One in four Caribbean men bisexual – survey

Almost one in four Caribbean men today describe themselves as bisexual, a new study suggests.

The preliminary findings of the regionwide Caribbean Men’s Internet Survey (CARIMIS) are in stark contrast to the Caribbean’s traditional image of a macho society with sparse tolerance for homosexuality.

“We have a fair population in the Caribbean that identify as bisexual. Across the entire sample … about 20 to 23 per cent say they are bisexual,” facilitator of the CARIMIS project and director of UNAIDS, Caribbean Regional Support Team, Ernest Massiah said.

One in four Caribbean men describe themselves as bi-sexual? This does not mean one in four men in the Caribbean have ever had – or want to have – sex with a man. I suspect it means one in four admit that at some time they have felt sexual arousal towards a man. It is easy to understand a man interpreting this as being “bi-sexual”. Those who would publish this kind of a survey are working to gain greater public acceptance of homosexuality. It is a small part of a much larger agenda. The Caribbean islands have always embraced traditional moral values. The homosexual perversion is coming from the States through the tourists and the influence of liberal media. Now we have President Obama using his ambassadors and diplomats to scold sovereign self governing nations for not recognizing gay rights. Not only is this a departure from protocol but it is dowright rude. To add injury to insult he is threatening to use foreign aid money to further gay causes in countries that are resisting change. A president who has no more respect than this for the wishes expressed by he governments of other democratic nations should be considered dangerous. Worse still is Prime Minister Cameron in the UK saying that the UK will withold financial assistance to those nations that refuse to legalize same sex marriage. They take this position with no risk to themselves because the UN is cheering them on encouraging the “have” nations to refuse financial aid to the “have not” nations that refuse to further gay rights. This is happening at a time when we are trying to eliminate bullying among our students and youth in the western world. Yet Obama and Cameron are giving us a demonstration of the very worst kind of bullying on an international scale that will affect millions now and in generations to come. It does not require great discernment to recognize that what we are seeing is not a natural shaping of events as history is being made. Something sinister is happening here. The homosexual or gay “revolution” is being energized and driven forward by an intelligent and powerful entity – a satanic force. It may seem too much to expect governments now to put the brakes on and say “enough is enough”. But a chance remains if those who are knowledgeable and care will take a stand and speak up. Much of the responsibility falls upon the church and Christian ministries to provide the facts about homosexuality for government officials and voters so intelligent decisions can be made. This is why I recommend the reading of HOMOSEXUALITY AND THE POLITICS OF TRUTH by Dr. Jeffrey Satinover, M.D. Dr. Satinover has practiced psychiatry for over 20 years. He has taught in Yale University and Harvard University. This book can be ordered from AMAZON, the world’s largest online bookseller. Gay activists will never cease telling lies and distorting the truth to scare polititians into thinking that their numbers are much larger than they are. Years ago they came out with a “study” showing that eight percent of the population was gay. This claim was discredited. A later and more scientific study showed the actual number was no higher than three percent and maybe lower. We encouage you to find out where your polititians stand on the same sex marriage issue. Don’t wait until election time Be prepared. If THEY don’t want to make it an issue YOU make it and issue! Vote for the candidates who stand for what is right. It’s your country. They are the ones who will decide the future of your children. Sincerely, Rev. Donald Hill. Pentecostal Evangelist. http://www.livinghopeministries.ca

I am Bi-Sexual and think that the survey is results are flawed. The survey only targeted men who have sex with men (The Gay, Bi-Sexual and Transgender Commnity) It did not target Heterosexual men or Straight men as they prefer to be called.

The survey result should iinstead read, one in four men who have sex with men also have sex with women. These are the Bi-Sexual men who were interviewed.

This survey was clearly an attempt to forward the Gay Agenda in the Caribbean. I have many friends, and less than 1% are Gay or Bi-Sexual, so as a Bi_sexual Man, I wish to request that this report be recalled since it is wrong… DEAD WRONG AND MISLEADING TO THE PUBLIC…Huh, if we want to carry the Gay/Bi-Sexual/Transgender Agenda… why should we lie and manipulate information to try to get our message across, we will only cause people to distrust us more…   :?:

well i have 1 dad, 2 bros, 2 nephews, a granddad, a boyfriend and many male friends……they all said they didnt participate in any survey so i dunno where DNO and CARMIS came to such conclusion…..

