St. Vincent Prime Minister says citizenship not for sale

KINGSTOWN, St. Vincent, CMC – The St. Vincent and the Grenadines government says it will not permit the sale of passports as an inducement to get foreigners to invest in the country.

Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves told Parliament on Friday that his administration would no longer engage in the practice and would resist any attempts to do so.

A number of Eastern Caribbean countries had embarked on the citizenship scheme as a means of luring foreign investment to their countries.

When you think about it, the concept is flawed. Why would a serious investor want citizenship of a third world country? Let’s take DIGICEL, LIME, KUBULI for example, no request for citizenship there. Good for SVG they have a PM who can think.

That the kind of leader i love . Way to go svg. I wish my pm in { Dominica} would take the same stand on the matter. Invest first , citizenship after five years. Naturalization after three – five years based on your nose being kept clean.

doesnt take a phd to see how stupid of an idea that was. I wouldnt mind awarding a path to citizenship for foreign investors after 10yrs or so of continued business inside the country.. but oh well
