BUSINESS BYTE: Some inspiration for aspiring young cricketers

Shane gives tipsTuesday 19th March 2013 – Roseau, Dominica: Digicel, Proud Sponsor of the West Indies Cricket Team, continues to lead the way in aspiring young cricketers in Dominica. With much anticipation for the 2nd Test match being held in Dominica, beginning March 20th, Digicel carried out a number of community initiatives and exciting promotions in the days leading up to the match, including their Digicel Cricket Experience.

Two days before the start of the 2nd Test match Digicel gave over 40 young cricketers the training experience of a lifetime. Dominica Cricket Association U15-trainees and Sharon Gregoire’s Cricket Clinic kids gathered at the Botanical Gardens cricket playing field eager and excited. While there they received first hand training and gained invaluable insight into the game they love from West Indies Team members, Captain Darren Sammy, Shane Shillingford, Chris Gayle and Marlon Samuels.

The youngsters underwent a fun-filled, interactive training session, where they were taken through a number of exercises, including warm-ups, batting, bowling and fielding drills, all while receiving a number of helpful tips, tricks and secrets from West Indies players. One of the highlights for local top-batsman Leic Charles was receiving one on one batting tips from popular batsman Chris Gayle.

In their aim to continue to develop cricket in Dominica at the highest level, this initiative by Digicel along with the West Indies players created great enthusiasm for the youngsters as well as their coaches. “The kids were just thrilled to have this opportunity to get one-on-one attention from players at this level, especially one of their own fellow Dominicans. It was truly an invaluable opportunity to learn from them and gain confidence that one day they too will be the stars of cricket of the Caribbean,” said Sales and Marketing Manager of Digicel (Dominica) Limited, Nathalie Walsh.
