Dominica has captured silver at the Nanjing Youth Olympics Beach Volleyball Qualifiers in Pigeon Island St Lucia held on the weekend.

Arden Elmes and Yahn Florent left Dominica last Friday with Coach Ray Robinson to vie for a spot in the China Youth Olympics in 2014 where Beach Volleyball will make its debut.

They played against teams from Grenada, St Vincent and host St Lucia.

The pair were the surprise of the tournament being regarded as having the most potential by tournament officials and onlookers.

Although losing the first game to St Vincent, the two bounced back to beat Grenada setting up a much anticipated semi final against rival, St Lucia.

This match was quite exciting as the two teams tried fervently to outclass each other.

However, after tying one game apiece, Elmes and Florent earned their finals spot by defeating their rivals in the final super set.

They put up a formidable fight against St Vincent in the finals but lost to what was described as the flat out better team.

St Vincent will head straight to China next year and Dominica will have to win another qualifier to advance to the Olympics.

The Dominica Amateur Volleyball Association thanked the Dominica Olympic Committee for its tremendous support in getting the young men to the tournament.
