Evangelical churches to stay away from politics

Bishop Bill Daniel
Bishop Bill Daniel

Reelected president of the Dominica Association of Evangelical Churches (DAEC), Bishop Michael Daniel, has said that the organization will stay away from politics.

“We represent God not a party or any Government, we represent God and that is what we intend to do,” Daniel stated after his election. “Under my reign I will ensure that our churches do that. We obviously do not have full power over churches but I’m sure what will be articulated to our pastors and what was articulated to our pastors is that we stay away from politics and mind things that God has given us to mind.”

He stated that the DAEC will not bow nor be “intimidated by voices of people asking us to do things.”

“We do things in accordance with the scriptures and one of the things I would like to impress on is that the evangelical (church) is not a political voice,” he stated. “We are not a political entity, we are a spiritual entity. We are supposed to give counseling to everyone whether government or opposition or whoever … we are well placed by God to give spiritual leadership and one of the things that our Dominican people will not hear us saying is political statements.”

He said the DAEC will speak on certain things when the need arises, but it will be done ‘wisely’ and its duty is not to bash anybody but to bring peace and healing to the nation.

He pointed out that the church is not as divided as people perceive it to be, but one of the main hindrances of the church is people not attending services and meetings.

He added that the problem does not lie within the membership but pastors need to do a better job at leading and unifying the people.

He said the DAEC is looking forward to a successful two years. “I think we are well poised, the worst is behind us and we are really looking forward to a successful two years as we proceed with the work of the Evangelical Association,” the bishop said.

Other executive members of the association include Pastor Marcus Francis, Anthia Joseph, Sister Munroe, Arlington Wilson, Francois Maxime and Kennedy Dupigy.

Much has happened since this news article and the following comments were posted nearly three years ago. Bishop Daniel is with the Lord now. The nation is deeper in sin, and the churches are praying for a revival.

To all of you who commented on this page let me say this. At the time you wrote our Bishop in Dominica was Bill Daniel. To us he was not “Bill”, and not “pastor”. He was Bishop Daniel. He did not make himself a Bishop. He was appointed Bishop by his brother pastors – his fellow clergy – and that after much prayer and deliberation.

I have seen copies of letters written by our top church leaders in Canada to this outstanding man. They addressed him as “Bishop Daniel”. I am appalled at the lack of respect you showed for a man the church world across and beyond the Caribbean held in such high regard.

Sincerely, Rev. Dr. Donald Hill. Evangelist. Executive Director of Living Hope Ministries.

    Mr. Francisco Telemaque,

I tip my hat to you sir. Yours has been the voice of conventional Godly wisdom in this issue. I am also a Pastor, and I have found that to educate people on the issues of the day in the light of God’s truth( the Bible) is the most essential function with regards to political participation. Ultimately it must not be that that churches engage in telling people what political persuasion they must adhere to. That only serves to divide the church. I can vouch for that, because I’ve seen it happen before in Dominica. The word of God instructs, informs, warns, encourages, enlightens, but ultimately, people must make their own decisions. [They do it with salvation, the most important Life or Death decision] any individual will ever make. They must do the same with politics. If the church follows the pattern of scripture and instructs people, if the people are serious about their commitment to the authority of the word of God, then the church will have adequate representation in the political arena without ever committing itself as a body to one persuasion or another. The decision will then be left to each individual to follow the dictates of his or her God-impacted conscience, and be blessed for doing right, or reap the consequences for wrong doing.

      Pastor Yorke:

Thank you for your well written comments: I think Christians miss being the influemce for righteousness they could be when they don`t understand the proper relationship between church and government.

God has delegated to human goverments the authority to make and enforce righteous laws for the wellbeing of society. We are to obey such laws and support our government according to Romans 13:1-7.

Christians in a democratic nation should know where their political candidates stand on the social issues of the day. They will seek to put in office leaders who honor the Word of God and the nation will prosper.

This will only happen if pastors and other religious leaders speak out against the sins of their day.

If you oppose every evil except the evil that is current you are failling your generation!

I have never believed it is the pastor`s place to endorse a particular political party or recommend a specific candidate. But if he teaches Biblical justice and morality church members will at least be able to make informed choices and they can put in office candidates who stand for righteousness. Spiritual leaders are to be God`s watchmen on the wall warning citizens against endorcing the sins that caused God to destroy civilizations in ancient times.

