Remembrance gathering to be held for Kernisha Etienne today in Warner in light of her 1 year disappearance
To commemorate one year since the disappearance of missing 13-year-old Kernisha Etienne, family members and loved ones will gather in Warner this afternoon to pay respect to the teen’s life.
Speaking exclusively to Dominica News Online, her father, Curtis Etienne, says that the event will not only feature his daughter but will also be open to other members of the public who have lost a child or children within the last year to honour their memory.
The event, which begins at 3 p.m., will take place where the police erected their bases in the days following the 13-year-old disappearance in June 2022.
Etienne is also encouraging everyone to wear pink, his daughter’s favourite colour, or white to show their support.
Today, June 7, 2023, officially marks a year since Kernisha was allegedly snatched from the comfort of her home in Warner and disappeared without a trace.
In the days which followed, the quiet village had been overrun by drones, canine units, and hordes of on-foot volunteers, all scouring that Western community in a desperate effort to find the Warner Primary School student.
In the early days of the investigation, attention was also placed on the death of her alleged abductor, Keyan Alexander, a resident of Belles, who was shot by the police on June 18, 2022, day 11 of their search for him and the missing child.
The man accused (Kyan Alexander) of kidnapping Kernisha was gunned down execution style by the Tonton Macoute, paramilitary force of Dominica.
One year after this unfortunate incident, the corpse of Mr. Alexander is still in custody of the state. The pariah administration has obstinately refused to release the body to the grieving family. Can someone tell me where else in the entire Caribbean this has ever happened? Unprecedented!
Dominica is a dark place. There is no sunlight in government. This administration is equivalent to a nocturnal animal. It operates best in complete darkness and obscurity. Roosevelt’s autocracy is owl-like.
Ibo, this entire story will go down in our history as the biggest ever cover up, closely followed by the initial electoral reform papers and the mysterious disappearance of the CBI and PetroCaribe Dollars. Unfortunately, the page is not large enough for all the cover ups, so I leave it at that for the time being.
Kernisha gone but definitely not forgotten! May her short Robin on this earth always be remembered for her infectious smile and the good she did.
*”Robin” should be “sojourn’.
