Prime Minister Honourable Allen Chastanet has called for prayers and support for the families of those affected by an explosion which occurred in the Cul de Sac area on Tuesday evening (March 21st).
Several people have been killed and many injured.
Speaking from the Victoria Hospital where several of the injured were taken following the incident Prime Minister Chastanet said: “Our hearts go out to those who lost loved ones and those who are still waiting to find out information about their family members. You are all in our prayers in this difficult time. We must all support each other at this time and pray for our fellow Saint Lucians.
“We must say thanks to the emergency personnel, the police and fire officers, who responded to the incident and who are still working tirelessly into the night at the site to find persons. The staff, the nurses and doctors, of the Victoria Hospital, who responded, some without being called and who are working overtime to attend to the injured must be thanked for their selfless dedication in the wake of this crisis. We should be so proud of all the staff and emergency response persons. This is testimony to what we can do as a people if we work together.”
The Prime Minister added that this incident has taken the nation by shock and expressed profound grief over the loss of life.
I visualize how horrible this incident is. Lives lost and some injured. The pain, suffering and grief are immense.
We mourn with our St. Lucian neighbors. I know some of them who reside in Ontario. We are hurting for those who have been injured.
What else can be stated except to pray for all those who are affected? May God comfort them including their family.
This is a tragedy which calls for the comforting words on behalf of those have survived– all in all.
This is a day we ask “where do we go from here” this is a day we most definitely need the hands of God Almighty the Lord in Christ Jesus, to touch us with His Supernatural Ointment of Love, in its form of Peace.
Our call right now, is to ask God to pull us out from this darkness and pain, into His Light of comfort, by His Strength, which is made “Perfect” in our weakness. By His Grace in Love, we are destined to pull through from our World of darkness, grief, pain, and sorrows, right into His Light, Comfort, Relief, and Enlightenment.
O God of Love and Holiness, the grieving people of St. Lucia are calling out to You, right now, from the depths of darkness and every state of grief, suffering, distress and despair that comes with it.
I pray that You, our Lord, are hearing their voices; I pray that You are receiving their words of distress and despair; I pray, dear God, that You are willing, and is already showering them with Your Grace of compassion and comfort
O Lord, let the survivors of this tragedy–Family, close relatives, and friends know Your Peace, through this terrible tribulation; give them Your hope, O God, to tell them that things are going to be alright. for this I pray on their behalf. Receive me for their sake, in the name of Christ Jesus, Your Person in Love. Amen!
A St. Lucian who works at my establishment has indicated to me that information reaching him states that someone was actually at the time doing some welding work to a shipping container which held dynamite,,,,I can’t verify that information.
Airlift to Martinique? Aa they doing it too?
They have to Airlift to Martinique too nuh,boy they follow fashion wee, because others does do it they doing it too or it happens also in St.Lucia and other countries.
You sound and even write like you ignorant
Airlift happening only in Dominican. Ignoramus
Such sad news. Praying for those affected.
Terrible news! May the families be comforted during this time. May those who survived recover fully and those who have passed rest eternally in peace. Prayers for our sister island.
Whilst I support praise and thanks for police, fire fighters and other emergency personnel, they are doing their job, right and getting paid. However those who clean our streets and work at jobs where they take the abuse if the public daily, don’t seem to matter much. I pray that there isn’t too much carnage.

You could have saved this comment for a more appropriate time; there has to be a time that a negative person should be able to conceal that darkness of their mind at least for a few hours; don’t you think so?
This happens when you have illiterates working around dangerous tools…My sympathy goes out top their loved ones
oh lord praying for St. Lucia
Apparently workers at a quarry were welding a container, which had dynamite in it. I wonder how safely our quarries store their explosives.

Thanks for your post and the pictures….very helpful.
DNO … this story is so incomplete.
What caused the explosion?
Where exactly is Cul-de-Sac
More details pls….
i have to agree with you..i had to read the comments to find out what really happened.. at first reading the article i thought someone planted a bomb or something
Generally, Cul-de-Sac means a dead end. The end of a road/street could be a cul-de-sac; impassable. From one end of the street, when you drive to that point, you can drive no further but to turn back.
Unless they gave the area the name of Cul-de-Sac. It is a French name for end – dead end as previously stated.
I just remembered something which still makes me laugh. We were driving from a funeral service, on our way to the cemetery in Toronto. The driver of the car was talking on his cell phone. He missed the procession and ended up in a cul-de-sac. The car still had the funeral poster. There were a few cars behind us who were also at the funeral.
A man who was in front of his house shook his head and laughed. Obviously we had to turn back and try to find the cemetery. We eventually did. I hope that driver is not reading this. That is, if he remembers.
All the same this accident in St. Lucia is a serious one and shocking for the nationals.
How with what
Mr. Prime Minister and my Friends of St Lucia, I would like to take this opportunity to express my condolences to you and Families at this time of your “Grief”, our prayers and best wishes are with you.
One is only able to grief much, when one loves much!
May God continue to bless and guide.