Sincerely, Rev. Donald Hill. Pentecostal Evangelist..

I love the word of God but I don’t understand why some ministers are not able to stand firm. One time they are for skerritt, another time they are not for one nor the other. Also, they want to impose their own opinion on the members of their church – because they say they are leaders. Come on!!! you opinion is not Bible.

29 But this I say, brethren, the time is short, so that from now on even those who have wives should be as though they had none.

30 Those who weep as though they did not weep, those who rejoice as though they did not rejoice, those who buy as though they did not possess,

31 And those who use this world as not misusing it. For the form of this world is passing away 1st Corinthians 7

Men and women, child and youth of Dominica. What Bishop Danielle is advocating in his message above is the need for you and me to start walking in the “Spirit” as we put on display the attitude and conducts which the Man “Jesus Christ’, taught and demonstrated to mankind when He walked this earth.

Once again the ways of Love–Life of the Spirit in us are practiced through our ways of joy, peace, goodness, kindness, patience, endurance, humility and self-control as Holy Spirit, who has connected to us, through conscience, is prompting us to display those virtues and characters–for they are His nature–the Ways of Love, and God is Love.

Those practices do not belong in politics. One cannot serve two masters; but that is what those people who claim to be Christians are doing–when they partake in the things of the world, such as politics,

If labour party loses the election and situation comes up and you open your mouth you will lose all credibility in the land . Then you would have insulted the living God, you will be painted as a hypocrite. You continue to listen to Peter Augustine who need to go back to the cross as a washed up evangelist. I am a preacher and I am disgusted by the DEA. Bill Daniel: there are a lot of questions I’d like to ask you but because of time I’ll ask these few:

When last have the DAEC done something as an evangelical body?

Why weren’t you part of the Team for the July 2013 National crusade?

Why is is that your place of worship is well Set up and there are so many churches under your watch that leaves less to be desired because they are in such a dilapidated state?

Why is it that so many pastors are struggling to make ends meet in the rural churches while some others lavishly spend on themselves?

Why is it that the Pentecostal churches are going down in numbers under your leadership whole para churches are thriving so well?

I’d gladly welcome your plea to stay away from politics if you will answer these questions. Seems like we are too busy minding others business that we forget ours.

Bill Daniel, Resistance to Tyranny Is Obedience To God. Save your soul bill stand up against wrong doing now before it is too late u will face your judgement.
    Read your Bible..
    James 2:10
    James 1:5-8
    James 2:14
When is the line drawn over which must cross those who would be obedient to God more than government? If a person knows without a shadow of doubt that the government which he is instructed in the scriptures to serve has instructed him to disobey God, should he then not resist? If so, then how? How strongly? 1 Peter 2:13 – 17 (Ps.14:1) As free men, and not using your liberty as a cloak to hide maliciousness behind, but as servants of God.

Romans 13: 1-10 says let every soul be subject to the higher powers (supreme powers; Phil 2:3; 3:8; 4:7; 1 Peter 2:13) for there is no power but of God

There is no separation of church and state in Dominica, we all have a voice because we are all suffering under this regime together.

  24. October 1, 2013

“Do not be conformed to the things of the world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind that you may know what is the good, acceptable, and perfect will of God” Roman’s 12: 2

Yes indeed Bishop Daniele is right on! The Church must consist of people who live in this world, but they don’t belong to it–just as Jesus said to Pilate: “My Kingdom is not of this world”. And yet we are to accept Him as the “King” of all Kings

However, what can be more worldly than the things of politics? But it has been so from the day ancient “Israelites”–God’s chosen people at the time–received King Saul as they had called for a human or earthly king instead of remaining under the Kingship of their God of Love and Righteousness–God warned them about the things they would suffer under the rules of those kings–just as we the people of the nations are suffering under the rules of their leaders.

Nonetheless they don’t have to endure such sufferings. For God is all about Life, and according to the Apostle Paul, what people need to do is to allow God to continue in control, as His Holy Spirit works through their mind, which gradually becomes trained and disciplined to know the ways of God–the ways of Love–which are the attitude and conducts of Life–the Life that is from Jesus Christ by sincere faith.

