Curator of Windsor Park Stadium proud as Dominica hosts first Test

The game in progress this morning

As Dominica hosts its first Test today, PRO of the Dominica Cricket Association (DCA) and head curator of the Windsor Park Sports Stadium (WPSS), Richard Letang is particularly proud.

“Every single one of us should be happy; every single one of us should fly our flag high. This is a big day for Dominica, the last stadium in the Caribbean and we’re gonna aim to be number one. A tremendous amount of work has gone into it, from pitch preparation all the way up,” Letang said.

He stated that the match is the result of very hard work and dogged determination.

“This is what you get when you work hard and you’re devoted to what you do. To get this place ready within one month, it was a tremendous amount of work and one can appreciate that. Our workers were pushed, sometimes, beyond their limit and they responded,” he pointed out.

Of the pitch he said, “There’s always some pace, there’s always some bounce and whatever you put in, you get out of it.

$500,000 was spent to prepare the stadium for today’s match and Letang believes it was “money well spent”.

After being sent in to bat, the Windies are 75 for three as rain has delayed play.

Lets wait until the match is over to give a genuine celebration.

When Dominica started its stadium in 1979 it was at least 20 years ahead of any of the OECS countries. This Project was jettisoned by Dame Eugenia Charles in her ‘unlimited wisdom’.
Due to lack of vision and patriotism Dominica is now the last to get test status.

Fuente, are you sure Ossie said crime is on the rise in Dominica.?

J.J.John-Charles, yes he said it. I heard it with my two ears and I immediately emailed the line and length network at 13:04 pm and they read the email to him and he tried to justify it. Call him and ask him.

Congrates to my beloved Dominica on achieving this milestone of hosting Test Cricket.

Now I have some words for some people. 1st is Mr. Sebo: I heard him commentating and he sounds good, but I can remember him on radio when the stadium was just finish building, stating that we can never host test cricket since we don’t have enough pitch on the field. But I guess their mindset is not about country but politics. Today is he that in booth.

Now to Mr. Orsie Lewis, when you can come on regional radio and state that crime is on the rise in Dominica, you should be a shame of yourself and should apologize to the Dominican people. When you look at the region Dominica is the country with the less crime. So far we have no murder for the year. St. Kitts has 14, Antigua has 7, but you never hear them say crime is on the rise. Even Jamaica say they don’t have many crimes. I agree murder is not the only crime, but it helps make up the crime rate and if it is eliminated then, simple maths the rate should be going down. You all must think before you all talk and stop trying to bring down Dominica at every opportunity.

Orsie I use to respect you, but you disappoint me. You really need to apologize.

I should be home for this one. Great for my homeland!! This should spark future Test Matches for Dominica. Our next stadium should have an enclosed roof in Portsmouth. Let’s be the first Caribbean Island to host a cricket match in an indoor stadium.

Well done guys for the great preparation. One great man is missing for this great day in Dominica today, and he is??????? The great, JEFF CHARLES. Let’s name the media center at the windsor park stadium, “The Jeff Charles Media Center”. Who can forget JEFF CHARLES’S sensational commentaries? Not me.

    • ??????????????

I also agree with that suggestion to name the media center after the great Jeff Charles, who played such a big role in the media, bringing us such detailed and captivating cricket commentaries. He is really missing this historic day. I would love to have some taped commentary of Jeff Charles from yester years.

      • DE CARIBBEAN CHANGE,
        July 6, 2011

To add on to this, Jeff always thought that Dominica should always do well at cricket from the backyard level to the village level to the high school level to the club level to the national level.

    • DE CARIBBEAN CHANGE,
      July 6, 2011

Can you recalL?, “SAME TIME, SAME PLACE, TILL WE MEET AGAIN”, Yeah Boy, his theme song for his 6:30 SUNDAY AFTERNOONS CRICKET IN REVIEW ON WIBS IN DOMINICA. Every time I think of those days I shiver and cry. Can we turn back the hands of time, please?

      • July 6, 2011

        @DE CARIBBEAN CHANGE

Ooooooooooh! You are making me cry too! I wish I could give you 50 thumbs up.

I am all the way out of Dominica here, but I sure can remember hearing the commentaries of Jeff Charles at cricket days. I always preferred to stay home and listen, than to go and watch the games.

I haven’t heard Dominica Radio broadcasting for 37 years now, but I do not think there has been an all around broadcaster there like Jeff Charles. God bless him if he is still alive.