    • July 19, 2013

Tell me About It: Two things should be said.

      (1) The stats from the survey are one thing. But as I expained in my comments the problem is probably in what the organization that sponsored the survey reads into the stats and how the stats are interpreted. One in four men may be admitting that a some time he felt a twinge of sexual excitement towards another male. This does not mean the man is a bi-sexual.

      (2) People who want a survey that will prove a point or give them what they need to build a case know how to do that kind of survey. They target the people most apt to give them results they want! In this case we are told the people studied were men who had sex with other men (homo, bi, trans). It’s not surprising then that one in four claimed to be bi-sexual.

Regardless of how legit it appears the purpose of these studies is usually to provide stats they can offer governments in the battle for gay “rights” and “equality”.

Sincerely, Rev. Donald Hill. Pentecostal Evangelist.

one thing is clear man believes in God which he cannot see…. we believe in the capacity for mans GOODNESS…..but we must remember that within man (WHICH WE CAN BELIEVE IN SINCE WE CAN SEE MAN) lies the EQUAL CAPACITY to do just as much evil…

we pray for god to deliver us from the trap, the snare of the fowler…… who is it who is laying the trap??? is it a little red man with wings and horns??? or is it MEN MORE POWERFUL THAN OURSELVES WHO WE ARE ASKING HIM TO DELIVER US FROM??????

so silly are we to think that the lineage of power from greece, rome, egypt and elsewhere have just up and disappeared…. they have not….the have enlightened us to disillusion. they always have the SECRETS…..only they know where the snare is laid….. beware of secrets…..astronomy, astrology, science, mathematics, psychology…these things were hidden from us, used to manipulate and control man, regardless of race, nationality or creed…

UNAIDS Caribbean wishes to debunk a news story circulating in the regional media over the last 24 hours under the headline “One in every four Caribbean men bisexual”. The story’s claim that a UNAIDS study found that quarter of the region’s men are bisexual, is misleading and of no merit.

The Caribbean Men’s Internet Survey—the first ever online study of men who have sex with men (MSM) in the region—has not yet been finalised as country-specific data are currently being analysed. Of the overall sample (of MSM who responded to the survey), 23 percent declared themselves to be bisexual. This is far different from one in four Caribbean men being bisexual as suggested in the story. Additionally, the sample size of the survey was 3,566 and not 2,566 as the report stated.

Findings will be finalised by the end of October 2012 and will be released to the regional media directly through the UNAIDS Caribbean Regional Support Team. For factual information on the study methodology and preliminary findings please visit http://www.unaidscaribbean.org

      @ Cedriann

Whatever, it is nothing to be proud of. They need God in their lives. Those who are also bisexual are not genuinely loving and sincere people. If they are married people (men or women), they made a vow to be faithful but are incapable of fulfilling it. The single ones are also incapable of fidelity. None can be trusted. They are deceivers. The devil has their souls.
They cannot control their evil temptation and urge. This type of lifestyle leads to nowhere. It is a cul-de-sac and will also lead to additional unhappiness. In some cases, it is the cause of suicide.

      @ Again?

Ever thought of it? DNO wants to hear our opinion. As in every situation, there are pros and cons and various opinions.
Someone or a group may have asked DNO to post it. Furthermore, DNO posts what people are interested in, pro and con. Keep in mind, some people are for it and others are against it with the latter denouncing it. Polls/ surveys could be necessary. They serve a useful purpose. In this era it is something we have to get accustomed to. As the world progresses and some people in it are godless and others become more godless, I fear the worst is yet to come. Today, look at what it has come to, people entering into a relationship with the same sex and marrying them. It is shocking and disappointing. It is a bad precedent for especially the youth.
Governments do not listen to the people who oppose this abomination. Those governments who legislated it are not smart ones. They have already condemned themselves. Consider how God feels about that, how offended He is and what will happen to them, their souls in time.
Pray for them and those who participate in this abomination that they do not perish eternally. All of us must pray. I am certain that some have already perished and there will be more to come for this is not a lifestyle that God approves of and will never bless. It goes against His commands, teaching, expectations of the human race and His plans for humanity that man and woman should marry and multiply the earth. Anyone who thinks and acts otherwise has a mortal and spiritual impediment.