And the ways of Love are joy, peace, goodness, kindness, patience, endurance, humility, and self-control–there is no human law which can stand against these, for they are of God Almighty who is Spirit, in Love, Truth, and Righteousness.

    • October 1, 2013

Evangelism is about preaching the Gospel of Life to the “world”, and the “world” in question is people who simply exist in the body but without the Life that belong in the Spirit, this Life is form Jesus Christ–the Person in Eternal Spirit, God Almighty, who is Love. Jesus tells us: I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life.

“The Body without the Spirit is dead” Says the apostle James. And the Spirit is Love–the Light which quickens the sleeping or dead soul of man to come awake to live the good, the acceptable, and the perfect will of God Almighty–for His glory.

And so Politics and the work of Evangelism does not belong together, as Jesus has warned us, we cannot serve two masters–there will always be conflict and contention–thus truth is quite obvious among the many churches of today, where the church leaders are on the pulpit on a given day of the week, and the rest of the week belongs to the conflicts, confusion, strife, discord, and disdain of the world of politics.

Jesus said that the Gospel must be preached to all the four corners of the world, and then the end of the ages will come. That is to say no human being, who entered this world, will say that they did not know; when they stand before God’s at His appointed time of the “Great Judgment”.

People of Dominica, those of you who are rubbishing the Bishop’s saying, because your hearts are as hard as stone; don’t forget that the leader of the Political Party, which you are following right now, will not save you from God’s wrath when you stand before the “Great White Throne” judgment seat of God–no one should desire to stand before that judgment seat in the first place–that is the reason for the blood of Jesus Christ.

That is what Evangelists are called to do–to bring the message of Life to the people. This message is the Gospel of Jesus Christ–better known as the Word of God.

We are here to tell you that the Great Throne Judgment announces the verdict of death–the second death, which is complete separation from the God of Spirit and Righteousness forevermore. Life is in Jesus Christ, because of His great Love for you, claim this Life today.

If you are not receiving this message from the Church which you are at–if you have a church–you are not in a church of Evangelism; this church is no difference from a social club–which embraces the things of the world, including politics.

Let those who have ears hear what the Spirit is saying.

Amen to that.so as a Christian so don’t have to vote cuz it’s not spiritual ,don’t have to pay taxes ,don’t do anything that is outlined by the constitution cuz it’s not written in the bible ,so therefor as a profess mesanger of god it’s unlawful to condem the wrong doing of a government ?how can u teach someone to b just when u don’t preach against injustice that’s being done in the state? “Daniel stated after his election. “Under my reign I will ensure that our churches do that.” (Daniel )

Daniel, even prior to Jesus Christ coming to this earth, there was always conflict between Church and State! Whereas you are obligated to preach “thus said the Lord” on the pulpit; you have no religious, or spiritual right to dictate to any member, or follower of any religious, organization; or church whether they should participate into politics or not.

That is the personal business of the individual (s); I agree that the Church collectively should not be a mouth piece for any individual politician, or political party, preachers of religion should not impose their wish on their congregation by influencing the members vote, in favor of any political party.

The Church member should be at liberty to vote for a party or candidate of their persona, choice! It is unfortunate that in recent years, the Churches in Dominica has influence members to vote for a particular party.

The Bible instructs Christians to pray for our enemy’s, and you know the rest; nevertheless, as a preacher you may recognized that the Bible was not intended for the World, it was written for Christians as a guide. So, when we are instructed to pray for our enemy’s and those who used us spitefully: And this is not a direct quote; I suspect it means other Christians, who are our enemy, and those Christians who deliberately used us.

I believe when we decide to pray for leaders, it means we pray for the leaders in our Christian congregation, and not the wicked and corrupted, and unscrupulous politicians. Why should I pray for someone who may not even believe in God Almighty, if such persons actually believed in the Supreme God, they would endeavor to do what is right politics, or no politics at all times.

Remember, Christians are thought to be in the World but not of the world.

Well, that is my humble opinion, no one is obligated to agree with me!

For the sake of those who do not know, let it be known that Christianity is not a religion–religion is the most part of the reason this world is as upside down as it is now–from the beginning.

