Roseau South MP pleads for support for Hurricane-affected businesses

Anchorage Hotel was severely damaged by Hurricane Maria

Roseau South MP and deputy leader of the opposition United Workers Party (UWP), Joshua Francis, is seeking to revive businesses in his constituency which were destroyed by Hurricane Maria.

“Hurricane Maria did give us a blow; it affected the housing stock,” Francis lamented during the recent debate on 2019/2020 budget debate. “It has also affected the business stock in Roseau South constituency and we would like to see that central government provides the necessary assistance for the resuscitation for the Anchorage Hotel, Sisserou Hotel just to name a few,” he explained.

He highlighted the importance of these hotels because of their ability to create employment opportunities for hundreds of constituents.

“It is important not just for the Roseau South constituency but Dominica by extension, because we have to grow our own; we have to develop our entrepreneurs; we have to inspire our young entrepreneurs; we need more Egbert Charles’ and more Sukie Wisntons in the Roseau South constituency and Dominica by extension,” Francis suggested.

The parliamentary representative said in the area of agriculture they have seen a death-knell of the flower show.

“We have known that in the Giraudel area, providing a spectacle as far as the flower show is concerned, with Team Dominica United Workers Party, we will subsidize the committee [Giraudel Flower Show Committee] to ensure that we have the flower show because this is important, not only for the local economies of Eggleston and Giraudel but for the nation,” the Roseau South MP declared.

Mr Joshua Francis, you and I always say hi or wave to each other even if you know I am a die hard Labour supporter. But why now? Is it because you know my very good friend Isaac prime minister in waiting is taking over or what Joshua, as a friend. I am sorry to say we labour prime minister Skerrit and his supporters going to wipe so-called Workers clowns out of this place.

The money invested or spent on building Skerritt’s fowl house could have gone a long long way into helping bring back one of those businesses. That was not a priority for Skerritt and his labor regime. He has branded tho owners and operators of those businesses as opposition and surely they are going to suffer. Have faith Joshua. Change is a MUST. The days of labor are numbered and businesses will rise again.

Joshua you are always sounding strange when you go on the media platform. It is now almost two years since Hurricane Maria; that is how long you have been sleeping.

Why are you guys always making a joke of themselves? Dominica does not need any more jokers; and most certainly not from the “opposing government” There should be no time for jokes in that sector.

Liar 🤥 liar pants 👖 on fire. Why almost 2 years after Maria on the dawn of elections you want to gain political strides! Was the hotels you mentioned functional prior to Maria? Why haven’t the proprietors of the business seek loans instead of handouts, and where is the insurance money? Stop 🛑 babbling and get the facts, too little too late.

Even a child could do better than the corrupt double doctor. Lennox is easily capable of running this country and more to the point for the good of all citizens rather than a few. Your Crime Minister has destroyed our island and made us the laughing stock of the entire region!

The government is for Dominica, even if they didn’t win a seat they should not neglect that constituency. At the end of the day the goal should be about Dominica’s development, not just party politics

Will you guys make up your minds?
When people seek help they are beggars and Skerrit is keeping them in poverty so they can continue to beg.

Now you want the government to step in and build back businesses which should have been insured. If they try to do that you all will conjure up another reason why they are doing it.

I have difficulty with flip flopping and mixed signals so try to be more decisive and principled in your positions. That way you just might be taken seriously.

Just my little two pence of advice sir. I know that is difficult for you because your situation epitomizes the flip flopping at its best but do try sir.

@ Ms. Saunders,……Duplicity is their trade mark. They are consummate liars. He is advocating to get assistance for the business that are self sufficient, that are /were well insured , but when the government gave priority to the un-insured and other people Francis and co said that government was playing politics to get votes. And calling those in need beggers singing for their supper.
For about two years they have been hiding, afraid of Maria, suddenly they are awake with press conference. It’s Like Rip Van Winkle still in a daze not realizing two years have passed. Two years they got paid for doing nothing. This is real comes.
Like the lady said Labour stands for Progress not Commess.

The hotel would employ those people getting handouts. A combination of government and private investment is needed to generate employment in Dominica. The Red Clinic does not create jobs, hotels does.

So why don’t you and the unproductive worrisome party(uwp) build hotels. Dominica enjoys a democratic, free enterprise private sector system with all kinds of skills. There are some educated leaders who can make ganga spiritual foods.
Last election of the uwp promises was building a hotel in the Kalingo Territory. Now for this election is building hotels all over. What is stopping them to do it now. There should not be any Ifs or Buts. This is private sector free enterprise, so what is stopping them. Just do it, no excuses like we are not in government Cabinet).
You are already getting money every month for doing nothing , so do some investments , do some borrowing or go plant ganga.

@ Wallace,….Yes Sir , they have been serious for 22 years since their inception, 4 years from last election since they became team and six months since they became team team , sorry I mean Tim Tim…dry wood.
They are seriously awake after two years when Maria put them to sleep while the were in hiding like frightened children. They claim that they have empathy for the people who lost everything ,but the had no time for poor beggers forced to sing for their supper, but now they have time to be advocates for big business owners who can take care of themselves.
Yes they are seriously wicked. The unreasonable wicked people uwp strikes again like gang bangers forming a mob.
Like Al Capone or M13 ?

Thank you Joshua for all the work that you are doing to make Dominica a better place to live and work. Billion$ of dollars from sales of our passports and businesses are sill suffering. What are Dominicans waiting for to rise and demand these Gov’t resign.

Can we call the opposition mobsters “DEMANDERS”. They are always demanding something. I guess that is why they are the only one term party in over 70 years of party politics in Dominica.
“WORKERS” must be a misnomer. Is it because they never work but get paid for doing nothing ? Is ‘DEMAND’ all they know. No collaboration, no negotiation….just demand anytime and everytime.
Is 14 some king of mystical number. All their demands seem to have a 14 day time frame. Does it have anything to do with jombee money ?
