Cultural Ambassador, Wayne Benjamin has sent his support to two young Dominican athletes as they get set to perform on the world stage at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics.
Thea Lafond will compete in the triple Jump event on Friday and Denrick Luke will run in the 800 metres race on Saturday.
In a letter sent to the athletes, Benjamin wished the athletes nothing but success.
“To Denrick Luke and Thea Lafond, I congratulate you. I want you to know that you have the support of all of us back home in Dominica and we know you all will perform to the best of your abilities. Put God before you for he conquers it all. Continue to fly Dominica’s flag high and God blessings upon the entire Dominica contingent,” Benjamin stated.
He encouraged the “many young athletes who dream of being on the Olympic stage” to wear the Dominica badge proudly on their chest and to “continue working towards their goal and never give up even on the most challenging days.”
Benjamin is of strongly of the view that while Dominica has always produced top athletes, better facilities are needed to enhance and improve training for the youth.
“ I strongly believe we need better facilities, and I can already see a positive change towards sports on the island. Basketball, netball and volleyball courts are now in place at the Windsor Park Sports Stadium, I can say we are moving in the right direction from where I stand. Kudos to those who had the vision,” he said.
Benjamin said in terms of track and field, he is certain that the experts are working vigorously towards having a track in place.
The cultural ambassador said he is trusting the process adding that as the saying goes, “Roam wasn’t built in a day but it was built any way.”
“Rome was not built in a day”, either was it dragged to be used as a tool to manipulate people into political support! it is 20 years without sporting facilities in Roseau and many other communities remain in need. this progress is way too slow and does not serve to facilitate sporting development in Dominica. Benji your efforts seems to be all political and nothing genuine! how many children and generations have been wasted in those 20 years due to lack of sporting facilities? you are a very sad individual bro! country first be patriotic just like your message implies.
Correction to …..Cultural Ambassador Wayne Benjamin supports Dominica’s 2020 Olympic athletes
You mean 2021
ADMIN: These are the 2020 Olympic games that have been postponed to this year due to COVID-19.
…but ‘Roam’ did take 20 years to be built either. But these guys knew what they were doing, but our government hasn’t got an idea.
It is Rome by the way. Benji is too embarrassing. I cringe when I hear Mister. His career if he ever had any, is wayning. Don’t waste your time trying to be important now. These athletes got to where they are without you and KKK help. Give it a rest bro.
Wow, that will make all the difference. 2 golds I expect now. Propaganda, nothing but propaganda you get from these people. I guess at the end of the day they’ve got nothing else to bring to the table.
At least you are calling on the government led by a liar, for better facilities..What you must also do is to openly show your disgust to the same government on how all sporting activities on island have declined.
Basketball
Football
Cricket
Lawn tennis
Netball
Rounders, etc, etc
Lack of facilities is a crying shame. Yet liar Skerrit babbles about how he loves young people. He lies!!!! He loves only himself!!
He is an embarrassment to what leadership should be!
