In a recent political shake-up, Dominica News Online (DNO) has learned through reliable sources that Renos Blanc, a local mechanic in his early thirties, is poised to take the reins as the new opposition senator. This development follows the unexpected move by Opposition Leader Jesma Paul-Victor to remove Sean Douglas from his position, sending ripples of speculation and intrigue across the political spectrum.
Last month, Douglas, a former press secretary of the Dominica Labour Party (DLP) government and a well-known businessman found himself at the center of political turmoil when it emerged that he had been ousted from his parliamentary post. The surprise was palpable, given that Douglas had been handpicked by Paul-Victor as one of her two senators for representation in the House of Assembly.
The public became aware of this decision when the Independent candidate for the Salisbury Constituency penned a letter to Her Excellency Sylvanie Burton, the President of Dominica, on November 6, 2023, formally requesting the immediate revocation of Senator Douglas’s appointment.
Since then, multiple sources, including a family member, have confirmed that Blanc, originally from Coulibistrie, but residing in Grand Savanne, Salisbury, is set to assume the parliamentary seat.
DNO has also been informed that a letter has been formally sent to the President of Dominica, apprising her of Blanc’s appointment as Douglas’s successor.
The rift between Paul-Victor and the now-former senator, Douglas, seems to suggest a perceptible lack of trust. Breaking her silence on this matter, the head of the opposition revealed that her decision was the result of weeks of thoughtful contemplation aimed at safeguarding the “dignity and credibility of our democratic governance processes from individual excesses.” Pointing to her role as a custodian of the State, Paul-Victor emphasized the challenging nature of her decision to dismiss Douglas, and expressed regret for what she said was a “necessary course of action.” She stated that it was due to a “significant breach of trust, callous disregard for the principle of collective responsibility in the Parliamentary Opposition, and a refusal to be responsible for unilateral actions that undermine the work of the team.”
Paul-Victor further asserted that these behaviors conflicted with the values essential to the effective discharge of the opposition’s oversight and representational responsibilities in Parliament. She emphasized the gravity of the actions that resulted in this decision, underscoring the crucial role of integrity, ethical conduct, and commitment to the highest standards of national service.
The controversy surrounding this decision has permeated public discourse, resulting in substantial backlash. Calls for Paul-Victor’s resignation have surfaced, with some alleging external influences, claiming that Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit played a role in undermining the opposition.
During a parliamentary session last month, Skerrit seized the opportunity to condemn what he described as a “vicious attack” against the leader of the opposition.
d lady is a mute..y not bring more mute…i am an empty head thus i know empty heads…d lady head empty..i cannot fly plane please dont ask me to
In whose pocket, and who paid her when she nominated Sean Douglas,a mouth piece, member and supporter of UWP?The thing to do is address the greed, jealousy, crookedness, backstabbing and vilification in your corrupt party(UWP)That is why today UWP has no say in parliament.Fix and clean you house before you talk about another person house. All you UWP people do is betray each other like Judas, shameless ana tormented.
@Wallace Hussey, a grease monkey is what many mechanics abroad call themselves. Its not an insulting term.
He reminds me of a Pakistani Moslem and looks like Fidel Castro’s youngest brother. He might also be a Jew. He could be a citizen of Lebanon.
That independent candidate thing has proved itself to be very self-serving.
I wouldn’t be surprised if de opposition leader is being advised by dlp influencers.
She doesn’t address the public on pressing matters affecting de people she say she represents as an opposition leader.
De Dominican public was literally inside Lennox Linton house when he served as opposition leader and every issue was addressed on behalf of the people.
She will have to find a way to convince me that this guy is perhaps a better team player and will truly represent and advocate on behalf of the people.
This is de weakest opposition leader I have ever witnessed.
What a joke!
Skerrit must love her ………he is always first to defend her cause because she doesn’t pose a threat to him like Lennox Linton and Thompson Fontaine.
Skerrit eating her like kfc………we can see right through you miss Paul.