I think the headline should read, “One in four Caribbean men bisexual according to a concentrated research.” It is wrong to make a broad conclusion that reads “One in four Caribbean men bisexual,” unless the researchers reached ALL Caribbean men, and I don’t think that will ever happen. How much money was spent on this research? I know a few Caribbean women who would appreciate some of that research money to feed the kids of some of those bisexual men!!

    • HATE
      August 17, 2012

Clearly you have no knowledge of Statistical Modelling and research reporting.

    • June 20, 2013

Since the study did not include every man in the Caribbean it included only a percentage of them. Ths is why statistics even when gathered by a reputable researcher or company can’t be trusted to tell the whole story. We always have to look closer and see who was targeted. This is even more true when whoever did the study had a particular bias or vested interest in the results. I suspect some of the so-called “one in four” were men who were admitting that at some time in their childhood they experienced a momentary twinge of sexual excitement towards a male playmate. These feelings are part of growing up and rarely acted upon. At any rate they are not what makes a male a bisexual! The subjects who are used in a survey mean everything. And the choice of subjects depends entirely on the researcher or whoever is financing the survey. These are the last things he public will hear. This is why scientific studies must pass peer review by fellow scientists who have a healthy scepticism and hopefully are not driven by the same agenda. More than one scientific study has been later discredited after having been published in a professional journal. We need to look even more closely now because homosexual lobby groups are beginning to put forth “studies” proving there is a “gay gene”, or biological basis for homosexuality. Some of their early work has already been discedited by later studies. Christians who believe their Bibles can stand upon the Word of God which Jesus said is “for ever settled in heaven.” The harder unbelievers work to promote errors and justify their sinful ways the more confident we can afford to be because we know we are not going to have to change anything. We’ll be still telling the world what the Bible says – and how it changed our lives – when they are talking about the latest “scientific” discovery that has just disproven the previous one, and are rewriting the textbooks for he next generation. But let’s get back to the One in Four survey and consider where it came from.

Who was included in the study? It seems to have been only homosexual men. If so, what we have is one in four homosexual men admitting they are bi! But we should ask ourselves “What kind of mem would participate in this kind of survey? Would it not be those most likely to have liberal views towards homosexuality? I expect so.

Either way it is hardly a scientific sampling of the men of the Caribbean. I’m sure many like myself who have spent considrable time in the islands did not get this impression of the men we associated with. But then, I was in churches, not in the clubs. Sincerely, Rev. Donald Hill. Pentecostal Evangelist.

What do you mean it is not as widespread? Are you sleeping? The big countries started it with those homosexuals and lesbians coming out of the closet. We never realized that there were so many of them in one country and in the entire world. Then, it spread to smaller countries with those people of the countries also wanting to be recognized and to have their parade.

    • September 26, 2013

What is repulsive about same sex people having sex is this:

      (1) It is forbidden by the Holy Scriptures.

      (2) The church has comdemned it for 2,000 years.

      (3) For hundreds of years countries with a Christian heritage have had laws against it.

      (4) Percentage wise homosexuals have more mental health issues, a higher rate of alchoholism, and a higher suicide rate.

      (5) Homosexuals tend to have a shorter lifespan.

      (6) Studies have shown that in Dominica the one group of people with the highest percentage of AIDS is male homosexuals. I recently saw these stats. I suspect it is the same in other nations but I haven’t seen their stats lately.

It will be pointed out that AIDS is spreading among straight women. This is true. But the disease is passed on by bi-sexual boyfriends, or boyfriends or husbands on the “downlow”.

      (7) In big Canadian and American cities gay men cruise the parks, bars, and baths looking for a one night stand or a quick encounter. This is what keeps these gay businesses going. Often the men don’t even get the name of their “date”. It is not unusual for a homosexual male to have hundreds of sexual partners in a lifetime without any of them leading to a significant relationship.

      (8) Observation tells us that this is not the same romance experienced by a man and a woman. It is not the tender loving relationship enjoyed in a heterosexual marriage. Nobody knows this any better than those who have broken free from homosexuality and are now in a straight marriage.

      (9) It is obvious that homosexuality is unatural (not the way the creator planned it) because two men do not have the anatomy to have sexual intercourse. The way they improvise is repulsive.

