her Cabinet, said that other details relating to the limited state of emergency, such as the emergency powers and the times of the curfew will be announced on Monday.

A state of emergency to fight crime? Whats really happening is outright abuse of human rights of the most vunerable in the TT society, the poor, least educated.
My greatest fear that the government begins to expand this action to further repress free expression and thougnt particulary from thier opponents Finally, the local media , with very few exception appear to suppport the retrograde action. Whats next?

Good move against crime in that Country. She needs all the support she can get from fellow Caricom leaders. She needs to also tighten her personal security because some of the bad guys will not take that proclamation well.

She must support other CARICOM countries when they suffer with hurricanes like Saint Lucia. You remember what this woman, the scum of the earth said?

So many murders in so many islands in the not-too-distant past: Dominica, St. Kitts, and now this madness in T & T. What’s going on here?

Don’t forget St Lucia also. It’s all about the bad things about American television that has spoilt the once peaceful region of the caribbean. Our governments just don’t get it.

The world spent trillions to destroy communism and to institute a dog eat dog system of “free market capitalism”. They want peace but they do not invest in justice and equality. They will deprive your kids an education, health care and a school lunch to amass personal wealth to buy themselves extra toys like a 200-foot yacht and a private leer jet.

There’s nothing wrong in amassing legitimate wealth. Those who lay you off just days before your benefits, vacation or pension kick in; or replace trained, experienced employees with cheap undocumented workers or ship their factories and jobs overseas to exploit $2 an hour labour and unregulated pollution are contributing to an unjust society. Capital does not respect labour as a partner. The little gains made by trade unions are rapidly taken away. If we focus on the least of our brothers, the world will be a better place.

Madame, why all these noise and state of emergencies? Take these people to the gallows and problem solve. Action speaks louder than words.Don’t you all understand that nothing will stop at these thugs until they have a date with the hangman? All these state of emergencies and curfews mean nothing, absolutely nothing. They are a waste of time.