Religion embraces everything which belongs to this worldly system–that includes the rules and regulations of politics, along with all its corrupt and wicked practices. The apostle Paul ask us: What does corruption has to do with incorruption? Or what does Light have to do with darkness, it is a fact that Jesus is the “Light” of the world.

People who claim to be Christians are supposed to have claimed to be in a personal or intimate relationship with God Almighty, through sincere faith in His Person of Love–the Man who came to this world in the form of flesh and bones so to die that mankind might live–the name is Jesus Christ.

The Church–its congregation and its leaders–are called to live in the Spirit as the Body of Jesus Christ–He us the Head.

As Christians we are called to worship God through “fellowship” and “personal communion” with God–politics cannot be a part of this worship; Church leaders have the right to condemn the inclusion of politics in the practice of their congregation. God knows their ways in private.

The system of the world does not belong in the Church; for this system is not of God Almighty–He who has planned how every man who enters this world should live their days right to the end of his and her existence in the body. This plan is a good plan, it will depend on the choice of man through his ability of “free will”

God’s Ways is the Ways of Love—the Ways of Life processed and produced in the mind of the man who knows and have accepted, through obedience, trust and humility the good, acceptable, and perfect will of Life–the laws of God Almighty–who is King of kings in Jesus Christ.

Politics does not belong in those Laws of God. It is of the world; but the world and everything that is in it is passing away”. 1st. John 2: 17

Let those who have ears hear what the Spirit is saying.

Pure crap and hypocracy on the part of the Churches. As for bishop Bill Daniel he and other leading voices of the evangelical churches realized that they made a mess out of things and erected a political “Baal” in Dominica and because it looking so ugly, and they can say nothing, all of a sudden they were called to preach God’s word. Were they not called to preach God’s word when they would either close down their churches on a Sunday or sometimes have saturday night worship just to be able to attend DLP’s convention? Bill forgot their Mission when they allowed BJ to decorate the Portsmouth Pentecostal Church in Red and they were all dressed in their red suit / outfit when the DLP came to the Portsmouth Church during their victory rally in 2009? They have already identified themselves to the nation and Skerrit and the rest of the nation see them more as politicians than “Servants of God.” Just for them not to deal with the can of worms Skerrit opened all of a sudden they are out of politics.
True men of God throughout all generations have always stood against unrighteousness, truth, injustice, and corruption and would not fail to use God’s word to condemn unrighteousness. It is a shame that they have so badly messed up the office they were called upon to serve in that they have decided to remain silent altogether. They have failed us and have lost their savor. To do justice to the kingdom of God in Dominica, Bill Daniel and all those who held office during the erection and introduction of Baal worship in Dominica, should ALL resign and allow those that supported their party but did not get involved in politics, take over.

The church need to be a voice. NOT one that is selective or divisive. My question is when last did we have a universal voice against the things that affect the nation? What is our priority? Is it our pocket or to preach the word in and out of season? May I remind us that open rebuke is better than secret love.

Open rebuke is better than secret love. Love that is hidden and never discloses itself in acts of self-denial or generosity, especially that which from fear of offending does not rebuke a friend, nor speak the truth in love when there is good reason for such openness.

such disguised love is worse, more objectionable, less beneficial, than the plain speaking which bravely censures a fault, and dares to correct what is wrong by well-timed blame.

To hold back blame, it has been said, is to hold back love. “I love not my friend,” wrote Seneca : “if I do not offend him.” We are called to be impartial. According to Pastor Daniel they will not make political statements. If Pastor Daniel understood what is a political statement he would understand too that there is no way that he can avoid making political statements. When they take the position that the law concerning homosexuality should not be changed they made a political statement concerning that issue. If Pastor Daniel wants to make political statements in relation to some issues and not others he should speak plainly, make that clear and stop beating around the bush.

  45. Repent
    September 30, 2013

Pastor Bill it is too late for this statement . politics have divided your church… you have had foreign minister on your Pulpit preaching politics until members of your church walked out… the state of your congregation is because of politics. you have become the mouth piece of PRA and not the evangelical association…. the truth is the Church went to bed with Jezebel and now the county paying the price. This is too late……. The church played right into the hands of the politicians giving ministers diplomatic passport and using funds under the disguise of disaster preparedness to renovate the peoples Pentecostal church is that not politics…. Just repent while there is still a chance…..God is depending on you to call the church to repentance.