      (10) Buggery (anal sex) is practiced by most homosexuals. It is in itself an unclean practice often resulting in injury or infection. I say this because I have seen medical reports. It is not recommended for heterosexual couples either.

Homosexuality is only one of many sins. It is taken more seriously than some sins because it is “against nature” according to Romans 1:26, and it is contrary to the model God gave us for marriage according to Matthew 19:4-6.

We believe all sinners (including myself) and can be forgiven. The blood of Jesus Christ will cleanse us. (Colossians 1:12-14) It begins when we stop making excuses and accept the responsibility for our wrong doings. (1 John 1:7-10) Then we must believe in Jesus Christ. (St. John 3:16) and receive Him as our Saviour. (Revelation 3:20)

SDincerely, Rev. Donald Hill. Pentecostal Evangelist.

No matter what we may say people being bisexual affects everyone of us because the person our partner is going with may have another partner and the list goes on and on until it hits home. This is also how people contract AIDS. Today, they call it a Virus and, as usual are watering-down the seriousness of it. Some Virus. It is a deadly one – a slow death. The best way to find out is to ask your partner. Makes sense doesn’t it? That partner may not be able to hide his feelings, his true self. Another way to find out is to contract an investigator to follow him around. You will really find out for sure.

Editor, 23% of the people surveyed reported they were bi sexual. That means that one in four men who have sex with men consider themselves bi sexual ie they also have sex with women. This does not imply anything about the prevalence of bisexuals in the entire caribbean male population. Both your article and headline are highly misleading.

DNO, your headline & story is not totally accurate – or misleading, in the least. The 1 in 4 percentage was drawn out of a sample of “Men who have sex with men” or “gay” men, as they are commonly known. So the headline should read: One in four Gay Caribbean men also have sex with women. NOT: “One in four Caribbean men bisexual – survey”. The sample specifically surveyed Gay men – not Caribbean men.

  29. Anti-hate
    August 16, 2012

So I read the original article. DNO’s headline is simply incorrect!! The article doesn’t imply that 1 in 4 Caribbean men are bi. Instead, the study was conducted amongst GAY MEN, 25% of whom claimed to be bi-sexual. From the original article:

The CARIMIS study is being touted as the “largest sample” of the Caribbean MSM (men who have sex with men) population of its kind, done via Internet—surveying 2,560 men throughout 33 territories in the region.

I hear big drug dealers are in that, prominent business men and even those that are notorious woman chasers are in that too using women as a smoke screen.
Stick to the side of the fence that makes you happy, bi sexual is not a reality, they re just fooling themselves bacause man or woman you’re still gay.

That gay and bisexual business starting to annoy me. I really don’t care who is gay or bisexual it’s their preference. But I just wish that they would stop trying to push it on everyone else. How come I don’t see surveys sayin the number of heteosexuals as compared to gays or bisexuals? Or what percentage is straight in the population? Gay and bisexual people will not be seen to be normal unless they themselves believe that they are normal. It seems they are trying to prove to everyone, including themselves that their lifestyle is ok. And guess what? It is! It is you choice how you live. But stop tryin to convince me and every other straight person. WE DO NOT CARE. Would you care if everywhere you turned I was saying I’m straight? No, it would annoy you after a while. Jus go out there and live.

Dear The Truth, I suspect that you are genuine about your comment, but it is like keeping your social problems out of sight so that it is out of mind. Within our society some people are hurting because they are different, and if they do not speak out people will not know of the anguish/discrimination/unequal treatment that they receive from the majority, and it is our responsibility to understand the situation and to deal with it with the view of amicably including them in our communities. This is what a ‘Civilized’ Nation does. If we do not do this, these concerns of non inclusion will fester and will become real problems of division in the nation. This is the reason for Equal Rights/Human Rights for all, to prevent these problems and to allow everyone to live healthy and fulfilled lives… Social Harmony.

They have also imbeded themselves in all high places in American society. For instance just check the US television shows compared to only 10 years ago, over 65% in syndication now contain/include a gay story line. Their strategy is paying off. On the matter of population control, the more we over populate the world, the more homosexuals will be born, but because of our stupidity, we will continue to hide behind wives and have children while the situaion will continue perpetuating itself.

live and let live, let people be what they want to be,they are grown people who decided what sexuality they are. as long as they are not inflicting it on children,,,..

