The local Muslim community has distanced itself from the actions of Osama Bin Laden in the wake of his recent death.
In an interview with Dominica News Online, Shiekh Idris Ahiwa stated that although the community has not yet officially released any indication of its stance on the matter, they condemn the actions of Bin Laden, Al Qaeda and followers of the militant Islamist organization.
“The way Osama wants it, is not the way it should be,” Shiekh Ahiwa firmly stated. “Political problems should be dealt with politically.”
He said that Osama got what he wanted. “If one lives by the sword, he’ll die by the sword,” he stated pointing to Bin Laden’s staple speeches on martyrdom.
He made it clear that Muslims in Dominica, in no way, subscribe to the behavior or beliefs of Bin Laden.
Responding to reports indicating that Bin Laden was unarmed at the time of the raid and was killed despite that fact, the Shiekh remained steadfast that it was wrong to kill an unarmed combatant, no matter what the circumstances.

Sheik Ahiwa believes that Muslims worldwide and here in Dominica have been affected by the actions of Bin Laden and Al Qaeda and pointed out to incidents in France where Muslims are restricted in practicing their beliefs and to the victims and families directly impacted by the tragedy on September 11 2001.
He affirms that Muslims and non-Muslims should live peacefully and called for talks between differing groups as the only option for resolution.
An official statement will be made by the Muslim community on a radio program on DBS Radio this evening at 7 p.m.
The Muslim community in Dominica numbers roughly 300 and is growing.

I am very certain that before us as black people were brought from Africa we too were from Muslim decent. Before we were given someone to worship by the people who enslaved us. Back when we thought for ourselves.

Some of them left their country to study at the Dominica university. I know this.
Someone informed me that she spoke to a Muslim who was a delivery person in Toronto. He said that he was going to Dominica to study. I responded: “Why is he not studying in Canada rather than in Dominica? What is his reason for going to Dominica? They know why they migrate to Dominica and other islands to study. The U.S. , Canada and Europe will not accept them because they do not qualify for landed and student status.
Why Dominica? It is suspicious. Dominica is too quick to accept them without any in-depth investigation. It may be that he did not obtain a landed status in Canada and heard of Dominica, probably through the Internet or his family or friends and that it is easy to migrate to Dominica with no red tape. One or a few are admitted to Dominica and they tell others. Sooner or later there will be an influx of them in Dominica and yes, Dominicans will be strangers in their own land. Mark my words!
Once they arrive in Dominica they will remain there due to lax Dominican immigration. I hope in the future Dominica does not pay a dear price for this.
They have their reasons. They have stated that they are out to conquer the world and to get everyone to join their Islam religion. I heard it and if I heard it obviously the U.S., Canada and Europe heard it and know it.
These people are aggressive and will go to the extreme. They have no respect for the Christian religion and other people. They think that their religion is superior to ours (those who are Christians and practicing ones at that). What will they not do to indoctrinate Christians and try to convince the vulnerable and gullible ones and successfully so to renounce their Christian faith and to join theirs.

Shiekh… look at these terms: Combatant; Civilian. You talk about it being wrong to kill an unarmed combatant but how do you compare that to killing thousands of unarmed Civilians?
The fact comes down to not what you believe anyway but what Bin Laden believed and did. He believed it was right to kill unarmed Civilians and so Justice proves that he got just the same.
Justice made him feel (albeit for a moment) what it is like to be killed like those thousands of his victim who were UNARMED.

The “…..reasons for his actions…” was the notion that the Islamic world must return to religious rule under the Chaliphat, where religious leaders and law replace democratically elected leaders and secular constitution.
Bin Laden had nothing to offer but the Middle-Ages. Ordinary folk in the Islamic world know this and that is why Bin laden and his radical Islamic ideology was a compleat failure and played no part in the populare uprising in the arab world.