Ay, ay, the evangelicals made their ‘righteous’ feelings felt in 2000, when certain people made up stories about corruption among UWP ministers.
Those corruption allegations were investigated by Tony Astaphan, who came up with nothing. Ask him!!
Now, they shut up. They want their churches to look nice, eh? How materialistic they are – for a few thousand dollars, they have decided to make no comment about moral degradation and more of our country. Strange, isn’t it? HYPOCRITES.

my dear gwadaman …This is fantasy—a completely wrong view, and it is not what God expects or wants.
Nowhere did Jesus say, “Go you into all the world and strive to make it a better place by becoming part of it.” Instead, He said, “Go you into all the world and preach the gospel.”
Christ did not come to fix or make this world better. He announced the COMING of a better world, made possible because of His government!
And the Bible also commands, “Come out from among them [the world], and be you separate,” and further, speaking of society’s Babylonish ways, “Come out of her, My people, that you be not partakers of her sins, and receive not of her plagues.”
World punishment lies just ahead for those who carelessly reject God’s plain Word. my dear bishop need nothing to say to you’ll ok get that straight….

Rev. Pastor, it is because of Politics thats why a few members of your congregation now working at Breeze Mart will be out of work on 10/01/2013. It was a politician Charles Saverin who told Dominicans to BOYCOTT BREEZE MART because Mr Brisbane was raising ligitimate questions about Government bidding process and cost over runs on Government projects. What say you now. Its a shame in DOminica that men who are suppose to guide the congregation can be so backward in their thinking, Help us all Lord I pray

When and where did God appoint you above us all to represent him. What you are Jesus Christ now? You presume too much. What you mean you represent God? You mean like his lawyer or something? In any case God has always been in politics appointing those who would serve as leaders and kings of his people ordering them to go out and defeat enemies of God and is it not you pastors who tell us that it is God that puts in the government and it is he who takes it down. .Then God is in politics If you represent him you should be acting just like him. Raising good governments and taking down the bad ones not hiding behind him and saying that you are doing nothing because you represent God. What utter rubbish and a shameful use of God. Your real God is called convenience. Not even when pastors openly do wrong like at Portsmouth not too long ago do you openly condemn them. Is that what God would do. Check what Jesus did to the money changers in the temple. You hypocrites who call yourselves men of God without his ordination are the cause of strife in the world. May I ask you sir, How much “SPIRITUAL LEADERSHIP” have you and your hypocritical clan given, when you sit idly by with your eyes wide shut and ears closed; to all the injustice that plagues this country? Have you ever called together the government side and opposition to resolve the many instances of constitutional morass that we have experienced with the selection/election of presidents and/or police commissioner/s in the past and now? Have you ever called together the government side and opposition with regards to “FAIR” elections or the many violations of the electoral process in the past elections? What about the instances of social injustices example the firebombing of an elderly couple, where many ministers of government were publicly making statements against the victims in defense of a person/s of interest who is/are somewhat affiliated with the government? Have you ever called either side together; to bring an end to the political diatribe with the many instances of filth that comes from the political platforms and certain radio programs, (You should know which programs and if you haven’t heard you can get recordings to see which) that do absolutely nothing to educate and improve the mental capacity of our citizens?. Mr. Bill Daniel God does not support injustice. If you claim that you have been “well placed by god” you and your clan have failed the people of this country and by extension God and have not lived up up to that call because you have thrown a blind eye with deaf ears to all the injustices in the land. Remember Jesus informed those who questioned him and by extension us,”Render to Ceasar the things that are Ceasar’s and to God the things that are God’s” Remember to that Ceasar was a political figure, was he not?

Really!!!! ….Well Mr Pastor and let me take the opportunity to address the Bishop to while I’m at it. You call yourselves men of God and I respect that. But in my personal opinion the evangelical association and the Bishop of Roseau and by extension the Catholic Church are both cowards!!! Cowards who attend functions, deliver prayers and bless various forms of infrastructure but who fail to do the most important thing which is to challenge the leaders of our country (Yes all political leaders ruling party and opposition) to do the right thing and desist from victimization, abuse of power, open robbery of the countries assets and neglect of the future of this country …..its young people.

