KINGSTOWN, St. Vincent – Dominica captured the U-15 Windward Island Cricket Tournament trophy in a nail-biting, one-wicket victory over St. Vincent & the Grenadines on Tuesday.

Chasing 151 for victory, the Dominicans, unbeaten in the tournament, wobbled to 105 for seven before steady batting from their lower order and a generous number of extras from the Vincentians carried them to their fifth straight victory.

The visitors continue to lead the standings with 10 points and have sewn the title, leaving the hosts to remain winless.

Dominica had never lost more than three wickets in any innings in the tournament, but they were jolted early, slipping to 12 for two.

Their captain Leic Charles got them moving in the right direction with 25, but his exit triggered a slide and the Dominicans were soon 65 for five.

Ndo Joseph scored 32 and Alick Athanaze made 26, putting on 38 for the sixth wicket, to ease the concerns of Dominica, but they were dismissed within three runs of each other, leaving the tail-enders to make a mad scramble for the remaining runs.

The Dominicans varied attack made early inroads into the Vincentian batting after putting the home team into batting.

For a period, Delorn Douglas with the top score of 46, Shane Roberts with 21 and Erwin Williams with 16 kept them at bay.

Douglas and Roberts shared a 38-run, fifth-wicket partnership to pull the Vinceys out of the early trouble, but following their departure, there was limited resistance from the rest of the batting, as they lost their last four wickets for three runs in four overs and were all out for 150 in 44.1 overs.

Daneal finished with 3-34 and brother Kerwin grabbed 3-20 from 10 overs with his off-spin.

I endorse that. The Manager and Coach played a significant part in counseling, training, coaching and providing them with encouragement. If they had lost the match, it would have reflected on them. Therefore, it is fitting and right that they should also be congratulated. How often we forget that. They, who are at the top, deserve to be congratulated. Congratulations to them.
