The election of officers and strategies on the way forward will top the agenda when the Dominica Cricket Umpires Association holds its Annual General Meeting on Tuesday.
Public Relations Officer of the Association, Heston Charles, told Dominica News Online that the meeting is ‘long overdue’ since the last one was held some six years ago.
“Umpires and other stakeholders in cricket have been expressing their concerns as to when the umpires association is going to have its AGM,” he said. “Hence we decided we are going to have it at the Windsor Park Stadium.”
He pointed out that the main reason for not holding an AGM in such a long time has been the absence of an auditor’s report for the association. “As part of an AGM you must have an auditor’s report,” he said. “And that report has not been forthcoming. That has proven to be very tedious over the years and this has protracted the calling of the AGM.”
Charles said the constitution of the association will be given a closer look and the association’s attendance as well as the upcoming West Indies Cricket Umpire’s Convention which is held every two years. The convention will be held this year in Trinidad from June 28 to July 5.
However, he said the election of officers will be the “most anticipated” feature of the AGM and the posts of president, deputy president, treasurer, secretary and PRO will be up for grabs. “We are therefore inviting all umpires to be there for the AGM to take part in this very important exercise,” he said.
Charles noted that the association will also be celebrating 50 years of existence during the AGM.
He also said that the association would like to announce that one of its most experienced umpire, Lennox Abraham, who is also the current president, will be participating in three important ODIs, the West Indies A versus Sri Lanka A.
The AGM will be held from 4:30 pm.
Congratulations to Lennox Abraham. We are looking forward to you being awarded an ODI.
