Dominica to meet Canada in FIFA Qualifier

dno sportsDominica has booked a spot for the second round of the FIFA World Cup Qualifiers and will meet Canada on June 6th, 2015 here for the first leg of the competition.

The Dominican team triumphed over the British Virgin Islands (BVI) 2-3 in the first round held on Thursday last week and ended up in a goal less draw on March 29, at the Windsor Park Sports Stadium in the second round.

BVI needed to score at lest three clear goals in order to move to the next round but failed to convert despite getting a few chances.

The capacity crowd at the stadium cheered on the Dominican team on Sunday although the likes of Randolph Peltier, Mitchel Joseph, Julian Wade and others failed to score despite getting numerous opportunities.

In the end, both teams had to settle for a draw.

Captain of the Dominica team, Glenson Price, told reporters that he was happy at the way his team played despite the failure to score.

“We did much better from the first game…we had opportunities but did not capitalize,” he said.

Congrats to the boys for going to the next round but the truth is that where this team is going only the next round. This team has know fire power behind it and as a national team we don’t play enough friendly game to gain experience as a good team. by the way Canada just handed Puerto Rico a 3-0 in Puerto Rico.

The Dominica team hasn’t shown their capability to beat any other team from the O E C S,they should have scored atleast 2 goals against the B V I team so we could have some hope for next game against Canada, I’ll be there in June for this game to cheer for my home team.

Well done gentlemen. I would like some clarification regarding the meeting with Canada on June 6th. The DNO article seems to imply the matching will take place at Windsor Park? However, I was under the impression during the same time frame, Test cricket (WI vs Australia) will be taking place at the Windsor Park?…… I could wrong.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but how on earth does a reported 5000 crowd represent the capacity of a stadium that is reputed to hold over 10,000.

Anyway, congrats Dominica and enjoy the experience, it might just be your turn to cause an upset.