The youth are chastised everyday by the church about illegal activities and immoralities but when the politicians do it all of a sudden it is the policy of the church to stay away from politics.

This is downright shameful!!!! Doesn’t the bible say do unto others as you’d have them do unto you….. what about love thy neighbour as thy self and thou shall not steal….. kill…… and destroy all of which are perpetrated by these politicians everyday but apparently the verses of the scripture does not apply to them or rather it is easy to pick on other groups in society but the church should not call the politicians out on all the wrongs things that do and the pain and suffering inflicted on the most vulnerable group THE YOUTH OF THIS COUNTRY.

AGAIN!!!!…. JUST SHAMEFUL!!!! I HAVE NO RESPECT FOR THESE INSTITUTIONS!!! If your role is to spread the word and stand up for justice in this country who better to target that the politicians ….THEY MAKE DECISION ON BEHALF OF ALL OF US ….YES ALL OF US …SO IF THE SHIP IS SINKING YOULL BE ON IT TO AND UNLESS GOD GIVES YOU A SPECIAL BOAT LIKE NOAH’S ARK ……YOU WILL DROWN JUST LIKE THE REST OF US!!!

Pastor Daniel We believe you and you are on the right tract.

I am concerned about the conduct of Pastor Randy Rodney on the issue you just articulated. I presume he is a member of your association. Please forward the following information to him:

IS PASTOR RANDY RODNEY PREACHING THE GOSPEL ACCORDING THE DOCTRINE OF EDDISON JAMES

Is Pastor Rodney as one of the lords anointed getting involved in worldly things, isn’t he afraid that Lennox Linton as his policy is to remove the ointment from his anointment as he had threatened to do to his colleague Evangelist Peter R. Augustine?

Did Pastor Rodney support the office of the president when Lennox Linton was accusing the President falsely for Corruption?

When Lennox Linton Called the President a “black Dominican breed and bread Country Bookie from Grand Bay”; did we hear Pastor Rodney?

When the UWP requested the President to take action in matters he had no Power and then accused him of being bias where was Pastor Rodney?

When Lennox Linton threatened to remove the ointment from Evangelist Peter Augustine’s anointment, we heard not a word from Pastor Rodney.

Why should Pastor Rodney now find it convenient to seek to claim that he is defending the office of the president over a non issue? “Pastor Randy Rodney said the prayers are against the fact that a president is being nominated coming straight from the political platform.” Is he preaching the gospel according to the Eddison James doctrine which stated in 1996 that a Minister of government must seek a period of cleansing from leaving Politics before he can go to the bench?

After all may be Lennox Linton believes in the Eddison James Doctrine and will spear Pastor Randy the ointment of his anointment. So why should Pastor Rodney under the cloak of spiritual edification make this sweeping statement “While the government can do what the government wants to do, God always overrule whatever man decides to do,” “So I am asking people to petition God.”
Pastor Randy, I reverently submit that your teachings according the doctrines of Eddison James has nothing to do with the Doctrine of Christ which is “render to “Savarin” the things that are “Savarin” and to God the things of God.

I am in no position to remove the ointment from your anointment but I would admonish you to seek the face of God and call on the people of the land to repent from their sins and turn from their wicked ways; Rumour mongering, Disrespect for those in authority, Hatred, Bearing false witness, jealousy, envy, corruption in Government and in opposition so that God will forgive them of their sins and heal the land.

Pastor Randy this is the Gospel of the Bible and that is what I expected to hear from the anointed one not the polemics I heard coming from your pulpit.

It is very constitutional for a Minister to go straight to the Presidency from the Cabinet.
Barrack Obama came from the Senate to Presidency.
Barrack Obama was considered a far left Liberal Democrat another word for very, very partisan politician. He has to work with both houses of Congress.

All our previous Presidents had their political preferences; Charles Savarin likewise has and is entitled to his political preference and our future Presidents will have and shall be entitled to their political preferences.

Like when we are about to participate in the Blessed Sacrament they are not worthy but only say the word and they shall be made whole. Amen.

