Skerrit formed integral part of talks to help Haiti at CARICOM meeting

Dominica’s Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit has agreed to help build international partnerships in support of efforts to return Haiti to peace and stability, as a necessary precursor for free, fair, and credible elections

Skerrit was among the Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), at their 44th Regular Meeting in The Bahamas that ended on Friday.

CARICOM heads reiterated that the Community must play a leadership role in addressing the deteriorating situation in Haiti, a Member State of the Community, towards which there are moral and political obligations.

Heads also affirmed that decisive action is needed at the earliest opportunity by CARICOM in view of the mounting insecurity and its widespread impact on all facets of Haitian life.

The Heads of Government were joined in part of their discussions by the Right Justin Trudeau, Prime Minister of Canada.

The Heads of Government acknowledged the adoption of the December 21, 2022, political agreement, the National Consensus for an Inclusive Transition and Transparent Elections, launched by Ariel Henry, the Interim Prime Minister of Haiti, but were of the view that it needed to be more inclusive.

In this regard, they agreed to convene an early meeting of stakeholders in Jamaica.

They also agreed to participate in a meeting to be convened in Haiti with Haitian stakeholders, to assist in the development of a plan to restore security and the rule of law.

The Heads of Government noted the various forms of security assistance provided by the Government of Canada and placed emphasis on strengthening the capacity of the Haitian National Police to protect the general population from criminal activities.

The message is not only for Ibo France but for all you negative, unloving, bitter, non-emphatic persons commenting on this issue about sister Island Haiti.

Time to stop this negativism. Verbal negative talks never solved a problem. Teamwork and heartfelt suggestions are what is needed. Come on guys/ladies change the strategies and don’t look so bitter that you are not realizing being obsessed with one man is not doing anything to help any situation. You are only becoming bitter and bitter hurting yourselves. Forget Roosevelt and do something to help somebody today. Even now you calling the man – magi and Janus. Mercy.
Once is Mr. Skerrit who proposes or speaks even if it is necessary, you people are blinded by hatred and will not objectively analyze a situation. Lord open the eyes of those persons, heal their hatred, and let them contribute to society in a tangible manner without looking at others

DNO – please do not delete my comments. I am not disrespectful to…

You still not sober! Rum and that red Kool Aid still clouding your judgement. How much did uncle CM pay you to write this nonsense? Nothing to do with hatred, we want a free and prosperous Dominica, we want our CBI money back and we want fair elections. You clearly are not interested in either of these, just handouts and favours from Uncle you are interested in.

Roosevelt is being tasked with building international partnership- Really? At home, Roosevelt is the Divider-In-Chief. What he cannot destroy he divides.

One of the most corrupt electoral systems presently in the Caribbean is that in Dominica. So when CARICOM Heads can select Roosevelt to assist with engineering free, fair, and credible elections in Haiti, it’s oxymoronic, they can’t be serious. Can Satan cure sins?

The present incumbents in the apex positions of government in CARICOM member states, are the absolute worst crop of rulers. Hence, this once vibrant, peaceful, economically thriving region, the inhabitants have been reduced to paupers, beggars, debtors and criminals.

    LEADERSHIP matters!

      Stupes Ibo.
When will you guys get positive and assist in the well-being of others?
Addressing a difficult situation on our sister island, you come with more negative. Where is your love? Do not like the PM if you like, but let us agree on one consensus, that the Haitian issue should be of concern to us. Haiti was one of the richest islands in the Caribbean but was abused and plundered by superpowers whom you know about. Where is the Empathy?

While you make it seem that we are the worst, which is not true. I have traveled intensely and I know that we are not even close to some people (our Haitian and other countries) where there is abject poverty.

It is awful when persons like yourselves just try to make it seem that our country is so badly off when most of you are abroad even painting a bad picture whilst hitting on the PM. Blame gaming, negativity has never spurred a nation on. Change your thinking and perspective, contributing to nation-building. God Bless…

Dominica is in her trimester of pregnancy with problems. Destitution, unemployment, starvation wages and salaries, rising crimes, bad healthcare, lack of feeder roads for farmers, crumbling infrastructure, mold and rat infested public edifices, these are only the tip of the iceberg.

In truth, Dominica and Haiti are in a tight race to the bottom in the western hemisphere. Roosevelt is only great at self enrichment. He dresses in costly designer suits but his inside is sinful, dark and dirty. Not even gallons of disinfection and a wire brush can clean the indelible black stains in his heart.

