Fudadin called up for 3rd Digicel Test in Dominica

The West Indies Cricket Board’s Selection Panel has called up left-hander Assad Fudadin to squad for the third Digicel Test against Australia at Windsor Park in Dominica.

He comes in for leg-spinner Devendra Bishoo. Middle-order batsman Kirk Edwards, who was in the squad for the Second Digicel Test, has not recovered from a leg injury and is not available for selection.

Fudadin, a 26-year-old from Guyana, is a steady batsman, who was the second highest run-scorer in the recently-concluded Regional 4 Day competition. He made 576 runs at an average of 48 runs per innings with a top score of 108.

Chairman of the WICB Selection Panel, Clyde Butts said: “Fudadin has been a member of the West Indies A Team for a while now and we have seen signs of development and improvement. This year he batted well in the Regional 4 Day Tournament, and made over 500 runs including two centuries. He was very consistent in the middle-order. He can also bowl medium-pace and that is an asset.”

The West Indies will travel to Dominica on Friday in preparation for the Third Digicel Test, which starts on Monday at 10 am.

I hope the weather will be good for the entire test match…shane name is last that dont mean anything its just the list of names but trust me he will be picked in the final 11…and that’s what matters..OK!!!…Dominica is new to test cricket so the park will be filled but test cricket is going down hill, people want instant result, one day and twenty/20 is taking over. Chris Gayle is missing on this team…our captain cant bat, cant bowl, cant speak properly…we need a new leader….sammy is a one day player. my prediction is Australia will win, we r lacking batting and a quality allrounder…..

I am elated to see nothing but positive vibes emanating out of DA unlike some of these separationists coming from elsewhere, which is indicative of the reasons why the West Indies Federation failed and why we are still so divided.

people excuse me but i might be sounding of a little to sensetive, why is shillingfords name always seem to be last on the list, and i mean number thirteen, what it is,he is the last choice or what,or is he being as saving the best for last.

    • My two cents
      April 20, 2012

Except for Darren Sammy (whose last name begins with S and is the Captain of the team)all of the last names {surnames} are listed in alphabetical order and S happens to be the last one in this instance. I don’t think that it signifies anything negative in the case of Shane.

    • Channel 1
      April 20, 2012

Most likely it is nothing more than alphabetical order of the players surnames. The only exception is the captain who is normally placed first on the list irrespective of the first letter of his surname. Therefore Shillingford’s name begins with S and hence will come down the list and in this case last.

You do realize that Other than the captain they are listed in order of their Surnames?

  15. as I see it
    April 19, 2012

I am not entirely happy with this squard as the batting lacks depth and we do not have enough batters with test centuries for the Da match wher a win is manditory. Apart from the local boy Chanderpaul, the only other players with test 100’s are Bravo and Barath, who only has one. Since we are lacking experience in the opening sport and the game is carded for Dominica, Devon Smith should have been included since he has scored centuries in international level and apart from Barath, he was the only opener with a 100 this year in our domestic tornament. Also, Sawan would be on my team instead of an un proven Fudadin and Ramdin who also has test 100’s should have replaced Carlton who continues to drop important catches and has not been contributing with the bat. You see, if you include three centurians in the middle order that would make us look better and give us a better chance of winnining.

sammy is a superb captain and is doing a far better job than chris gayle….. the team is doing much better than a few years ago,i can see the improvement and i think other cricket lovers can support me on that one.

@JANZzzzzzy – You are certainly correct in your points. The servants of Gayle are the ones who fail to see the plain truth.