    • September 30, 2013

Please dont us Obama to explain what Savarin or Skerrit have done to the people of D’ica before Obama got to the Presidentcy of the USA he was a community worker he worked with his people black/white he was loved because he shared their plight he help prevent poverty ect ect, so tell me how does Savarin come close so when you speak make sure you know your facts and that’s part of the problem the lemght that some of you will go to adhere to something that you know to be wrong.

D’ican boycott all activities that Savarin will be called to sit at, remember their are many ways to skin a cat, put him in the cat position.

Thank God for Pastor Rodney. He is the voice in the wilderness. I wish the others would speak up like he does. In the Old testament when the rulers did wrong God used the prophets the men of God to go and tell them that they were doing wrong. John the Baptist got beheaded because he told the king,
it is not lawful for you to have your brothers wife, Nathan went to tell David that he had sinned when he slept with Bathsheba and had her husband killed so he could have her. Mr Skerrit is doing wrong and they are all turning a blind eyes because some of them can get AC for their churches. By the way I am a Pentecostal and I do not support what some of my pastors are doing. You must speak up for wrong instead of saying the church is not in politics. Politics is a way of life.

      • Really!
        September 30, 2013

@ Believer I’m somewhat confused! When you say that pastor Rodney is a voice in the wilderness, are you saying that it is a voice which is not heard, one that no one pays any attention to??!!! Because the story in the Bible you are referring to, is related to Pastor Rodney. yes David sent Bathseba’s husband to the front line to fight knowing that he would have died and so was free to have Bathsheba. That was just what Pastor Rod did. He pretended to care and was consueling both a woman and her husband and ended up having an affair with the woman which resulted in the breakdown of their marriage. Who wants to listen to that man, a so called man of God, after knowing this about him? His voice must be in the wilderness unless UWP supporters don’t care as long as it is against PM Skerritt.

those hypocritical Christians. Karl Marx was so right. Religion is the opium of the people. It is a drug to keep poor people in their places. If it was an issue against homosexuals, those homophobic monsters would be ranting and raving. Thank God I go to God directly. I do not need the guidance of these monsters.

Are you nuts? The church is no bedrock of ethics and morality. More criminal acts occur in the church than anywhere else. Remember the Catholic Church covered up abuse for decades. As for those so called Christian churches, so busy lining their pockets at the expense of poor people.

I understand that the church should not get involved in politics however, if there is wrong happening in society we expect the church to speak out against it. The church has failed us and has become RELIGIOUS. That’s why, as an evangelical Christian, I go to church when I want. Daniel want people to come to services and meetings? really? When the church will be looking for their congregation it will be long gone. We just have to live like Christ did and love our brothers. For Christ said it is not works that will take us to heaven but how we treated the least of our fellow men.

    September 30, 2013

Well said Bishop. The church is supposed to pray for those in authority and keep the peace in the land. The church has the moral responsibility of looking out for the poor, the destitute, the widow…not having pastors campaingning…and is the pastor that campaingning you know…pastor Rod

Then Bishop I suggest you be what God intended which is the light of the world….and to be that we must be true to the almighty and not condone evil because the ones doing evil give us assistance to build a better sanctuary for our flocks comfort. Jesus was political because he instructed us to pray for our leaders as well as he throw out those selling and buying in his sanctuary….he called out the pharises if that’s not political tell me what is? Now stop pretending and help guide the nation, call a spade a spade less we present ourselves empty handed before God….Who am I kidding you all cant even guide all you own renegade adulterous members…they just breaking way and starting their own church…get a grip

Pastor Daniel no one is asking you to side any political party , but I believe your role as Pastor is not only to look after the spiritual needs of your members , but to also advise them on other aspects of life that could affect their Spiritual lives. If a Government is in your face Corrupt why shouldn’t a man of God speak out about it ? Politics and affect your church Sir and your freedom to worship as is in the case of the Communist and dictatorship Countries like, Russia , Cuba, China , where Believers must hide to worship their God . Stop that hypocrisy , stop hiding behind God , and speak out for God’s sake . By de way how much money did Skerit give you for the refurbishment of the Pentecostal Church at Goodwill ?