These same fools sent RSS to Salisbury right before and election like the people of Salisbury was a threat to national and regional security. After Hurricane maria citizens of Dominica were killed by foreign security apparatus without a public enquiry. Today we have a situation in Haiti where the regions security is at risk from mass migration and the dominance of gangs and criminals in our first free black nation. Where is the RSS. Mia with her base voice looking for international sound bites, skerrit looking to see who he can con, the antiguan hitler mustache clown trying to see which pretty hatian and nigerian he can get and tbe rest of caricom leaders could care less. L C Mathew, I just read a commentary from someone who originally did not support another individual who wanted to do something. In turn, this individual supported the one who did not support him initially in his area of strength.

I say this to say that partnership is something that calls for each person to recognize the strength and importance in order to achieve mutual objectives. Sometimes we are not taught these in our schools etc but godly wisdom, love for one another teach us that we need each other to pool our resources together, One has strength in one area but lacks the necessary strength we do have. Partnerships help us to learn from each other. At the same time, together we can achieve the objectives as you may be good at mechanical work, I at Administration. Why look down on the other when we can be a team and achieve something worthwhile?

I say this to tell you no one is useless as you indicated. Can you be at the Caricom Heads of State meeting? You have very good…

I totally agree with your comment and you are absolutely correct. No one has the answers and we have to use our strength as a unit to vet things done. The nails are just as important as the bricks and galvanize to a strong building. However there is something called credibility and it is based on observations of the actions of an individual. I certainly would not make a thief in charge of guarding money at the bank. I certainly would not ask the devil for advice on my salvation. An individual who has not shown a bias to democracy cannot lecture on creating a democracy. My friend Roosvelt Skeritt has proven to me for over 20 years what his capabilities and ideology is and is a waste of time.
CARICOM need to do self survey and reach out to its human resource get new creative ideas fix the place.

How is he going to accomplish that in Haiti with 11.26 million citizens, but he cannot in Dominica with 71, 808 citizens? Dominica is in a downward spiral under his leadership, yet he wants to help Haiti?! This is pure comedy – this man is an Egomaniac to say the least. His government is contacting business owners to hire Haitians. That’s from reliable sources. So to hell with Dominicans. Skeritt has already figured out where he’ll live when time comes to go. He won’t remain in Dominica – By then Dominica would have been completely drained.

Unlike Dominicans Haitians are revolutionaries and might just be his undoing. It appears to me that there is a culture of collusion among the leaders of the CARICOM, a cess pool of corruption. Why would this man be even considered for this role, with the state of affairs in Dominica? Again, this might bring his incompetence to light. He hates being criticized – I wonder what he’ll do when he’s being criticized on an regional and international level and not only by non-Dominicans? How is he going to get back at his critics? Dominica is the only nation that has not submitted Census reports to ECLAC in over a decade. Reason being, that this Government frowns on transparency, and furthermore submitting such reports will highlight their failure. Here is a snapshot of Dominica: https://statistics.cepal.org/portal/cepalstat/national-profile.html?theme=2&country=dma&lang=en

        Kal
Our own people do not want to work. Get your facts straight. Many prefer to seat by the roadside, complain there is no work. I for sure know what I am talking about because when I cannot find a local to do something for me (I pay) then a Haitian will do it diligently.

I have no problem with Haitians because they work hard for their money.

The message though I will send out do not pay them less, or abuse them but treat them well. The Father is looking down on us as to how we treat those who are less fortunate, whom we can see. We cannot see our father but the bible tells us how can we say we love God when we hate our brother we can see.

Haitians work hard and they contribute to the productivity of our country. They truly send back some of our dollars to their homeland to their families who need it. But did not our people in the 60’s / 70’s migrate – St Thomas, UK, Antigua, Curacoa, Aruba Oil refineries, Guadeloupe, Martinique, St Maarten, St Martin, etc and sent…

How is he going to accomplish that in Haiti with 11.26 million citizens, but he cannot in Dominica with 71, 808 citizens? Well let me tell you, he needs all of us – our support and prayers. Why call the man an Egomnmaniac? Would you like someone to address this as such? In life, we have to focus on others as Jehovah would like us to. This way we can complement each other. Read my comment to L C Matthew and others. Pray for your PM who attends Meetings where we cannot tread. Our suggestions let us try to send it to him. I am sure he will take in some of those suggestions. No man is an island. Stop the negativity and hatred. This is our island man from DA.
Yes, we have to look for others and you know how the Haitians are suffering.
Jehovah sent help in all forms after Hurricane Maria. Lest we forget and be ungrateful. Jehovah is the one we need to thank for the help. One gives thanks for little, we will get more. Let us rally as a country even when the election is over.

