Belief in Allah

This article aims to present Islam in its pristine teachings. We will look at the belief, textual proofs and rational proofs.

Allah is simply the arabic way of refering to the Supreme Diety of the Universe. Jews and Christians who revere scriptures in Arabic refer to the Most High as Allah.

A Muslim believes in Allah the Most High, that is he believes in the existence of the Lord, and that it is He who originated the heavens and the earth, that He knows the seen and the unseen as well. He is the Lord and Sovereign of all creatures, none has the right to be worshiped except Him, and there is no true Lord except Him. All of His attributes are perfect. He is free of any deficiency whatsoever.

In the Holy Quran Allah informs us about Himself, about His existence, Lordship over all creatures, and His names and attributes. Such form of information can be found in His Noble Book, “Very, I am Allah. There is no god but I. So worship Me and establish worship for My remembrance.” (Chapter Ta-Ha 20:14)

Additionally, the information from one hundred and twenty-four thousand prophets and messengers of Allah confirming the existence, and the Lordship of Allah over all creatures, His creation of all creatures, His disposal of their affairs and about the names and attributes. Each of these prophets and messengers were either directly spoken to by Allah through one (the angel) sent to him, or by inspiring the revelation Allah willed into his heart.

Thirdly, the proclamation of such a great number of the purest of servants and noblest of humans makes it impossible either to belie their proclamation, or to imagine that they would agree to fabricate such information. Thereby conveying to their people information that they did not know for sure, or not believing in its correctness with certainty. This is especially so, if we know that they (The prophets and Messengers) are the best of servants, purest of souls, the most reasonable thinkers and the truest in speech.

Rationally, the existence of the different universes and the many categories of creatures testifies to the existence of their Creator who is Allah the All Mighty. For none but Allah the All Mighty has claimed to have created the universe and what it contains. Reason rejects the idea that anything could come into existence on its own, even the simplest of things for example, like food served without one preparing it, or a bedding prepared without one preparing it. Then, what about this awesome expansive universe of heavens and all that is in them? The sun, the moon, the stars and planets – are all entirely different in volume, mass, distance and orbit.

Another point is the earth and all the creatures it contains, the humans, jinns (a different kind of spirit apart from angels), animals, the diverse species, completely different in color, languages, their abilities to reason and understand. The deposits of gems and metals of various colors and uses, the oceans and rivers; the rivers made to flow through the earth and the oceans make to surround it; the growth of trees and plants producing such a variety of fruits and so many different tastes, scents, characteristics and uses.

In short based on such textual and rational proofs, the Muslim believes in Allah the All Mighty, His Lordship over everything, and in His divinity. On such concrete basis of belief and faith, all aspects of the Muslim life are molded.

To those who criticize islam, on the bases of false beliefs, indoctrination, or it’s oppressive nature, how different is it from Christianity which the people of Dominica ready absorb?

Yes. Had the slaves of the Caribbean been taught Islam instead, they would in all likelihood be attacking Christianity. Had they been taught Hinduism, they would likely be Hindus today.

The fact is that people tend to stick with what they were taught from young, especially if there are dangers to believing otherwise or if there is little opportunity for learning other worldviews. And yet, people still indirectly or directly choose what not to believe at the same time. They are atheists about Zeus and Wotan and Isis, for instance, in the sense that they reject their existence. In fact, all monotheistic religions are atheistic about all gods besides the one they worship, which makes the resistance to more general questioning of deities seem rather absurd and unfair.

Questioning is a good thing, but too many people literally have been told they will suffer eternal torture if they do, which is a sad state of affairs, indeed. People need to make their own decisions, not be forced to believe what others tell them to.

The difference is Jesus Christ who died and rose again so that mankind can be saved from sin and hell.

I thank you for taking the time to post something like this in a manner that does not attack others, but you’ll have to do a better job if you want to convince or convert anyone.

For one, the idea of using “textual proof” to prove the existence of something is tricky. If this textual proof can be supported by more concrete evidence (treaties confirming a war occurred, skeletons of warriors precisely where a supposed war occurred, etc.), we can begin looking at the text as an accurate document. However, in the case of deities, we have never found such evidence. If we had, there would be no discussion like this; deities would be in the realm of science like everything else. Because we have no evidence, and because we have natural explanations for virtually all things that were once ascribed to deities, and because deities are supernatural things that defy science as we currently know it, scientists treat such things as unlikely to exist. Textual “proof,” therefore, is not enough.

Here is another reason textual proof is not enough. The existence of many mythical creatures, like dragons and unicorns, is attested to in many ancient texts. Marco Polo himself claimed to have seen both in his travel writings, and both are depicted frequently in medieval paintings and tapestries. But does this therefore mean they exist? Of course not. It means that people believed they did, and so the texts “prove” that they did–but under closer inspection, what really occurred? They made up stories, hallucinated, or saw a similar creature (like a rhinoceros) and believed that IT was a unicorn (not knowing what a rhino was as yet, though the rhino looked different from what they expected). So, just because something is in a text does not make it true, especially in a text from many centuries ago in a time when people did not understand much about the natural processes of the world.

Your rational proofs now. Firstly, you mention “universes.” I assume you made a mistake here. Although many theoretical physicists believe that our universe is but one of many, there is no hard evidence for multiple universes as yet. What you perhaps meant was “galaxies.”

As for the rest of it, there are a number of issues. First, let’s assume a deity did in fact create all that. Why Allah? You give no reason why it HAS to be Allah.

If we back up and then look at how the universe emerged from a scientific view, there are views that the universe in fact can emerge from practically nothing relatively easily, and there are even thought experiments now about how one could “create” a new universe by, for instance, heating up a piece of space to the temperature of the big bang, and it will predictably either turn into a black hole or form a new universe outside our own.

The problem with inserting a creator deity into the picture is that if you do, you may have explained where the universe comes from, but not where the deity comes from. To simply say it was there is not science as we know it at all (though this does not completely rule it out, of course).

Other problems: do you know how large the universe is? Or that it is estimated to be over 13.7 billion years old? When did humans and Mohammed emerge? The Earth is about 4.6 billion years old, and homo sapiens have existed for about 200,000 years, not including our other homo ancestor species. You see the issue? According to this logic, Allah waited billions of years doing nothing, decided to descend upon a little lonely planet, made human beings, waited over 198,000 years doing nothing, and then revealed himself to a lone man in a desert who possibly was suffering from hallucinations. At this point in time, people would hardly be able to tell a hallucination apart from a divine vision, which likely explains the madness of John of Patmos’ Book of Revelations.

And why a little group of evolved apes on one planet out of billions in a universe so vast and largely empty it is almost impossible to comprehend? This doesn’t really make sense.

If you disagree with the evidence, fine. But believe what you like quietly; do not try to impose beliefs that have no proof behind them on others.

Marsh-ala, Marsh-ala. The bible says;” for god so love the world that he sent his only begotten son (Jesus)…..”not prophet Muhammad. Wheel and come again my writer. You need Jesus the son of God in your life immediately to save you from the path of destruction you are heading.