Pastor Bill, i’m sorry but you have just opened up yourself to a barrage of attacks from linton. He is going to “take the ointment out of your anointing.” Don’t ask me what that means but pastor Rodney might be able to tell you.

  97. September 30, 2013

Well said my Brother and friend, just this morning I was disturbed by what I read on DNO, regarding a pastor calling on christians to prayer against the Government’s presidential normination, how sick can we become, even after God has blessed us with that innate desire to effect change by the working of his spirit within us. I think your statement came at an appropriate time, and has been guided by the spirit.
It is high time the church begins to see and understand clearly its commission and do what the word says, Pray for them that are in authority that they will be properly guided in affairs of the state, and at no time should we be swayed in other direction.
I condemn the move by this so -call and I calling on him to change his ways as Micheal said in one of his popular hits. Where was his voice, where there were a number of shooting incidence in the Portsmouth area, Is he ending his voice to the senseless killings that has been recorded over the past few years in this beautiful Nature Isle of ours. The spirit of Zerubabel is what we need in this Country, to wake up and rebuild the broken walls of our nation allow territorial revival to spring forth, and as such, we will experience peace and tranquility in this nation. Repent you whited wall christian, you are concern about the political shift in this Country, while you embrace the malice of what ordinary citizen do, you have lost your touch on spiritual matters and you are making mechandize of the people of God to pray senseless prayers. I Really trust you would pay some attention to my comments here, and if you choose to, you are welcome to refute my claims.

    Thanks

I totally Disagree with you Pastor Bill. If you go into the scriptures the Kings never govern without God. The prophets of old stood up to Kings and government and called for order. What you have said is not Godly at all. I live in north America and preachers get involve because their members do have a say in the affairs of governanace. My pastor is very vocal as all the pastors we know.

Pastor, what are you implying? You cannot support evil with evil. In the Bible Days there were no opposition. There was the kings and there goverment. The rule of authourity was the church. This party like structure came from the greeks and romans WHICH WE SHOULD CONDELM.

Pastor Daniel. You have a morale authority to help guide we the people when our government is doing wrong. What do you mean you are not involved in politics….you talk is politics, you doh talk is politics, you are I guess an educated man to know best when advice is necessary.
Jesus Christ died for religion, faith an politics, he spoke on behalf of the people….the discretion is yours

Then don’t look to him for spiritual guidance. Look to Lennox Linton; he will shepherd his flock to destruction and chaos. Just look at the stance he took letting the 14 days (according to the Constitution) run out and have Spaggs knocking on doors after the time had elapsed looking for Skerrit to present their nominee. Further, look at how he allowed the good lady who I admire so much as my former principal and who should have known better to make a fool of herself by accepting her name to be even mentioned in their fiasco, LONG AFTER THE 14 DAYS HAD ELAPSED and nothing could have been done about it. The blind leading the blind!!! But I forgot, he did not finish school.

DNO, I’m waiting and watching to see what you do with my comments.

You seem fixated with Lennox Linton. Did I mention anything that can be construed as partisan politics? I am making a general statement about the responsibility or lack thereof of men who claim to be following in the footsteps of Jesus to speak out against injustice and all wrong doing, whether it is political, moral or ethical.

my dear fren plz read…Romans 13:1-7…..everyone must submit himself to the governing authority except that which god has estsblished, the authorities that exist have been established by god.consequently,he who rebels against the authority is rebelling against what god has institued and those who do so will bring judgenment on themseleves…so my dear fren jesus is lookin for souls to get saved not justice and wrong doin only ar you willing to give your life to christ he is waitin patiently and has been knockin at ur door for so lng why not give him a try ?…oh and if you’re a christian remember the christian is to obey god rather than human authority ..read again in acts 4:19 then go to acts 5:29 remember pastor bill is god servant…..be careful when you asking about spiritual guidance and whom you seek ?

        September 30, 2013

You seem to be confused. I guess you are saying that Jesus was rebelling against God when by his words and deeds he acted contrary to the rules of the governing authority of his time when those rules were going against God’s laws. I am confused. You seem to be one of those people who conveniently quote scripture out of context to support your ridiculous arguments. Thank God I can read and understand at least some of the Good Book by myself.
