A St Lucian’s perspective

West Indies cricket fan, St Lucian Allan Hypolite thinks the Windies have an uphill battle to try to save the current Test match against Australia.

“The least they could do is try,” he told DNO.

Hypolite has been critical of the Windies batting, suggesting that “there were too many soft dismissals from the top-order batsmen.”

“With just a little application we could have been in a better position.  We allow Australia off the hook from 167 for 8.  Now I think Australia have their hands in their throat”.

The St Lucian is advising that to get out of that “they have to bowl well, take early wickets”.

He also reiterated his concern about the Windies batting.

“I think the inexperience at the top order is what is the West Indies’ basic problem.  Your full four batsmen, between them, have not played 50 Test matches yet – that has to be a concern, the experience is lacking,” he said.

According to the avid cricket fan the Windies “can’t rely on Chanderpaul for everything”.

“Somebody else have to come up and score runs,” he suggested, labeling that the core of West Indies’ problems.

No mr Hypolite, the core of windies problem is not the batting. The poor batting and inexperiece you spoke about is as a result of other major problems we have. Some of our main problems are:
    1. Sammy should not be on the team let a little, captain. That’s a major problem because he is not a leading batsman and neither a leading bowler. He hurts our fast bowling because as of the start of the Aussies 2nd inning, Roach was the only other bowler that played in all three tests. Whereas Roach had already bowled 110 overs, Sammy had only bowled 72 as a much slower bowler. So people like Edwars and Roach don’t get the rest fast bowlers need to go throgh teams.
    2. Coach Gibson has done more destruction to our middle order than he brought answers. I t is because of him, we do not have people like Gayle, Sawan, Nash, Bravo, and Ramdeen playing for windies. Gibson played much of his cricket in England and South Africa should not be brought in to hurt our development. Also, Gibson worked with the England team as a bowling coach, we have to ask ourselves which young fast bowler he has helped on the windies team? Since he became our coach, Roach has gotton slower and less penetrative, we have lost Taylor and Edwards has not been any better. We need to allow people like Jimmy Adams, Jeff Dusion, Phil Simmons who understands our people and politics to coach our team.
    3. Blame our failure on our administrators 4. Our selectors

LOL .. if only you knew anything about people management and cricket for that matter… you would not be spouting that drivel …

The same players you are saying that the coach has impeded are the same ones praising the coach.

Nash? Sarwan ? what were their last tours like ? Gayle, Bravo , arent they at IPL ? Ramdeen was selected for the series but is injured, Taylor unfit, cant even make Jamaica side, Edwards playedlast match with a back injury now he’s out … What do you know about West Indies cricket?

@ As i see it.Players like Sarwan and Co, should never return to West Indies cricket.Best they work with Johnson Charles to fine tune his technique and have him at the top of the order. What about Lindel Simmons? I am not a Gayle fan at all but in his absence we need openers who can do something for us at the top of the order. Barrath,Brathwaite and Powell, are just not there at all.Let’s hope the selectors make the necessary changes for the english tour.