    • Dingleberry
      August 15, 2012

These people raise children and the children will grow up following the lifestyle they see at home. These day people will only be teaching the kids to go that way, because for them, it is the way. And these childewn are going to indoctrinate other children into that life style.
It is a really a sad situation.

Is it possible for the “straight” children to indoctrinate the “gay”ones?

        August 16, 2012

Please explain to me how heterosexual couples have gay children. Your statement is moot. I visit Dominica quite frequently and I am surprised at how many women are bisexual. Not only are they bisexual, but they are very aggressive in their approach to other women. I am speaking from experience. Talk to some gay men and you’ll get an idea of how many men have families and/or women and are sleeping with other men. There is nothing new under the sun. This has been around forever. People are just more open about it right now. I think the survey is on point.

      August 16, 2012

That’s a selfish and stupid statement. Yes, people are grown and can decide what sexuality they want to choose but at the same time they should keep in mind STDs are rampant and most times the ones who contract it are the innocent ones (the faithful ones).

        August 17, 2012

(.)(.), that’s why we all have to take individual responsibility for our sexual health. You can’t leave it up to another person because chances are he/she is not being honest about his/her health. Blessings.

      August 15, 2012

You clearly do not understand how statistics work. Your friends are a select group, barring the possibility that they may indeed be bisexual unknown to you, the 1/4 wouldn’t apply directly to a group of 4. It’s just a way of saying that that is the general ratio of distribution in the population.

No survey findings can change this truth!

The right to be gay is not a human right, the right to life is! All you trying to decieve the world with your freethinking to accept this nonsense and propaganda.

        Deuteronomy 22: 23 -24
If a damsel [that is] a virgin be betrothed unto an husband, and a man find her in the city, and lie with her; Then ye shall bring them both out unto the gate of that city, and ye shall stone them with stones that they die; the damsel, because she cried not, [being] in the city; and
the man, because he hath humbled his neighbour’s wife: so thou shalt put away evil from among you.

lol, bro, do you hear yourself? You sound like you ought to be at the Council of Trent. Believe it or not, there are *actually* people in Dominica who just, well, don’t care that much about what gay people do, as long as they don’t try to hit on us. We don’t believe in this “evil” you speak of and just try to live good, decent lives, and we try to keep ourselves as educated as possible about issues in the world, like this. So, you know, we don’t come off sounding all medieval like you.

But if you want to try to actually make an argument, come at me, bro.

If you support people to simply live like animals without any higher divine purpose you are really deluding yourself with your pseudo-intelligence.

Who are you calling a lunatic? Only a lunatic would support a man inserting his privates in another’s rectum, in the name of “consenting adults” etc.

      • Freethinker
        August 16, 2012

Live “like” animals? My dear sir, we ARE animals. Get it straight. But at least you implicitly acknowledge that homosexuality occurs in the wider animal kingdom, unlike most of the crazies who think humans “invented” it or some such silliness.

And nope, I don’t believe in any divine purpose. Or anything divine at all. I’m just me, living my life and trying to be a good person. No need to bring in any religion. I don’t want gays hitting on me, no, but if they did, so what? I know they are human beings like me, and love is love, so why deny them that right?

At the end of the day, if there is a god and God really is love, I know which one of us God will support more.

      • داوود عبد الرحمن
        August 17, 2012

What kind of animal? A skunk? A pig? So sir, I am not an animal, I have faculties of reason, decision making power and spiritual ethics. Animals operate mainly on instincts.

What has happened to you “Freethinker” is that you deny your spiritual nature thus all you leave now is for the pleasures of the flesh like a pig or a skunk. Thus you have been debased like an animal.

I’ll share with you a chapter from the Noble Quran. Reflect on that if you can.

In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.

WE HAVE INDEED CREATED MAN IN THE BEST OF MOULDS
THEN DO WE ABASE HIM (TO BE) THE LOWEST OF THE LOW.
Except such as believe and do righteous deeds: for they shall have a reward unfailing
Then what can, after this, contradict you, as to the judgement (to come)?
Is not Allah the Greatest of Judges?

        Chapter 95:4-8