We have no praises for you………wheel and come again
Well, let’s hope that this is a mere rumour and that there is no truth to the story. Say it ain’t so, Jesma. Lori Victor is bad enough. Please arrest the wash-your-foot-and-come disease that is plaguing democratic representation in Dominica.
DNO why ddn’t you give your readers a more detailed background of this bearded stranger? You are doing the readers a disservice. Come again with a more comprehensive account on someone who do represent the people of the entire country.
DNO, I find that you are quite analytical at times, but many of your articles are just bland and just a regurgitation of information sent to your news desk. You can do better.
…
I would like to ask the opposition leader if she had any one on one meetings with Roosevelt Skerrit?
Did you take any funds form Skerro?
You need to check the Dr. for glasses .
Dominicans are already fed-up with Roosevelt.
I wished that I didn’t have to say it, but based on what I’m seeing happening in this UWP all evidence shows that Roosevelt will remain the pm/am of Dominica way down into his 90s. And this my friends is extremely troubling, to say the least. God help us, please.
@Circus
Step up and do something…Who are you leaving it for?123
Your comments do have merit; nevertheless, you have forgotten that the UWP did not contest any seat in the last general election. It is true that this lady represents I believe the people of Salisbury. However, we don’t know if she’s associated or affiliated with any of the established political party’s in Dominica.
It is my observation that she has an issue of straying for one bad decision to another.
The least she could have tried to do is select someone who looks presentable.
The man might be a grease monkey (motor mechanic) However, there is a time and place for everything. It would appear that based on her choice of this character she is probably manipulated by someone.
Here’s is not a normal choice!
You quick to judge the book by the cover. Because the guy is a mechanic you call him a grease monkey you must first get to know the guy before you accuse him at lease he has an occupation what is yours. Sit at home get on the internet and bad mouth everybody.
@Wallace I see why you are putting your blinkers on and ignoring the reality. You are a mechanic as well and everyone knows that you have carried yourself with respect and dignity; I would vote for you. But come on man, let’s put politics aside for now. It’s very plain to see that this lady, Paul is in Roosevelt’s pocket. This Dominica is now so corrupt that the love of money has caused people to forget what honesty really means. In my humble opinion I think Dominica would move forward and prosper under the leadership of Lennox the Honorable Linton or Arthie Martin. DOMINICA 🇩🇲 FIRST.
I don’t know why you are of an opinion that I judge that guy. you fail to realize that he is someone selected to sit in the nations Parliament representing some political faction, therefore on his introduction to the nation the person making the presentation should ensure that he is appropriately dressed!
Perhaps because you might be in the habit of accepting anything as most people do in our country his appearance matters not to you.
There is a right psychological moment for everything, one capable would know when to use it.
If both he and the one who selected him had just ßit of pride they would ensure he is properly groomed and dressed appropriately!
Hence, I would not have anything to criticize.
@circus uwp is not de reason dat Skerrit on de stage
just like de business environment in de city is not caused by uwp
but you see Skerrit as a problem especially in de long run and now after 20 years you admit it is troubling……….and I am sure you not a uwp supporter.
This dude looks like a guy who hangs around a bus station.
They say a picture is worth 1,000 words- hope that picture is not a real depiction of who that chap is. Hope is capable as Sean or more- I doubt it.
Stupse. a yes man most likely. What is the background of this man? Educational? professional? social and community work? Who the hell is this person? and why was he chosen? was there a call to have the position filled? what was the criteria for his selection? I mean, we need to just stop putting all cat and dog in the house of parliament.
Surely the so-called opposition leader DID NOT pen such worded letter as published by DNO. Someone please ask her to pen a letter on her own and you’ll see what I have said is a fact. From day # 1 I suggested that this lady will kiss to Skerrit behind to support her well being at that of her family. Everyone wants a nickle from this blood sacrificial money. Everyone. It’s a shame and a damn disgrace that Dominicans allow JUST ONE LOW LIFE to dominate the entire populace like this. This is crazy. Crazy and crazier by the second.
God intercede on our Behalf! alas. Dominic, sa ke fee Dominic!!????????🙏 🙏 🙏.
