Saint Martin to become a member of the OECS this week

PM Skerrit addressing press conference

Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit will join leaders of the Organization of the Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) at the 76th meeting of the OECS Authority this week to welcome Saint Martin as a member of the OECS.

The ceremony is expected to be held on March 19 and 20 at the Secret Hotel in Anse Marcel, St Lucia in the presence of the 11 member heads of state.

The French side will join existing associate members the British Virgin Islands (BVI), Anguilla, Martinique and Guadeloupe.

“I will participate in the 76th meeting of the OECS Authority at the accession of Saint Martin to the OECS,” Skerrit said. “This strength of the OECS and by extension CARICOM ties in our unity, our shared goals and our ability to face challenges together.”

He continued, “When we stand as one Caribbean we negotiate better, we trade smarter and we develop stronger.”

According to him, Dominica has always been a champion of regional integration.

“This is why I am proud to stand with my fellow OECS leaders in welcoming Saint Martin in the OECS family,” he stated.

The Prime Minister continued, “As Dominicans we must embrace the spirit of unity, strength and progress, not just regionally but nationally. This is how we move forward as a people.”

Headquartered in Castries Saint Lucia, the OECS has until now brought together 11 States and territories of the Caribbean basin. Antigua and Barbuda, Dominica, Grenada, Montserrat, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines have been members since its creation. The British Virgin Islands (1984), Anguilla (1995), Martinique (2015) and Guadeloupe (2019) are associate members. The Collectivité of Saint Martin will therefore become the 12th partner, and the 5th associate member of this international intergovernmental organization dedicated to regional integration in the Eastern Caribbean.

Sorry, truth be told, the OECS has presently been reduced to a Social Club concocted of rulers who are nothing more than liars, bandits, bully boys, ruffians and morons.

Hope these present crooked heads will be voted out of office and be replaced by more honest, humble, mentally nimble leaders.

At that ceremoney, OECS heads must caution Skerrit about the abuse of Dominica’s electoral system to maintain his position as leader. He is an inveterate liar, DON’T take as truthful anything he says, unless you all verify them. His cowardly abuse of the RSS should be noted as well.
I wish, hope and trust that the leader of the St Martin’s people is no THIEF as some the current OECS leaders. In fact some of them have stolen so much from the people that they are dead scared of leaving office.

Hot debate. What do you think? Thumb up 15 Thumb down 12
