ROSEAU, Dominica, Apr 16, CMC – National youth coach Leroy Jno Lewis has cited the lack of proper preparations for the team’s weak showing at the just concluded Windward Islands Under-19 tournament which ended in St. Vincent last week.
Dominica finished second in the two-day format of the tournament and occupied the cellar position in the limited overs version.
Lewis said he was disappointed the team did not play to its full potential.
“I must say that among other factors, we can attribute our performance at this year’s tournament to inadequate preparations,” he said.
“Coming into the tournament, we did not do the kind of preparations that we would have liked. As a result of that, we did not put in the kind of performance that we are capable of.
“This seemed to have been the general view throughout the tournament. Our players needed to work on their strength and conditioning.”
In the two day version, Dominica lost to St. Lucia outright and then surrendered first innings points to St. Vincent in a drawn game. Their only win came against Grenada.
Dominica then lost all three matches played in the limited overs version.
“A few of our players made good starts. Unfortunately, they did not go one to get bigger scores. I thought that we played inconsistent cricket,” the former Windward Islands spinner said.
cricket is concentration and determination dominica cricket team need at least 4 mth before the tpurnament began i am a former national player and cricket is a very hard .you have to stay fit .
These boys have to run the cross country track like we did Leroy. Back then we could bowl or bat all day. Remember in one tornament we batted for two and a half days and bowled out St.Lucia twice in the half day that was left. Lack of fitness will always lead to lack of concentration.
I agree with you #i1 Comment.STAFFY. Well said.
Pactice all year round. Do not wait for the last minute.
Cricket is our game, we have the boys, they got the potentials.
