Former DFA president stalls association’s AGM

Dexter Francis 2
Francis at the DFA AGM on Saturday

The annual general general meeting of the Dominica Football Association (DFA) was temporarily thrown into chaos this morning when former DFA president, Dexter Francis, showed up at the meeting without the authority to represent any team.

Francis, in February this year, filed a lawsuit against the DFA claiming that the organization owes him money after he resigned his post in 2008.

According to court documents, filed through his lawyer William “Para” Riviere, Francis alleges that after repeated efforts to get his money from the DFA failed, he took the matter to court.

International Football Federation (FIFA) statutes state that any member who takes takes their local FA to court is automatically suspended.

DNO was informed that the meeting was able to proceed, after the DFA general body voted to have Francis removed from the meeting.

Francis was elected president of the DFA in October 2006 by oral agreement between him and the DFA. His salary was set at $3,707 monthly with two weeks paid vacation.

In his lawsuit he states that on the date of his resignation the DFA owed him arrears of salary for the months of December 2007, January, February and March 2008 plus two weeks vacation.

The former DFA boss is claiming $16,681 in arrears of salary for the months of December 2007, January, February and March 2008 plus $1,853.00 in payment in lieu of two week’s vacation leave.

He is asking the court for damages in the sum of $16,681 and interest thereon at a rate of 5 percent per annum from the date of filing to judgment and 5 percent thereafter.

I agree if football was better without FIFA suspension would be a blessing.

It is irrelevant what the remuneration was (in fact, by international standards it is a pittance). The issue is once a contract has been agreed, it has to be honoured. It is as simple as that.

And they can’t say it was for money and it is the DFA that set the salaries.

All that the president making? No wonder our national players don’t play to win…do the national players get paid too? do they get free health insurance? do they even get incentives for improvement besides a plastic medal and trophy?

I agree the people who should be telling the executive what to do in the interest of players, after they consult with the players, don’t even meet and discuss with the players.

Alas pure greed.. It is not only the salary that they get, it is also the perks that comes with it. Like having the DFA Bus with Ac on and liming all over the place at hours that has nothing to do with football business. Carrying their family all over and dont talk about the travelling. Of course they will fight..Pure greed..

Since you all miss the point I will have to make a sensible comment here. Yes, it is a high salary and for what I don’t know, but that is not the point, nor what it could be used for instead. If someone give you a job with a salary attached it is their duty to live up to it. Your employer cannot just stop paying you because they feel like. If they are not satisfied with the man, give him redundancy package, fire him, but they cannot just stop paying him. Too much hypocrisy. If it was all you, you would want your money. you all know how to strike and beg government for more for even periods you all work for already(back pay) and get paid for already, but don’t want the man to get one penny for his work the last few months? Employers cannot just stop paying people. All that crap need to stop and Dominicans need to start doing things properly. The man salary have you all burning so much, that you all cannot see right from wrong. Typical Dominicans. His salary too big so he shouldn’t get it. Jalousy like hell. The same reason why supervisors don’t want to encourage staff to train, to move up the ladder, to get a good appraisal. I pray that the demons of jealousy will go away from you all. If there is another reason why the man shouldn’t get paid say!!

The DAT will give the hard working teachers a certificate of appreciation when they retire to take to the bank so that they can cash their money.

Teaching is certainly a waste of time if you are concerned about a dignified future! No room to save a penny.

I was in it and since I left several years ago, I am enjoying a much better salary with better working conditions.

    June 23, 2013

Well i have being in the Gully fielding around with local cricket for quite a few years…

Seem i need to shift gears to be DFA Boss..

No wonder why their is some much corruption in High Offices in Dominica…

Policy Makers in Dominica if their are any.
Need to re-visited salaries and labour laws etc.

many work in important places like police force, teaching etc, any never even come come close to that type of salary…

What upset me about Dominica is that their is Nothing to show in the Football in Dominica.

Have our ratings being upgraded, where are the success stories in Dominica’s FIFA Related Organisation in Dominica…

That’s the key we need to get Value for salaries.
Maybe the DFA is a Boy’s Club.

The record will show I lost 50% of my income working for the DFA. I fighting for principle and to expose the culture and mentality that has been bringing us down all those years. It is scary the blatant disrespect shown by the executive to footballers.

    June 22, 2013

If there are no guys to kick balls throughout the games, there wouldn’t no DFA or FIFA. Now one guy is representing DFA to give advice and I guess to represent them overseas is being paid a hefty salary of $3,707.00 a month , plus stypen for traveling overseas, what fraction of that is being paid to the guys kicking the balls
What qualifies me to apply for the post of DFA president? Just enquiring

    • Anonymous
      June 24, 2013

Players worth their salt are worth millions. That was my game plan. The thing is when constructive people get involved the existing leadership culture eliminates them. If you want a real understanding of the present executive try to understand that they came to the 2013 AGM with no agenda and the president’s report has no vision, no reference to issues to solve to try to make our football program more successful. By the way the salary you mention is half what I earned before being full time at the DFA.

What is your point? Teachers are the ones with the sweetest jobs always on holiday. Carnival, Easter, Independence, Month end even if there school is only a few miles from the bank, Don’t talk about summer etc. think about the rest and some of them especially the young ones don’t care two hooks whether people children learn or not.

Ur a joke, Teachers work 24/7.. Utter nonsense..2 wks of that summer is spent at workshops.. Most of the holiday time is spent getting read for school..smh

    • Eastern Parent
      June 24, 2013

Blame their supervisors and the system. Nothing encouraging. Teachers go to work when they want, dress how they want, on cell phones in the class, no examples to students, bad example in the community, drink alcohol with students and the list goes on.

  30. June 22, 2013

why is it that these guys get so much from DFA and the players dont get anything

    • Anonymous
      June 24, 2013

The leaders of teams can ask the questions at the AGM that is if the executive allows them to speak or their leader is sincere enough to consider what concerns the players have. It is said that a certain club has not had an AGM for 10 YEARS.
OH by the way to plan should be to make players be the best they can be so they can be successful and so really have a chance to earn a living at something worthwhile.
