Outgoing Chief Justice of the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court (ECSC) Hugh Rawlins cited personal reasons for his decision to demit office come July 31 after five years in the position and an overall 12 years as a judge.
An emotional Justice Rawlins said the time is nigh to devote the same time to his family as he did the region as a legal practitioner.
He said the fact that he spends most of his time travelling between courts in the nine territories and as such is away from his wife most of the time, he would rather not continue doing so.
The chief justice said he spends most nights away from home preparing for a court hearing in another territory and he often wonders about his wife’s well-being and what would happen should she fall ill when no one was there.
Justice Rawlings thanks for serving our region. Justice Edwards you too, you were my mentor both teachers to me. Enjoy the retirement.
