Having been given the mandate to select candidates for the upcoming general elections, Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit, at his party’s Londonderry delegates conference on Sunday, made sweeping changes and announced a slate of candidates that he said is in the ” best interest of the party.”
Among the casualties are Education Minister Petter St. Jean, Dr. Colin McIntyre, Johnson Drigo and Justina Charles.
Skerritt also named his wife Melissa Skerritt as the party’s candidate for Roseau Central and former UWP Roseau Central MP, Joseph Isaac to contest Roseau North.
In a shocking move, Jahisiah Benoit who was groomed to contest Roseau South had his dreams shattered when Chekira Lockhart-Hypolite was announced as the candidate.
Medical doctor, Irvin McIntyre will replace his brother, Colin and accountant, Fidel Grant will be the candidate for Wesley.
Skerrit also discarded Cassius Darroux after one term in the Kallinago Territory and replaced him with Cozier Frederick.
In the Riviere Cyrique constituency, Greta Roberts will replace the ailing Ivor Stephenson.
Dr Adonis King will replace Kelver Darroux who announced earlier this year that he was leaving active politics, in St. Joseph. Edward Registe run in Grand Bay and Dominica Festivals Commission (DFC) Executive Director, Marva Williams will replace Dr. Kenneth Darroux in Petite Savanne and 30 year-old Anika Charles takes the place of Dayton Baptiste to battle United Workers Party Leader, Lennox Linton in Marigot.

Parliament is still active. The thirteen who are being replaced can have a vote of no confidence against Skerritt and replace him as PM. Then they can have a leadership change and choose who represents the Marty rather than the unilateral decisions of Skerritt. She went into the prison and married a notorious criminal whom she knew from no where just to gain residency in Anguilla. She destroyed many marriages and businesses. In the interim before the next election, if the ‘discarded’ ministers continue to give Skerrit their uninhibited support, it proves that these people were part of Cabinet strictly for personal monetary aggrandizement. The present administration is a disaster of epic proportions. It has failed the citizens in every imaginable way. Actions speak louder than words. Skerrit’s actions prove his utter disdain for these ministers and their performance. Ironically, the biggest failure of them all is Skerrit himself. I doubted Mirium and Francine ever had interest in contending (my opinion eh). I think Charles already stated that she wasn’t contending again. All in all good change. I love the women’s touch. Women often prove to be very good politicians, not saying they are perfect, but they usually do well. My personal favourite is Gretta, Dr. King, Lady Daniel and Teacher Bon Bon. I wish them the best of luck, especially the ladies. It would be rather interesting
Anyone who aligns him/her self with Skerrit’s inept, corrupt and rudderless leadership should be frowned on. Does it make much sense to join an organization where astute leadership is nonexistent. Where blatant corruption is a common practice? Where the leader thinks of himself as God-like? Where the captain has piloted the ship of state on a rocky reef? Think of these things.

I can ask what level of leadership has the UWP leader demonstrated? In what capacity? Is he more reactive or proactive? What has he done in his tenure as the leader or even before that? What are the track records of the UWP? We have to learn to make people exercise their democratic right to support whichever political party they want without name-shaming and bullying the people. I will repeat that some of these people will make very good leaders and representatives for their people and I support these people who do. NO MAN ON THIS EARTH IS PERFECT. I CAN LIST THE IMPERFECTIONS OF ALL ON BOTH SIDES. But at the end of the day, I am speaking on these people’s abilities to represent and put a hand (not a mouth, a hand). I am strongly against gender bias. I fully support the promotion of women in any endeavor of work once they are qualified. I do not support putting women in positions who are eminently unqualified for these jobs. Please, can someone inform me the public, as to First Lady, Melissa’s qualifications for political office? Skerrit is up to his usual duplicity. Put up all these women as candidates to curry favour with female electors and males who are sympathetic with the feminist issues. The soon to be ousted PM has damaged the DLP beyond repair. His trickery will not succeed this time around.

Did someone willed Dominica to Dr Dr Skerrit? The delegates from the different constituencies are legitimately tasked with deciding their candidates for elections. The double Doctor is a fully blown totalitarian. Madame First Lady Melissa is a tourist. She only visits Dominica occasionally throughout the year for mere days. I seriously doubt that she can get around Roseau on her own for the lady is serious out of touch with anything Dominican. Thirteen new candidates on the DLP slate for the next election could only mean one thing, the government as presently constructed, is a hot mess. Give Skerrit his pink slip at the next general election.
Truly apart from Grand bay and Petit Savanne, 11 of the 13 seats Skerrit changing candidates in are already gone to the UW and I will not rule out Mahault and Soufriere. But trust me there will be shock effects in Vielle case as well as Portsmouth and Cottage. I am not saying those three seats will be in trouble but trust me there will be shaking and rumbling and shock.

I don’t understand quite a bit of people from the Petite Savanne constituency are saying that they are not to going to vote. Apparently majority of them are against the change that was made in the constituency but they still refuse to vote for UWP, they rather not vote instead.
Doctor Darroux did not say anything that has not been said among you Bagatelle before so do throw blame at anyone here. I would not have voted for Chris either if he was chosen to represent the Petite Savanne Constituency. My vote died with Doc Darroux, sorry for Labour because they will feel it.