My Dear you may want to first remind your PM that we are all Dominicans. Please tell where is the lie in that the PM is an egomaniac. Definition of an Egomaniac: Egomania is a psychiatric term used to describe excessive preoccupation with one’s ego, identity or self and applies the same preoccupation to anyone who follows one’s own ungoverned impulses, is possessed by delusions of personal greatness & grandeur and feels a lack of appreciation. Someone suffering from this extreme egocentric focus is an egomaniac. When the PM takes an egalitarian approach to governing then you can admonish me for saying what I see. This PM has taken Dominica and Dominicans for joke, making a pappy show of parliament, refusing to appoint civil workers who have been on the job for over 10 years, he has a demonstrated lake of empathy, do you recall what happened the night he called election? His egregious abuse of power. Prove to me that Dominica is better off today than 20 years ago.

Additionally I would not be surprised that the PM commissioned you to come on here with this gibberish. In true narcissist fashion he is reading these comments and his ego is bruised so here you are. Calypso is social commentary on the state of affairs in a nation and 90% if not 100% of this years calypso’s were a cry for help or expression of the dissatisfaction with the PM. A man who punishes senior citizens by withholding the $300 stipend because they are not on the streets donning red and paying homage to him. This PM has squandered an entire generation and doesn’t seem to think it necessary to do anything about the drug epidemic plaguing the nation. A PM whose modus operandi is ardent malfeasance. A Government who has not submitted a census report to ECLAC in years thereby denying Dominicans much need assistance, because he abhors transparency and has a lot to hide. Tell my why a nation with less 100K citizens need 20+ ministers. I await your response before I continue.

      February 22, 2023

You are not a Labor Voice. You are only thinking of yourself. Dominica can never be in more trouble than Haiti. The Haitians get work here and are able to sustain their families back home as some of our people previously did when they went to Aruba, Curacoa, St Maarten, St Martin, Antigua, United Kingdom by Geest Ship, Guadeloupe, and sent monies, etc to us in Dominica. Lest we Forget. Pounds and US Dollars were very good to the family. Even now we do have a lot of our people in those same countries and more – France, Switzerland, etc.

Why hate on our less fortunate brothers and sisters in our Caribbean region and not want to help others and think only of us? We must be loving, caring sharing instead of focusing on ourselves especially since we are better off than those Haitians.

You should never say that we are worse than Haiti. We receive so much assistance after Maria and take a good look at our country.

We must be grateful for the help we received and to Jehovah

How many years have we the people been subjected to these empty pronouncement by CARICOM Heads on Haiti? If CARICOM were a mother, she would have been charged by law enforcement with child abandonment.

This story just highlight the fact that CARICOM is a cynical joke on Caribbean people. Who is he going to call on. China, Venezuela, Cuba Russia, and his other dictatorship role models? Is he going to wrangle the passport selling agents? Is he going to suggest building mansions for haitian PM and Presidents and allow ministers to steal from state. Skerrits leadership is not different from what caused haiti to be in current quagmire. The difference is the unsustainable population has never lost thier revolutionary spirit. CARICOM would be better off cutting out a section of Guyana and setting up a new haitian community to ease population in Haiti. With the new found oil money that could be a boost fot construction, goods and services, schools, and economic growth in region. Plus Guyana is underpopulated and would do well with much needed population boost. A well thought of plan would help whole region. Haiti problem require thought outside the box. Skerrit is a waste of time.

Someone has to solicit outside force. A few persons have to be involved in the well thought plan. Maybe you should consider rendering voluntary service to that group of persons. Talking without action is just a waste of time. Yes, the unsustainable population has not lost their revolutionary spirit, and who can blame them? They have been plundered, stolen from, hit by disasters, etc., Even after disasters, they are given vaccines, etc., to continue to kill, steal and destroy not addressing their real needs. They did not agree to the latest mandates of this deception. There were no deaths. The powers tried to start World War III – Vaccinated against unvaccinated but it did not work. It backfired.
